After three years, ANDREW W.K. fans can finally experience the "lost" third album from the party rocker. Previously released in Japan and Korea in 2006, "Close Calls with Brick Walls" will officially become available in the United States on March 23rd, 2010, being released by STEEV MIKE, as a special two album package (the original "Close Calls with Brick Walls" on one disc, and an additional CD called "Mother of Mankind," containing rare and unreleased material).
"Close Calls with Brick Walls" was recorded in multiple sessions throughout 2004 and 2005, using the full Andrew W.K. touring band for the first time. With a full instrumental band, the new album includes exciting new performances, styles, and rhythms. The lyrics are more complex although still very playful, and Andrew’s voice has grown into something much more distinct and expressive.
Since the initial 2006 release of "Close Calls with Brick Walls," Andrew’s career has moved in all sorts of surprising directions. He did a lot of things that were unexpected, yet offered little in the way of explanation for behavior that, on one level, seemed quite natural and, on another, entirely unnatural. Instead of promoting and touring the album in the U.S., he went on a lecture tour as an inspirational new-age motivational speaker. He cut his hair. It grew back. He stepped out of his dirty whites and into a tailored suit to model for gentleman’s magazines like Esquire and V-Man, he produced a Grammy-nominated album for reggae artist, Lee "Scratch" Perry, opened a night club in New York (Santos Party House) and became the host of the Cartoon Network game show, Destroy Build Destroy. He recorded a solo piano album and went on tour with a classical string quartet.
Wisconsin's Downside has posted a new music video online for the song "Voices," which is off their upcoming single. The video clip can be viewed below.
Devin Townsend just completed a North American trek with Between The Buried and Me, Cynic, and Scale The Summit. This was Townsend’s first tour in a number of years and the first in support of his new offering, "Addicted," which debuted at #168 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #2 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart.
Townsend checks in with the following report in regards to the success of the tour and his plans for the remainder of the year. He states: “Tour one in the can! Man, what a heck of an experience. I had gone back into touring with a certain amount of trepidation. 'will I flake? Can I do this without the 'persona? Is this life going to wipe me out?' but as is with most things, you never know until you're 'in it'. After a week of tumultuous shows (click tracks through front of house, monitor problems, broken guitars, etc.) I began to realize that really NOTHING has changed since Ozzfest for me. I'm still the same cheeseball performer, but now my voice is clear and I have the realization that I am honored to do this, and I really missed it. I love playing for people, and to finally represent all the emotions that go into my work, as opposed to just one or two is a dream come true and one that I don't take lightly.
“The audiences were great, supportive and forgiving of the initial technical glitches. The opportunity to connect with folks who have supported me for so long is an incredibly rewarding experience. The tour itself was magnificent with many shows that were sold out or close to it, and for my 'reintroduction' to the touring life, I could not have asked for better people to share the experience with. Christian rockers Stryper have issued the following update about preparing to record a new album:

"I don't want to say too much at this time but I will write an update by next week describing what we're going to do and I can tell you this - it won't be what anyone expects and it will show a completely different side to Stryper that the world has never heard before. Let the controversy begin........... The band is incredibly excited about this project and the label is equally as excited... Great things ahead!"

Blackened death metallers Acheron have officially added two new guitarists, Art Taylor and Eric Stewart, to the band. Taylor came to Acheron from Wehrwolfe and Stewart was in Mangled Faith and Infernal Faith. Both guitarists also previously worked together in a King Diamond/Mercyful Fate tribute band titled Them.
Founder and front man Vincent Crowley said “This band has gone through an evolutionary process since day one. It just gets better and better as time moves on. We were very pleased with the last album The Final Conflict: Last Days of God and knew we really needed two killer guitarists who lived in our general area to work on the next Acheron releases. Art who had already been working with us, introduced me to Eric. Those two together are a force to be reckoned with! We can’t wait to unleash some new studio recordings to the fans.”

“I have decided it is best for me to leave In Flames and to quit the band permanently. The last 17 years have been a blast, and I am proud to have been part of this great journey, with the most talented and amazing people anyone can wish to have the privilege to work with. I’m also the luckiest guy in the world, to have the BEST fans in the world, who have been supporting me during my difficult times. It means the world to me, and I’m determined to fight and defeat my demons once and for all.... and by the help from you guys, I’m on my way. I’m far from done with music, metal, or whatever my direction is taking me, so be sure to hear from me in the future. May the Force be with you!"
In Flames also issued the following statement:
"We are losing a great guitar player and musician, but in order to keep a very dear friend this is probably for the best. If this feels right for Jesper we are behind him 100% on his decision. It is way too early to speculate about the future and possible replacements and things like that. However, we can assure you that In Flames will continue as a band, release albums and tour the world. "Greetings Droogies, Rattleheads and Everyone Around the World! It is great to be back in Megadeth! As you can imagine, it's been quite a week getting back in the saddle with a gazillion things to get a handle on before we hit the road. We are rehearsing for the upcoming 'Rust In Peace' 20th Anniversary tour this week at Vic's Garage, and I must say, the songs are ripping! Dave and I sound like we haven't missed a beat. We have a special style we've created together over the years and it just fell right back into place instantly. I've definitely missed his ferocious guitar playing....no one does it quite like him.
"Chris Broderick is a fantastic player and Shawn Drover lays down a nice pocket that keeps the songs sounding like the records, which makes them a treat to play to. Overall, the studio is a great hang and kind of like a music boot camp with guitars, amps and drums at our disposal so we can always be playing and working on tunes.
"As always, there are gear needs to sort out before a tour, especially with music this demanding and particular. The crew is working very hard to get the details in order now to ensure an amazing show.
"I want to thank you all for your overwhelming support, congratulations and excitement on my return back with the band and I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming shows. Be ready for 'The Punishment Due'!"
