SEVERED CROTCH, which is said to be "one of Iceland's leading metal acts," has posted a new song, "Ecstasy in Death", on the group's MySpace page. This is the second new track that the band has made available following last year's EP "Soul Cremation".
SEVERED CROTCH was formed in Reykjavik four years ago, with most players being under 15 at the time. They soon started playing live and over the years have gained a reputation for their hard-hitting and intense live appearances that have made them a crowd favorite in the local scene. As the band evolved, they shed their traditional death metal roots for a more brutal and technical approach, garnering them a status today as a sheer technical metal beast and certainly one of Iceland's premier metal acts. As a natural choice, the band has opened up for several international acts in Iceland, including AMON AMARTH, SCARVE, URKRAFT, MERCENARY, ROTTING CHRIST, ZERO HOUR, FINNTROLL and, last but certainly not least, CANNIBAL CORPSE, where they played to approximately 600 screaming fans.
eactivated California death metal pioneers POSSESSED have scheduled two dates in Mexico in March:

A Nuclear Blast Records representative has confirmed that Swedish metallers SOILWORK have decided to part ways with guitarist Ola Frenning, citing Ola's resistance of the demands of life on the touring road, as the main reason.
Soilwork singer Björn "Speed" Strid stated: "It was a very difficult decision to make because Ola has been our friend and bandmate for a very long time."
Says Frenning, "After 10 years, seven albums and several world wide tours, we've realized that we have developed in different directions and have a different set of values, profession wise. The disagreements have reached their peak and it has become an untenable situation. The band's solution is that I part ways with them so that I won't be in the way for the future plans of Soilwork. However, since I'm not gonna be on the road (at least for a while), I will now be able to continue with my songwriting and producing at another level." More...

THOR's new album, "Into the Noise" was released on January 9 via Sudden Death Records in association with Fathom Records.
"'Into the Noise' is basically a concept album where the band goes on a journey to the center of the mind, of noise," said THOR. "They come across all these alternate characters and creatures like The Sound King. It's a quest. Like in the song 'Back For More', it's about coming back to rise up again and do battle again. Sometimes you have to retreat when you get overwhelmed or defeated, but then you regain your strength and go back in. So we're heading back 'Into the Noise.'"

Slayer took home the award for Best Metal Performance for their song "Final Six" at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles. The song off their latest album, Christ Illusion beat out tunes from Shadow's Fall, Machine Head, King Diamond and As I Lay Dying. Some of the metal award finalists actually walked the red carpet normally reserved for more mainstream celebrities.
Tom Araya took his place at the podium and thanked long-time producer Rick Rubin and the academy.
"It's...most of all (I'd like to thank) Rick Rubin, who has been with us, been there for us, for the past twenty-three years, twenty-four years, so thank you. My wife, my two kids, Sandra, Errol and Tommy. They're here with me. Of course our manager who has been with us for a good twenty years now. Well, thank you very much. Thank the academy. Thank you."
Araya also talked backstage that perhaps with two Grammys they could be considered unearthed from the underground.
"This is awesome. I guess we're part of the industry now, above ground. None of those tunnel diggings anymore. No, this is our second win actually. It's kind of exciting. We've been fortunate to have been around this long with no radio play. We've gotten support from satellite radio recently, MTV gave us minimal support, but it's all on word of mouth and people liking what we do and passing it on to their friends. We owe a lot of our success to our fans. The industry is great, but the fans are the ones that take the time to look you up to see what you're doing, wait for the record to come out and buy it so..."
Slayer won for "Eyes Of The Insane" last year (2007), and have two other nominations to their credit. More...

Architects frontman Sam Carter has received death threats from irate Bring Me The Horizon fans after uploading a video featuring a staged fight between himself and BMTH vocalist Oli Sykes. The video was filmed at an all-day event in Karlsruhe, Germany and shows Carter "kicking the shit" out of Sykes. The clip - which was uploaded onto YouTube - has been viewed almost 15,000 times.
"We're mates with the guys and were sharing a bus for the whole two week tour!" Carter tells K!. "The fact that people believed it was real is just so ridiculous! We filmed the fight about three times and even added in comedy punch noises and yet kids were still sending us over-the-top hate mail!"
"All-day events can get boring very fast so we conjured up the first idiotic thing we could think of and made it as unbelievable as possible," laughs Sykes. "Sam was getting death threats from kids off MySpace and at the same time getting praised for laying me out! We're sorry if anyone was upset by this although I'm sure most people reading this probably like the thought of me getting a punch in the face!"
The video can be viewed below: More...
Sweden's IMPIOUS check in with the following update:
"Unfortunately the festival in Belgium on April 5th has been cancelled. No further info has been given to us. This means there will be no shows in the Benelux region that weekend. We are very sorry for that. A lot of people, especially from Belgium have been writing to us and letting us know they looked forward to seeing the show. We hope you people will get a new chance after this summer. Or you will simply have to take a short trip to Holland in February/March."
"We also wanna thank all the people who supported us in Osnabrück the other weekend! We didn't expect much, but you proved to be a very cool crowd indeed!!!"
"In other news, the new songs are taking shape and we even have a working title for the album. Are you ready? We're probably gonna call it Numbers. Why? Well, we don't feel like explaining ourselves right now. And besides, it might change 10 times by the time the album is out." More...

The February 2008 issue of Sweden's Close-Up features an interview with SEPULTURA founding members Max and Igor Cavalera, who are currently collaborating in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. An excerpt from the chat follows (quotes taken from the interview's original English-language transcript).
Igor, when did you lose interest in metal and why?
"Actually, by playing," says the drummer. "First too much touring and then losing the passion for playing. Plus the scene… I can't remember one amazing band. To be completely honest with you, I still today don't know one new band, metal band, that I like. Maybe I would listened to it and find some things here and there interesting."
"I went to see LAMB OF GOD in that States and they were alright, but KILLSWITCH ENGAGE opened and it was the gayest show I've ever seen," says Max Cavalera. "I was like, I'm not part of this scene, it's fucking gay.' They were acting like they were U2 and I was like, 'Hmm….' The attitude was so ridiculous. I don't know these guys, they're on my label [Roadrunner] and all, but it was completely disappointing and gay. Like really lame, such a lame band live, everything about the whole attitude. LAMB OF GOD came out and destroyed them and I don't even like LAMB OF GOD that much, but they were so much better coming after KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. I was like, 'If that's what the scene is about, hey fuck it, it ain't got nothing to do with me."
"Actually, I must say something," says Igor. "The last metal album that I bought was JUSTICE. You know JUSTICE?"
"Yeah, it's a dance band."
It's a dance band?
"Their stuff, in my opinion, is so metal. I can put that 'cause they are. For me they are like metal in their own way. Distorted, heavy, but still they make music for the dance floor for people to dance to it. So I have to say… Plus the visual is so metal. For me they're like a revival of BLACK SABBATH in a whole different way. They even use the cross, you know. You should check them out."
In a massive update, IRON MAIDEN's official website reports:
Iron Maiden's year has got off to a roaring start with the February 4th release of the band's long-awaited DVD Live After Death smashing straight into the UK music DVD charts at #1, not only outpacing its nearest competitor by three to one, but outselling the rest of the Top 6 combined!
Internationally it has been a similar story with no.1's in Australia (gold first day), France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland and Germany, where the DVD also spectacularly crashed into the Top 10 Album chart due to such unprecedented high sales! Live After Death also entered the music DVD charts at #2 in Portugal, Norway and Ireland and Top 3 entries are expected from the USA and Canada later this week.
This news comes as Iron Maiden announce the addition of Dutch band WITHIN TEMPTATION to the bill of their previously announced July 5th show at Twickenham Stadium, the first time Iron Maiden have played a stadium gig on home turf as opposed to headlining the major festivals. This will be Maiden's only UK show this year.
Lead singer Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation adds: "Everyone in the band is a big Iron Maiden fan and the previous times we played with them have been an amazing experience. We are very honoured to play with Maiden in such an amazing stadium! It'll definitely be a night to remember!"
With USA's mighty AVENGED SEVENFOLD also appearing as "Special Guests" on the bill the Twickenham show is already proving to be the highlight of British rock fans' 2008 calendars.

Devon is aiming to be the next triple-threat child star.

As widely expected, the reunited STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have been confirmed as the headliners of the Rock on the Range festival, set to take place May 17-18 at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Ohio. The band's participation in the event is expected to be officially announced tomorrow (February 12).
VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash recently confirmed to Billboard.com that VELVET singer Scott Weiland will reunite with his previous band, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, for a short series of shows this summer. Slash did not offer any other details and there has yet to be official word from STONE TEMPLE PILOTS themselves. Weiland broke the news last month at a benefit in Florida, telling the Miami Herald to watch out for an STP reunion in the months ahead. VELVET REVOLVER is touring now in support of last year's "Libertad" album and plans to begin work on its third record this spring.
Although STONE TEMPLE PILOTS broke up in 2002 under less than friendly circumstances, both Weiland and guitarist Dean DeLeo have said that the band members are all on good terms now. Weiland even told The Pulse of Radio he could envision making another STP album. "We were never a band that felt like we needed to lean too hard onto our muscle," he said. "We always felt like we had enough beauty and enough finesse in our music, you know, while we were together, that could carry us into a long career. So for us to make a record at an older age doesn't seem like a stretch, you know, 'cause we were never all about brawn."
The last STP album, "Shangri-La-Dee-Da", came out in 2001. The band's initial success in the early and mid-'90s was derailed in the latter part of the decade by Weiland's well-documented drug problems and arrests.
Weiland, who entered rehab last week at an undisclosed location, has struggled with substance abuse problems for more than a decade, although he has reportedly been clean for nearly four years until now. Questions about his condition flared a few weeks ago when he missed a VELVET REVOLVER performance at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, claiming transportation problems.
New Zealand's DAWN OF AZAZEL have checked in with the following update:
"It is with no small amount of sadness that after three years playing together that we and Martin (Cavanagh) have come to a mutual agreement that it is best for us to part ways at this stage of our carrier. Together have had so many killer times on the road and on the piss, however we all felt that it was best for us to separate at this point. We would like to wish Martin all the best what ever the future holds, brutal hails mate!
Accordingly, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome to the fold Jeremy Suckling, formerly of Wellington's SCORIA. We have been jamming together for just under a month now and things are progressing exceptionally well, trust us you will not be disappointed! Our first performance will be on March 8th in Auckland, and we will be announcing several further dates very shortly, which shall be followed very closely by a taste of our next album. More will be announced very shortly!"

The official Return Of The Pride press release is below:
"All the trademarks of the White Lion classic sound can be found again in the new album which offers a musical variety that covers the entire musical spectrum the band is well know for.
Return Of The Pride kicks off with 'Sangre de Cristo', a thunderous epic that ventures into lyrical and musical territories best heard, than described.'“Battle At Little Big Horn' is the album’s other soaring epic, a musical re-enactment of one of Native America’s most significant historical event’s: Custer’s Last Stand.
Hook laden rockers such as 'Dream', 'Live Your Life' and 'Finally See The Light' maintain a positive musical and lyrical vibe throughout the album, whereas 'Gonna Do It My Way' and 'Let Me Be Me' are the modern day 'Living On The Edge' songs of rebellion."
Though the recording of their full-length Earache debut, Feed The Beast may be over, the work never stops for BONDED BY BLOOD. After a brief rest, the band went right back into the studio over the weekend to record some extra tracks that had developed over the course of their Feed The Beast sessions.
"We made these songs up in the studio while we were over in Sacramento;" recalls Bonded By Blood vocalist, Jose "Aladdin" Barrales. "We'd be sitting around playing video games and all of a sudden, these riffs and licks would come to us."
By the time that the band had grown more comfortable with the surplus of new material they'd quickly created, their time in the studio was already up. However, with persistence, the band got approval to hit the studio a 2nd time just to record the new extra tracks for inclusion elsewhere. "I know that these songs aren't going to be ready for Feed The Beast," says Aladdin, "but the important thing is that we recorded 'em while we still had the energy carrying over from the first session."
How are Bonded By Blood's latest creations turning out, you ask? Let Aladdin give you a brief description. "They're coming up really really good so far...definitely more political than most of our other stuff and sounds like a mix between NUCLEAR ASSAULT and TESTAMENT." "It really makes me want to move, too. If the new stuff makes me want to go skate so it's gotta be good."
