Unearth are set to hit the road for a two week run of dates in support of their upcoming, first-ever, double disc DVD release "Alive from the Apocalypse" starting in Burlington, VT on March 27th. Supporting Unearth on this upcoming string of dates is fellow Massachusetts metalheads Bury Your Dead, Los Angeles' As Blood Runs Black, Madison, Alabama's My Children My Bride, and Texas metalers The Destro.
"We are hitting the road this spring for a short two week run to support the release of our new DVD "Alive from the Apocalypse." At the same time this will allow us to sit with some of the new songs we have been working on for our next record and really let the writing process breathe a bit. We are also playing some cities for the first time in two or more years and a couple others for the very first time in our career. We've put together a package we feel our fans will really dig with Bury Your Dead, As Blood Runs Black, My Children My Bride and The Destro. It's going to be good to get out there to support the DVD, blow off some steam and rage with friends and fans all at the same time" comments Trevor Phipps, vocalist of Unearth.

Norway’s doom metal band Sahg, are set to unveil their latest masterpiece, the simply named “Sahg II,” on March 18 on Regain Records.
While the band’s 2006 debut, “Sahg I,” established the band as a force to be reckoned with in doom metal, “Sahg II” proves the band’s staying power. Taking inspiration from the forefathers of all things heavy – Black Sabbath – Sahg creates its own interpretation of retro, trippy, heavy music, based around memorable, ear-catching riffs.
“This album is definitely a big step forward for us, both musically and technically/sound-wise,” said guitarist/vocalist Olav Iversen. “The songs are more diverse on ‘Sahg II’ because we have allowed ourselves to think more freely and be more receptive to a wider range of inspiration. There are so many directions we want to explore with this band, and this is just what we had time for in this round.”
While the band focused on learning from past mistakes, the recording process itself turned out to be a bit of a challenge for Sahg, with the recording studio being torn to the ground by the landlord after recording just three songs. Undeterred, they used a tiny rehearsal room as a temporary studio while seeking out another location. They soon settled at Audiopilot Studio in their native town of Bergen, Norway, a studio by the ocean, full of vintage guitar amps, effects, tape machines, and a Fender Rhodes piano. It was the perfect summer setting for Sahg to record. And then the technical problems started.
“It really felt like being under some vicious spell,” Iversen said. “But, finally, we landed it, with a bunch of pretty intense recordings in our hands that are very much colored by the strife and frustration we were in. All the hardship turned into something good.” More...
Canadian progressive melodic death metal band FIRST REIGN has signed with independent record label MILKWEED RECORDS. They will be releasing their debut "As the Dead Lead the Dead" shortly. The album features 6 songs, 30+ minutes of metal in the vein of fellow Canadians Into Eternity and metal pioneers Iron Maiden and Megadeth. You can check out some of their latest material on the band's MySpace page.
North Carolina thrashers SANCTITY have issued the following update:
"Yes, the rumors are true, Jared [MacEachern; vocals, rhythm guitar] and Derek [Anderson, bass] have left SANCTITY for personal reasons. Originally we were planning to announce the addition of Brian Stephenson (ex-ANNIHILATOR) on guitar during the SONATA ARCTICA tour, but things have changed in the last two months. Jared just had a beautiful baby girl in December and decided that being a good father was the most important thing and SANCTITY agrees. During this time Derek had a situation at home and came to a mutual decision to leave SANCTITY as well."
"Despite having two members leave, SANCTITY continues instead of flaking out and dropping off a tour we were obligated to. Brian stepped up as our new vocalist and we have hometown friends Zach Jordan and Scott Smith (both in ABOVE THE MEANS) filling in on guitar and bass respectively."
"Perseverance is nothing new to SANCTITY, we've dealt with everything from gear being stolen, being stranded in Wisconsin, bus accidents and now this." More...
PRISTINA, the new band featuring former members of 100 DEMONS, A THOUSAND FALLING SKIES, INVOCATION OF NEHEK and DRY KILL LOGIC, has issued the following update:
"PRISTINA has been locked in the rehearsal space writing a follow-up to our debut 'Boner Jams '07'. The new stuff is just so far beyond anything we've written thus far and whether you like or hate us, the new shit is undeniably fucking kick-ass! We will be looking to record some point this year. Also, the long song (also known as 'The Drought') has not been recorded yet due to scheduling issues between Steve Austin and ourselves. We will be recording it with him when he returns home from tour with TODAY IS THE DAY. We may just do the whole full length with him if time allows, but that is still up in the air."
In other news, PRISTINA is looking for a new bassist and keyboardist/samplist. More information is available on the group's MySpace page.
Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY have issued the following updates:
"The British 'Fiction' tour is over, and we'd like to send our warmest greetings to the crew, audience and the guys in OMNIUM GATHERUM for making it an enjoyable and interesting trip. Photos and videos are beginning to surface on the usual sites, so do some searches to find."
"The last show of the tour, at the Barfly in London, was definitely the most exciting of the lot. Apart from the sold-out venue being packed with fans and friends from all over Europe, the blazing fire a mere two blocks away added a sense of urgency to the gig. Not knowing if the venue would have to be evacuated or — still worse — if we'd all go down like the Titanic orchestra if the flames would reach the nearby gas station, we played as if every note would be the last." Britain's ANATHEMA has issued the following update:
"We have taken all of our recording equipment to a house in England where we have built a studio and begun the first of two records to be released this year. The recording has been going very well."
"This first record is a semi-acoustic recording of many of our most loved older tracks. This will be released on Peaceville Records. The working title is 'Temporary Peace'."
"The songs to be included on 'Temporary Peace' are:
02. Leave No Trace
03. Inner Silence
04. One Last Goodbye
05. Are You There
06. Fragile Dreams
07. A Natural Disaster
08. Temporary Peace
09. Flying" More...
SANCTIFICATION, the Swedish death metal band featuring current/former members of GOD AMONG INSECTS, IN BATTLE and SOULDRAINER, has recruited Tony Laureano (DIMMU BORGIR, ex-NILE, ANGELCORPSE) to lay down the drum tracks for its upcoming CD. The recording sessions will take place this spring at the Abyss Studios in Sweden. A summer/fall 2008 release via Pulverised Records is expected.
Commented the group: "Things are moving along just fine in the camp and we are at the moment waiting for Tony to give us some more solid info on when he has the time to record this album. He is going on tour with DIMMU BORGIR so the recording is being pushed forward a bit but it is OK with us, we still have a few tunes to write so no rush. We will start to reherse the new songs in a week or so and see if there is any need for changes or so." More...

DECREPIT BIRTH have posted the following update:
“Well, as mentioned in the title of the blog we are very disappointed to announce that we had to drop of the BDM tour due to road closures and bad weather in Wyoming. We really want to apologize to everyone who came out, or was going to come out to watch us play. We owe you all big time. We’re planning a bit of a makeup tour for the future so that you guys don’t miss out on our live set. We are very grateful to everyone on this tour package, bands and crew. Everyone treated us so well. We hope people understand that a combination of brutal weather, road closures, and the loss of heat in our piece of shit vehicle were the only reasons we decided to turn around. These elements rendered us into a position where we could not catch up with the rest of the tour. Our last night in Boise, Idaho was so awesome, but we didn’t have a clue that it was our last show of the tour. We want to thank all of our friends and fans for the best support ever, we promise to make this up. The shows we did enjoy on this tour kicked so much ass!!! This tour absolutely changed our lives, and despite the set backs, we had a killer time!”

09. The Beyond Within
Robin Leach reports on his blog "Vegas Luxe Life with Robin Leach" that MÖTLEY CRÜE — Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars — signed a $100-million-plus mega-deal last week to produce three albums and perform three world tours for the giant Live Nation entertainment conglomerate.
"We'll actually have been together for 37 years by the time it comes to an end," Vince told Leach.
Vince, who will go off next month on a solo tour of Canada, said that the first of the three long world tours starts this July. The new contract runs for the next 10 years and includes 169 concert dates on the first global journey.
CRÜE is well into the creation of its new studio album, which will be titled "The Dirt" and based on the band's 2001 memoir of the same name. Bassist Nikki Sixx wrote in a new online update, "10 songs done for the new CRÜE album so far, I'm very proud of the songs. I think we're onto some of the better songs we've had in years...Time will tell, of course. A couple of song titles on the CRÜE album are called 'A Scar On Hollywood Boulevard' and 'The Saints Of Los Angeles'... The chemistry in the studio as we're writing is unbelievable."
Nikki Sixx will be featured on a new Fuse TV program called "Live through This" which documents music stars that have made a comeback. The show will air on Thursday, February 21 at 10 p.m.
The Pulse of Radio reported last month that the rumored tour by Sixx's other band, SIXX: A.M., is starting to take shape. The MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist and his new act will likely hit the road in late April and early May for a run through 10 or 12 major U.S. markets. No word yet on exact dates or venues.
Sixx wrote and recorded the album with longtime friends James Michael and D.J. Ashba and has resisted the idea of turning the project into an actual band. But Sixx told The Pulse of Radio that may all be changing. "It seems that people have been able to really feel that it's a band, they really feel that it's something that they can get behind and they can go, 'You know, I really support these guys in what they're doing,'" he said. "It's interesting 'cause we never planned on playing live together, and then we played live together, and that went off so well that I think we accidentally started a band."
Rumors initially surfaced that SIXX: A.M. would tour in February, although Sixx shot down those reports. The project has only played live once so far, last fall at a Utah radio festival.
The SIXX: A.M. album serves as the "soundtrack" to Sixx's recently published book, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star".
Twenty-five percent of Sixx's royalties from "The Heroin Diaries" goes to Running Wild In The Night, a charity he established in conjunction with Covenant House to rescue homeless and runaway youth from the streets.
Photos and videos are beginning to surface on the usual sites, so do some searches to find.

Not knowing if the venue would have to be evacuated or — still worse — if we'd all go down like the Titanic orchestra if the flames would reach the nearby gas station, we played as if every note would be the last."
In other news, DARK TRANQUILLTY was honored in the "Metal" category at Sweden's annual Manifestgalan awards, which recognizes fantastic music and musicians from independent record labels. DARK TRANQUILLTY received the award for its latest album, "Fiction", which was released in April 2007 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Tue Madsen (HIMSA, THE HAUNTED) and "encompasses all of the elements on which the band built their career: thought-provoking lyrics, shredding guitar work, captivating melodies and sheer brutality," according to a press release.
DARK TRANQUILLITY's "Haven" (2000) and "Projector" (1999) albums were reissued in Japan last month to coincide with the group's Japanese tour. Both albums feature lengthy liner notes by vocalist Mikael Stanne detailing the songwriting and recording process as well as the inner working of the band at the time of creating the songs. In addition, "Projector" features the extra track "Exposure" — previously unreleased in Japan — and "Haven" is graced with "Cornered" as a bonus song.

New Jersey metalcore band Folly has officially announced plans to disband. Formed in 1997, the group released two full-lengths with Triple Crown Records. Prior to breaking up, Folly will play several final shows - most likely in the NJ-NY-CT region - in addition to recording some new tracks to be released online. A lengthy statement regarding the group's decision can be found here, though this excerpt is fairly illustrative:
"After a little more that a decade, we've decided to formally resign from the music industry. Whereas obviously we would like to have an impossibly absurd reason or scenario causing the end of this run, say 'Anthony moving to Lebanon to competitively knit table cloths' or 'Arben pursuing his lust for bartering lion pelts and hyena hides.' We simply just want to move on with our lives for a variety of personal reasons. It's supposedly a very cliché reason for a band to break up, to go these separate ways. Yet, it is as definitive and undesigning as the message in said Journey song: Someday love will find us, break these chains that bind us! Sadly, this band is no longer our raison d'être. We have other avenues to venture... other pages to turn."

Gama Bomb issue the following studio update:
"How do, thrash farmers,"
"The G-Max lads are now one week into the recording of our Earache debut Citizen Brain at Grindstone Studios in deepest, darkest Suffolk with Scott "Cliffhanger 2" Atkins, and what a week it's been. Three days of tracking drums saw Paul nail every song down and left him literally letting off some steam (a la Commando's Captain Bennett) as he sweated off the pounds in the live room. We're currently editing the resulting tracks and preparing to lay down rhythm guitars. Evil ones." More...
Another new DARK FORTRESS song entitled "No Longer Human" has been posted on the MySpace page of the group's drummer, Seraph. The track "Edge of Night" is still available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. Both cuts come off the German black metal outfit's fifth full-length album, "Eidolon", which will be released via Century Media Records on the following dates:
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy: February 22
UK, France, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Rest Of Europe: February 25
Spain, Portugal: February 26
Finland, Sweden, Hungary: February 29
According to a press release, "Eidolon" is the band's first effort with new vocalist Morean, who is also responsible for the intricate lyrical concept.
In its nine chapters the album describes the initiation, dehumanization and unearthly rebirth of a transcending soul by mirror magic and astral projection.
An "Eidolon" is a Greek concept of an astral double of a living being or a "mirror." The concept describes a magic mirror ritual as while a person is in a trance, the surface of the mirror is used as a gate to enter a new dimension. Three songs each form the album's three chapters:
"Eidolon" track listing (50:17):
The first three songs describe the calling of beings from the other dimension, seen from three different angles:
01. The Silver Gate (6:50)
02. Cohorror (5:37)
03. Baphomet (6:24) *
The second part is the initiation, when the astral soul is dehumanized and torn away from his earthly ties.
04. The Unflesh (5:08)
05. Analepsy (6:01)
06. Edge of Night (3:57)
The third part is the rebirth „on the other side of the mirror“.
07. No Longer Human (5:36)
08. Catacrusis (4:34)
09. Antiversum (7:22)
* Featuring guest vocals by Tom Gabriel Fischer (CELTIC FROST)
A 13-minute video clip containing footage from the LORDI press conference for the band's new horror film, "Dark Floors", the official world premiere of the movie and the LORDI concert that followed can be viewed below.
"Dark Floors" premiered at Oulu Energia Areena in Finland on February 6. The home of Kärpät, a Finnish national hockey league team, hosted an audience of 5,000 people who also saw LORDI's show. With its image as the film-friendly town up north, Oulu is the perfect choice for the premiere: "Dark Floors" was shot there last summer.
The Finnish national premiere for the film took place this past Friday (February 8).
Solar Films produced "Dark Floors" in cooperation with the Northern Film and Media Foundation POEM and the North Finland Film Commission (NFFC).
The film — set in an American hospital with a British cast, including Ronald Pickup — has a conventional, spine-curling horror plot. It follows the story of a small group of people including an autistic girl - played by 12-year-old Briton Skye Bennett — inexplicably trapped in a suddenly deserted hospital. More...

Whitesnake are releasing their new album, Good To Be Bad, through SPV / Steamhammer in Germany on April 18th, rest of Europe on April 21st and North America on April 22nd.
The band's first studio album in a decade features 11 new Whitesnake songs which are guaranteed to take their place alongside their multi-million selling catalogue.
Legendary front man, David Coverdale, says, “The new album contains all the elements I enjoy about Whitesnake, and more. I can hear moments that take me back to the bluesy, early years of the band all the way through the band's musical history to fully embrace the more electric aspects of where we are now, as a band. I'm thrilled with it and can hardly wait to unleash it on an unsuspecting public! If this is indeed the last Whitesnake studio record then I'm happy to finish like this. It was a labour of love making this record...a joy... and I'm still enjoying listening to it. Can't be bad!"
The 11 new songs, written by Coverdale and guitarist Doug Aldrich (who also co-produced the album with Coverdale & Michael McIntyre) provide a good balance of eight rocking tracks and three ballads. Coverdale feels it's the first 'real' Whitesnake album in almost 20 years, commenting “It's very butch. Very muscular..."
Tracks: 'Call On Me', 'Can You Hear The Wind Blow', 'Best Years', 'All I Want All I Need', 'Good To Be Bad', 'All For Love', 'Summer Rain', 'Lay Down Your Love', 'A Fool In Love', 'Got What You Need', 'Til The End Of Time'.
With their blend of hard rock, soul, blues, and balladry plus a healthy dose of priapic posturing and good time fun, Whitesnake brings a welcome, positive energy to the current musical climate.
Additionally, Whitesnake will be taking to the road with Def Leppard, playing a series of co-headline shows across the UK, major festivals and headliner shows in summer of 2008. The internationally renowned, multi-platinum band will be featuring songs from David Coverdale’s colourful career including the hits (for the choir to join in with) and new material from Good To Be Bad.
This is an opportunity to experience the ultimate line-up and celebrate 30 years of Whitesnake, who are:- Doug Aldrich on guitar; Reb Beach on guitar; Timothy Drury on keyboards; Uriah Duffy on bass; Chris Frazier on drums and of course, the inimitable David Coverdale on vocals.
“I can’t wait to get back on stage – after being in the studio for most of 2007 I am most definitely ready to let off some steam. The front row should definitely be prepared!” says Coverdale.
