Struck By Lightning Signs To Translation Loss

Translation Loss Records has announced the addition of Columbus, Ohio’s STRUCK BY LIGHTNING to their roster.

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, STRUCK BY LIGHTNING features Gregory Lahm (previously of Mouth Of The Architect) on vocals and guitars, accompanying by Travis Kline, Mike Leach and John Peters. Encompassing the aggression and punk slathering of His Hero Is Gone and Disfear with the progressive rock acrobatics of Mastodon and Big Business, STRUCK BY LIGHTNING create ferocious and hairsplitting aggression, according to the label.

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING will be recording their Translation Loss debut with highly acclaimed producer and engineer Chris Common at Red Room Recording (These Arms Are Snakes, Mouth Of The Architect, Book of Black Earth) in May of 2009 and will see a late summer release.

You can check out some demo tracks from their upcoming Translation Loss debut on the band's MySpace page.

Warbringer Finishes New Album

Warbringer has issued the following update about finishing the recording of their new album:

"WARBRINGER became road warriors over the course of the past year. The band spent the entire year on the road, hitting nearly every location you could imagine, in support of their Century Media debut, War Without End. Now the band has completed work on their sophomore effort and are on the road with Soilwork, Darkane and Swallow The Sun.

"WARBRINGER spent their break from the road locked inside Sharkbite Studios working with axe man/producer extraordinaire Gary Holt (Exodus) on the new album, which will be mixed by Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, Suffocation) and is scheduled for release on May 19, 2009. Fans can expect to hear several new tunes from the record live as WARBRINGER plays with Soilwork and then on the band’s upcoming stint with Kreator and Exodus.....

"John Laux comments: “We are proud to announce that we have finished all the tracking for our next album! We want to thank all of our fans for supporting our music and for all the outspoken interest in our next record. Without a doubt this is the heaviest WARBRINGER production to date. Expect nothing less than some brutal, punishing, faster than hell metal with that classy Old-School touch. More...

Destruction Returns To Sodom Show

German thrash metal legends Destruction will once again be taking part in the tribute show honouring the late Sodom drummer Chris "Witchhunter" Dudek. The show will be headlined by Sodom and include performances from Destruction, Tankard, Assassin, Darkness, Holy Moses, Paradox, The Protectors, Blackfire and Wortmord. A message from Destruction mainman Schmier reads as follows:

"If this phone call would have happened earlier, all this painful confusion would have never taken place. Sodom and Destruction have both been on tour lately, I guess that did lead to a couple of misunderstandings that are all solved now.

"There was never any intention to argue about this event in any case! Tom and myself have a friendship since 25 years. The lack of communication via third parties did lead to some turbulent misinterpreting.

"I would like to point out, that we have moved our North American anniversary tour to play at this event. It was always very important to us. We have confirmed our participation already in late 2008. As some may remember, Chris toured with us before on the Eternal Devastation tour in 1986 when our drummer Tommy left the band. Since that day we were real mates! More...

Helix Recording AC/DC Cover Song

Canadian hard rockers Helix have issued the following update about their original line-up reuniting to record an AC/DC cover song:

"I’ve been getting a lot of mail commenting on the band (from the No Rest for the Wicked line-up) is getting back together to record “IT’S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANNA ROCK AND ROLL”. This week there were good vibes all ‘round.

"Fritz (Greg Hinz) came in to lay down the drum tracks on Sunday. His common law wife Brenda Sherred, who is also one of our closest friends, came along to spend the day with Lynda back at Planet Helix. They brought along the new addition to their family-Tanner-a puppy Labrador Retriever-to keep Harmony occupied as well.

"The tracks went quickly and well. Fritz was in his glory and you could tell he was having a blast. Gord and Aaron were also all smiles at the prospect of recording someone they grew up as kids listening to. After the session Fritz and I headed back to Planet Helix for supper and to catch the first half of the Super bowl game. More...

Machine Head Members Enter Therapy

Machine Head's frontman Robb Flynn has posted a lengthy update online. The post reads as follows: "Drank my first sip of the Sizzurp the other night, I gotta say man, I was lovin' the Sizzurp. If you're not a wigger like me, and don't know what Sizzurp is, Wikipedia that shit, the explanation is hysterical. New wine I'm digging too, The Prisoner by a winery called Orin Swift out of Napa ($35)... good shit! Loving Chopin Polish Potato vodka too, kinda hard to find, but rockin'!

"Hope everyone had a cool holidays and New Year's. The fam and I had a good one ourselves. Had my wife's 16 family members and my Mom for some Christmas dinner at our house... ham, scalloped potatoes, some green beans, and lots of egg nog and XO Cognac... mmmm, man... sprinkle a little pumpkin spice on that shit... fuckin' great!

"We're out with METALLICA right now in America (that's right bitches! Main support to METALL-I-FUCKIN'-CA in America!) and we're super stoked about it! Most of those shows have been pretty sweet, so far Washington D.C. was hands-down the rowdiest crowd, with Milwaukee and Newark #2 a close second. They usually let all the Met-Club people in early and they have been treating us really well; very receptive to what we're doing, and it was cool starting to get to see and know some of them after a while. Tons of them went to multiple shows and manned the same spot on the barrier night after night. The stage is cool too. Having played in the corner of a room for over half of my life, it took some getting used to playing in-the-round, or, 'in-the-rectangle' if you wanna get technical. First night in L.A. was a disaster, but after that we got it down. We definitely command it now, and we *have* to command it. If we don't, it's so easy to just get lost up on that giant stage, and lose the attention of an audience who, for the most part, have never even heard of us. THE SWORD dudes are cool, had a couple good hang nights with them. Kind of a weird vibe on the tour as a whole though, but stage crew and Metalli-camp is totally fuckin' cool. More...

Rimfrost Signs To Season Of Mist Records

Swedish black metal act Rimfrost has signed a record deal with Season Of Mist Records. Speaking on the signing, the band states: "We have been playing for six years and since our first demo-recording we have always had our eyes on Season Of Mist. Finally we've got the chance to work with this heavy-weight label in the black metal scene. We signed our first contract three years ago with a German underground label, but since being signed there confronted us with completely unforeseen negative consequences, we decided to sign off due to serious disagreements. Season of Mist gives us fucking great vibrations now: we look forward to work with an elite, professional label that we can grow strong with. Let the cooperation between Rimfrost and Season Of Mist begin!"

Rimfrost will release their new album later this year. The album title will be revealed nearer the time of release.

Thy Will Be Done Completes New Album

Thy Will Be Done has completed the recording of their next album, titled "In Ancient Of Days" and tentatively slated for spring release via Stillborn Records. Like its predecessor, the effort was produced, engineered, and mixed by Zeuss (Shadows Fall) at Planet Z Recording in Hadley, MA with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed serving as executive producer. The band elaborates:

"Collectively we feel that we've just written music that we'd like to hear ourselves and we think some others will dig it; we were just eager to add fresh material and ideas to our repertoire. One thing we hope is (that) no matter where the listener is; wherever they are on their path of life — (that) there's going to be so many layers to the lyrics and music for everyone to gain something from. When making music, that's the main purpose. We're hoping that people will turn on that music and get inspiration.

"...And as promised, this album will be the most radio-friendly, cookie-cutter, chock full o' the same clean crooning chorus in every song, that from the first note you'll be sure to scream, 'SELL OUTS!' Afterall, we've decided to merge Rapcore and Funk Polka to make our sound. It proves to be the 'Easy Listening Favorite of 2009.' Oh yeah, and we've got 9 breakdowns in every song and we've managed to add 14 'Bass Drops' to each one of those tunes!

"In all honesty, I will tell you this: Long Live The Riff! We'll have more information and will be posting new material soon. Be well and thanks again to everyone who has been supporting us and to all our new friends and family."
