Israel hasn't quite become known for producing black metal bands at this point, so Nature's Elements is something of an anamoly in the worldwide metal community. The group contributed two songs to a split album titled "New Shape/Ipos" earlier this year with fellow Israeli band Undivine Essence. Nature's Elements drummer Phenex filled me in on the history of the band, the death of former vocalist Ipos, and the recording of the split tracks. More...
Norway's Leprous has checked in from Munich with the following road report:
"We’re back in Germany! The village is called Munich, and the stage is named Backstage (?). Napalm Death has their tour bus parked alongside ours. It turns out we’re playing the same venue the same night. Luckily there’s more than one concert hall in this Backstage venue.
"Before the soundcheck we went downtown to check out their largest musical instruments store. It was huge! Øystein and TorO tried out leftie guitars, Einar bought some new instrument cables, Halvor drooled over some analog synths and invested in 10 shiny new picks while Tobias tried out every cymbal in the huge drum department, and ended up buying quite a few. Tobias’ cymbal adventure ate up our possible soundcheck time, so we had no soundcheck this night. But we had new cymbals, picks and cables! More...

Regarding the material for the band forthcoming CD, Omnium Gatherum previously said in a statement, “This time we really put a lot of time and effort on the pre-production of the stuff. It’s going to be an epic and massive attack of ever-flowing stream of Finnish ‘melodic death metal,’ straight from the souls of black.”

Germany, Austria, Switzerland: February 4, 2011
Sweden, Finland, Hungary: February 9, 2011
Rest Of Europe: February 7, 2011

Cradle of Filth has issued the following statement about the band canceling a show in Ecuador:
"Everyone involved with the band, and especially the band themselves are deeply distressed over the cancellation of our show in Equador this Friday. This is the second time we have had to pull out of a concert in Equador (the last cancellation being due to airport closure as we were circling the runway!). Unfortunately this time has been due to several reasons, including severe weather conditions stranding half the band's crew, deep 'contractual' problems, plus flight-booking f**k-ups.
"It is a regrettable situation to be in, but unfortunately an impossible one at this particular time to rectify. Our sincere apologies go out to all the fans we have disappointed by this very well thought out decision, the band feeling even worse about it as we are all stuck in cold, redundant limbo for two days.
"As for the rest of our South American tour, all other shows are definitely on, the first being on the twelfth at the Teatro Metropol, in Bogotá, Colombia. This very Sunday. We can't wait, though once again, I 'd like to apologise to all our loyal, disappointed fans in Equador. We are so pissed off that this has had to happen.
"All the very best, A deeply annoyed Dani Filth."
Amalgama has issued the following statement about the passing of Dimebag Darrel and John Lennon:
"If you happen to take a look at a newspaper or watch a bit of news today you'll see the coverage of the anniversary of the death of John Lennon who was gunned down outside his apartment 30 years ago. December 8th is a day that many people can remember exactly where they were when they heard John Lennon had been killed, be it driving home from work or even watching Monday Night Football when it was announced over the air. As we all pause to remember someone who left such an indelible impact on the music world we here in Amalgama also want to remember another musician who was taken from the world too early: Dimebag Darrell.
"Obviously in the metal community he is well known as the guitarist for Pantera as well as Damageplan, his band he formed with brother Vinne Paul following Pantera's unraveling. Perhaps Dimebag didn't touch as many people as Lennon did but you can't take away the impact he has had on the music world and all the aspiring guitar players he influenced. Last night during rehearsal, Ray came in wearing his 'Vulgar Display of Power' shirt with the brutal black & white image of a man getting punched in the face plastered across the front.
"It kicked off a conversation between us on the most difficult Pantera songs to play and reflecting on how insanely awesome of a shredder Dime was. Not many players with such raw talent come through this world and Dimebag was one of them. So, knock back a few drinks tonight in his memory (and then maybe go play 'Imagine' by John Lennon, just to be fair)."
Insision has issued the following update about leaving Dental Records and joining the Sevared Records roster:
“Sevared Records is one of the fastest growing Death Metal labels in the world and it feels good to find a label that stays true to and value classic brutal Death Metal. Also a big f*** off to goes to Dental Records, that wasted four years of our lives, time and energy..."
Sevared Records also commented: “Sevared Records is very honored to sign the mighty INSISION!! I personally have been a huge fan of this incredible band since the 1st MCD. I'm extremely excited to release the new MCD and the following full length CD, I know these Brutal Death Metal veterans will crush every fan of Brutal Death Metal skulls in! And finally get the recognition of Brutality they deserve! And as they say 'The Dead Live On' In 2011!"
The band has issued the following update about recording new material: More...
Believer has just finished tracking its second release for Metal Blade Records. The recording will be mixed by Kevin Gutierrez at Assembly Line Studios and produced by Trauma Team Productions. Vocalist Kurt Bachman commented:
"We decided to bring back some of the orchestral feel of Dimensions by utilizing more layered guitars, keys and melody with different vocal arrangements. There is still the 'Believer' sound, but the musical progression continues for us."
Keyboardist Jeff King also commented: "We revamped our writing and recording process so that everyone could work at their peak times. We also spent a lot of time finding the right combinations of gear to achieve the sounds we wanted. Each Believer album has had its own sound that distinguishes it from the preceding album, and this project is no different in that respect. You still have the core elements that make it recognizable as Believer, but the guitar tone is heavier, the songs are tighter and musically it seems more refined."

Rob Halford, vocalist of heavy metal legends Judas Priest, commented on the forthcoming retirement of Judas Priest after nearly 40 years. Halford commented by saying:
"Well, they do say that all good things come to an end and that's probably the case in this case. But I'm delighted that, of course, the Halford [solo project] band is gonna be storming forward in the metal future, and that's gotta be good news.
"I've been doing this now for close to 40 years and it's a real thrill to think that I'm part of the roots of it all. Not just myself — many, many other people have been responsible for putting the whole heavy metal scene onto the map. It's as strong now as it's ever been."
Canada's Wdnfra has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's bassist:
"You heard me right everyone, we are now looking for a new bassist. We could get into the details but we won't, it's just time for a change. We wish Jo Good luck in his future project(s) and we had a good time in the past with him filling the bass duty. So yeah! while we are searching for our new guy, we are writing new songs and ideas and are trying to find new ways to promote and manage the band with the Cd Sales and all! Here's basically what we're looking for with the new guy:
-Needs to be talented
-Have a Passport (or able to) with no criminal case so we can tour anytime.
-Have a passion for Heavy Metal
-Knows how to play Super Smash Bros Melee. (we're not kidding!)
-Has to speak french so the chemistry is perfect (English is a plus)
-Having is own professional gear is a plus but we can work on that.
-Being able to practice 3-4 times a week and help us pay our local (Per Month place 24/7)
-The will and eager to just go out there and destroy!
"We are really hoping to find our new guy soon so we can move forward with this as we're planning an European tour for next summer and the eventual recording of a second album. More...

Nailboard Records has issued the following statement about signing Estonian metal act Ceremonial Perfection:
"Nailboard Records is proud to announce the January 11th, 2011 release of the debut album of the up-and-coming Estonian melodic death metal band Ceremonial Perfection. To support the release, the band will embark upon a 15-day tour of Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
"Ceremonial Perfection is an emergent five-piece from Tallinn, Estonia, formed in late 2007. The band´s ascent is impressive, especially considering the members´ average age of below 20. In a mere three years they have played extensively in Estonia, while also managing a scattering of performances abroad, including a successful two-and-a-half-week tour of Russia, sharing stages with Finland´s massively renowned Norther. The melodic foundation of the band´s music is suffused in heavy riffs and atmospheric keys, thus making the concordant essence of their songs embraceable both by headbangers as well as those wholly unfamiliar with metal. "Andy Classen will prepare everything technically tomorrow for the final drum edits and the build-up of the guitar equipment when Phil arrives on Friday. That's all for now. A lot more interesting parts (mainly guitars and vocals) are still to wait in the wings. Take care everybody. Cheers for now 'til tomorrow."

Irish act For Ruin has checked in with the following update about recent and upcoming activity:
"This week has been dogged by shitty weather in this part of the world and it took our drummer Pete three attempts/cancellations to fly to Ireland from Europe to rehearse and play this week - but hopefully the bad luck is over now... We have 3 new songs more or less complete and will most likely be performing a brand new track 'Mere Mortals' for the 1st time anywhere this coming Friday at the Cork show if all goes well.
"Our plans for the early part of 2011 so far are pretty well laid out. We will be making an announcement regarding Last Light in the very near future (good news!); we'd hoped to be in the position to announce something this week but a few things have delayed us so, again, watch this space!
"We have some ideas for the new songs that will hopefully come to fruition, as well as a few surprises if all goes well. The new material so far is a continuation of the Last Light style with some variety in terms of pace in one of the songs (probably the final song on the next album) and the speed and heaviness that featured throughout Last Light will be maintained in all others. Last Light featured a couple of 'older' songs but everything on the next record will be brand new, nothing re-visited from older times. More...

Dimebag Darrell would have celebrated his 44th birthday this past August, no doubt surrounded by friends and family, the love of his life Rita Haney, and his big brother Vinnie.
Black tooth grins would have been downed, and more than a few fireworks probably would have been shot up into the sky and at unsuspecting revelers. It would have been a true celebration of life, because, as the man himself often said, that’s the kind of fun Dime had. But six years ago to the day that lifelong celebration, along with the lives of four other members of the global metal family, was cut tragically short. By now we all know the story, there’s no sense in reliving the grisly details. Dime wouldn’t want us to dwell on the way he died; he would want us to focus on the way he lived.
To a person, everyone who came into contact with Dimebag Darrell as he made his way around the world several times over playing the music he loved was made to feel like an equal, like a friend. With Dime, there were no walls between the fans and the musicians, between crew and band. There was only kinship and a common love of music and having the best time humanly possible. Even those of us who never met the man felt like we knew him from watching the Pantera home videos and seeing him exude one hundred percent uninhibited enthusiasm on stage each and every night and completely unfiltered, boyish joy off stage when he partied with his brothers by blood and by metal, the hardest drinking band in the business, Pantera.
