As previously announced, U.S. doom legends Saint Vitus recently completed the recording of the band's eighth studio album, and the first since 1995.
This forthcoming opus, marking the return of seminal vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich, is entitled "Lillie: F-65" and has been tentatively scheduled for a March 23rd (27th in North America), 2012 release via Season of Mist Records.
Saint Vitus has also just been confirmed for the next edition of the Sweden Rock Festival, which will take place in Sölvesborg, Sweden on June 6th - 9th, 2012.
WJCU 88.7 FM and Auburn Records will host a food drive for the Cleveland Foodbank and Friends of the Cleveland Kennel with a benefit concert on Friday, December 23rd at The Saw Concert Club (formerly the Jigsaw) in Parma, Ohio. Parma's own Eternal Legacy and Soulles will headline a 7-band billing. The free admission benefit runs from 6:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.
Fans attending the third annual Iron Ingo Cleveland Metal Holiday Food Drive are encouraged to bring canned or non-perishable foods to help those in need this holiday season. A donation will be made from the Cleveland Metal community to the Cleveland Foodbank and Friends of the Cleveland Kennel (dogs and cats). The Saw, a popular Cleveland-area music club formerly known as the Jigsaw, had been on hiatus in booking original heavy metal bands since 2009 but recently reopened its doors on December 3rd with a new name and a return to a heavy metal format.
"I am absolutely thrilled to play at the old Jigsaw again," adds Eternal Legacy guitarist Shaun Vanek. "This club had become our home in previous years and we were all very saddened when it closed. We always packed this house full with pure diehard metal heads and I just want to say welcome back to the party. Expect one hell of a return. This show is going to be off the hook."
"We are delighted to once again be doing a show in our defacto hometown of Parma, Ohio," says Soulless frontman Jim Lippucci. "It's been several years since we've been able to thrash in Parma and we are confident that any DNA evidence has long since deteriorated, and that any outstanding warrants are long expired. The fact that the gig is a benefit for not one, but two great causes makes it even sweeter and has nothing to do with confidential settlements or court ordered community service. We encourage, no, we command all ye faithful Cleveland area metalheads to come forth with your canned goods and cash donations! Help a family down on their luck, or even a hungry pup or feline. Support the Cleveland Food Bank and Friends of the Cleveland Kennel by crushing skulls...with kindness!" More...

PETA has conducted an interview with Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow about her veganism, and the organization has issued the following statement:
"If you've ever wondered what represents the arch enemy to Angela Gossow, you can find out in the Arch Enemy lead vocalist's exclusive interview with peta2, PETA's youth division, in which the Swedish death-metal singer reveals her foremost foe: factory farming. In the recent interview, Gossow—a lifelong vegetarian—opens up about why she decided to dump eggs and dairy products from her diet and go vegan for good. And from now through January 2, visitors to peta2.com can enter to win an Arch Enemy prize pack containing a copy of Khaos Legions, the group's latest studio album; a Century Media compilation CD; and an Arch Enemy poster and stickers.
"Besides the indisputable health benefits of ditching meat and other unhealthy animal products from their diets, vegans have a smaller carbon footprint than their meat-eating counterparts— and each vegan saves the lives of more than 100 animals every year.
"Gossow joins an ever-growing list of musicians—including The Agonist's Alissa White-Gluz, OTEP, Dillinger Escape Plan, GWAR, and Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia—who have teamed up with peta2 to challenge archaic, cruel attitudes about animals." More...
Estonian act Herald has released the band's first music video for “Amanita,” taken off the "Gaia" album. Herald commented on the clip:
"The video as well as the song is telling a story about the primal force of a mushroom. The video does not feature the classical stereotypes of a heavy metal music video (chains, leather, fire, rockin band etc.), but it represents an independent surrealistic short movie instead, which leaves plenty of room for imagination. Main part of the video consists of mass scenes where everyday rough-edged metal-heads had to wear a black suit with a white shirt, in short - become boring white-collars. Alongside with self-finding protagonist, the most important character in the plot is the mystic mutant-mushroom which is the initiator to the forthcoming lunacy.
"The directors of the video are Adeele Sepp and Marika Palm. Director of photography is Madis Reimund. Video was produced by Sven Varkel. Music is written by Egert Vandel and Tauno Nava and lyrics are written by Egert Vandel."
Aussie technical death metal outfit Psycroptic has revealed the cover art for the band’s fifth studio album, "The Inherited Repression," which will hit stores on February 7th in North America and February 10th in Europe on Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented Psycroptic guitarist, Joe Haley, “The Inherited Repression is far and away my favorite Psycroptic album thus far - all of us in the band think this. It’s the age-old cliché from bands when they talk about their current album as being the best of their career, blah, blah, but I have to say it because it’s true. We wouldn’t think there is a point of going on if we couldn’t outdo each album prior. We are certainly not playing music for anything else than the love of creating it and performing it.
“The Inherited Repression is quite different from anything we have done in terms of song writing and structure, and we spent a lot longer writing and demoing the songs before we recorded it, which you can tell. It’s a very dynamic album - the fast elements faster, the slow elements slower, and a lot of light and dark binding it together. It’s a very catchy album as well - you can tap your foot, bang your head or anything else you want. Basically it has a lot of groove on it from start to finish.”
The artwork can be viewed below, and the track listing is as follows:
1. Carriers of the Plague
2. Forward to Submission
4. The Throne of Kings
5. Unmasking the Traitors
6. Become the Cult
7. From Scribe to Ashes
9. The Sleepers Have Awoken More...

Ufomammut, Northern Italy’s sorcerers of obliterating doom, have completed the recordings for their sixth full-length, and first as part of the Neurot Recordings family. A press release from the band reads as follows:
"Oro is the title for Ufomammut’s latest work, divided into ten massive movements overall which is now confirmed to be delivered in two separate pieces during the coming year. The first chapter, Opus Primum, will see arrival in April, and the second, Opus Alter, in September. The vinyl versions of both chapters will be handled directly by Ufomammut’s own label Supernatural Cat Records, who were responsible for the release of all of the band’s previous material. This is the third album in a row the band recorded with Lorenzo Stecconi.
"As with all previous Ufomammut albums, the concepts behind Oro are expansive and multi-faceted, mutating the Italian palindrome which translates to 'gold' with the Latin translation of 'I prey.' Oro explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the World surrounding us. Oro is the alchemical process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into Gold. Although Oro’s two chapters will be released months apart from each other, they must be considered as a single track in which the musical themes and the sounds show up and hide, mutating and evolving, progressively and increasingly stratifying culminating in the crushing final movement. Oro is like an alchemic laboratory in which substances are flowing, dividing and blending themselves in ten increments from the alembics and stills, culminating into the creation of Gold. The band are also in the process of crafting a full video/visual version of Oro which will accompany the audio. More...

The official press release on the matter reads as follows:
“LOS ANGELES – The North American metal scene just got a lot heavier. The launch of Rock The Nation America celebrates a groundbreaking booking agency partnership between Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono, his agent and Canadian metal promoter Stephan Mellul, and Century Media Records.
"Rock The Nation America will be focused on bringing the best names in heavy metal to North American audiences, while maintaining a razor-sharp focus on emerging acts and artist development. Iacono will capitalize on his decade as frontman of the Canadian death metal band Kataklysm as he heads the agency’s artist relations efforts, while Mellul will build on his history as one of Canada’s premier metal promoters and agents.
"Based out of the same Los Angeles offices that the Century Media and Nuclear Blast record labels call home, the pair will be supported by Century Media for all marketing and administrative needs.
“'I spent the last 15 years touring and learning what being on the road is all about, and my partner, Stephan Mellul, has been booking shows for 18 years – together, we decided to bring something different to the industry,' says Iacono. 'We decided to create an agency that will help new artists develop, as well as preserve and grow the careers of established bands. I’m a soldier on the field, I understand the touring life, I still live it… and the fans deserve unselfish packages and lineups that are worth paying the ticket price. We thank Europe’s premier agency, Rock The Nation, for joining forces.'
“'Rock The Nation going overseas was always a big wish of RTN Europe,' says Stefan Hattinger, CEO of RTN Group Europe. 'We found experienced and hard-working people in Maurizio and Steph who know the market and what the artists need, thus the right people to run Rock The Nation America.'
