Following some contemplation he decided to make the call to rejoin after hearing some of the rehearsal footage posted on the Society 1 Youtube page and was excited about the new members and direction of the material."
Vocalist Lord Zane further comments: "I've toured the world with Dirt. We've shared the stage hundreds of times. He was at my right hand side when we played the Download Festival suspended in front of 80,000 people. Sharing those experiences with someone creates a strong bond and friendship. It's good to have him back and am looking forward to sharing the stage one again."
"In the first rehearsal it felt like coming home except now playing with new drummer Pete Pace (London After Midnight) is like jamming with Neil Peart on crack," said Karloff.

Today, Decibel Magazine jams the jagged opening track from Columbia, South Carolina's Burnt Books’ self-titled debut album, set for CD and digital release via At A Loss Recordings worldwide on January 29th, with a vinyl version to follow later in the year.
Check out the song "Selfish Friend" at this location. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Burnt Books formed in October of 2011 born from musicians from a vast array of previous and current local bands. Guitarist Matt Thompson and drummer Troy Thames came from both the 'smashist revolutionaries' Guyana Punch Line and experimental punkers Thank God (Thompson as bassist in both). Troy also participated in ex-Antischism/Initial State killers .fuckingcom. Bassist Joey Parker and guitarist Chuck Sligh helped provide the heavy riffage and crazy time signatures of Tunguska. Finally, Zoe Lollis had previously been performing solo shows utilizing only her banjo and voice.
"On their first album, Burnt Books’ noisy hardcore/punk comes to life with Lollis' growls, wails, and mocking tones coalescing with the high-paced and artistically-reconfigured punk/noise rock constructed of angular riff madness, with interludes of simply Zoe's clean vocals and banjo, all help expand the band’s whole approach. The nine-track album was recorded at The Jam Room with Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Dark Castle), was mastered by Colling Jordan (YOB, Twilight), and bears cover art by Sam Ford (Black Cobra’s Invernal, etc.)." Italian heavy metal pioneers Astaroth have announced the release of their first ever full-length album, entitled "The End of Silence," through She Wolf Records on December 21st.
Produced by the band's bassist Saverio "Shining" Principini and engineered by Michael Tacci in Los Angeles, "The End of Silence" marks the band's first new output since the 1985 cult classic "The Long Loud Silence" mini-LP, and reunites original members Principini, guitarist Max Cipicchia and drummer Jan D'Amore, with American born newcomer Ace Alexander handling vocal duties in place of original frontman Bob Cattani.
"This is the album we were supposed to make after 'The Long Loud Silence' but didn't get the chance to for a myriad of reasons," states Principini. "All of the songs we've recorded for 'The End of Silence' were originally written in the mid 80's as we prepared for our second record. Luckily, we found a bunch of old murky live tapes which helped reignite our collective memories. Even though it's now a quarter century later and everything's changed so much, we feel that these recordings very much embody the original Astaroth spirit. This has been a total labor of love for all of us and we can't wait to share this with our old fans as well as hopefully make a few new ones along the way."
Excerpts of all the songs can be heard at the band's official website here. The track listing is as follows:
01. My Sleeping Beauty
03. Nero's Fire
04. Apocalypse in the Living Room

Rhode Island's Dreamer is thrilled to officially announce the release of debut album "Turn It Up," which can be heard through the player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Turn It Up features ten tracks filled with razor-sharp hooks, radio friendly melodies and a heavy metal wallop that can satisfy the most demanding headbanger. Inspired by bands ranging from the classic hard rock bands (Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Queen) to modern hardcore and metal (Black Label Society, Pantera, Senses Fail), Dreamer captures the sound of classic metal and infuses it with a style and sound all their own. Renowned for their high energy live shows at venues across New England, the band has opened for bands such as All That Remains, Burn Halo, Candlebox, Firewind, Hawthorne Heights, Hollywood Undead, Lynch Mob, Saliva and Saving Abel. Dreamer are booking shows to support their album and are on a mission to deliver Turn It Up to audiences and radio stations across the U.S.A.
"Dreamer began in the fall of 2010 when both the founding members of Last One Standing, Christian and Nathan Shields, decided that a major change was needed to their music project. The brothers began writing music and producing a sound that was heavier than their previous songs. The tracks on Turn It Up include the first song on the album 'Way It Feels,' a hard rock anthem to a 350 Chevy, 'Sex Rocks,' a tune about looking for girls and taking them home, the inspirational hard rock ballad, 'Live For Today,' and Dreamer's anthem, 'Turn It Up.'" "Dry Lung Rhetoric," the debut album from Reading metal band Schemata Theory has been made available to stream for free via YouTube. Check out the album through the playlist below or over at the band's YouTube page here.
“One of the goals of releasing the album like this,” vocalist Myles Dyer explains, “is to demonstrate a new way of marketing music in these ever-changing digital times. Many bands are constantly criticizing piracy, and how it is killing off the industry. My belief is that it is only killing off those not willing to adapt."
To celebrate the release the band has made available 100 limited edition bundles to buy via the Schemata website. This includes a signed album, limited edition t-shirt, signed insert with a limited number of 1-100, as well as exclusive stickers, badges and plectrums. The album is now available to purchase digitally on Audiosocket, Amazon and iTunes, and can also be streamed for free on Spotify.
“The album's themes communicate acknowledgement of a sleeping world needing to wake up,” explains psychology graduate Myles. “With so much evidently in crisis on this planet, the question that must be asked is 'How much longer can we go on turning a blind eye?'” More...
Marazene producer, multi-instrumentalist, programmer and vocalist DieTrich Thrall has launched a new electro-metal studio project, Beauty In The Suffering. The full statement posted on the website follows:
Beauty In The Suffering is an evolving concept I came up with years ago that best described a sense of optimism during some bright spots of an otherwise massive struggle against overwhelming odds. Music I have been writing and expressing over the last several years has been uniquely intimate in reflecting those struggles and I am very excited about putting out some fresh ideas that represent the here and now.
Beauty In The Suffering deals with universal themes of love and loss, defeat and resolve, and struggle and triumph. Everybody has moments where the road looks impossible to pass. But somehow little by little we manage through our own inner strength and the purposeful placement of fate, chance, and karma. We emerge wiser and with a deeper understanding of ourselves and of our place in the world and the beauty we glean from the suffering we have endured can never be denied.
This is a journey I accepted long ago. I wear the scars of my personal triumph over my struggles with pride and I stand ready to face new challenges. And, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, this is a new beginning. I thank you all for standing by my side during some very difficult years of active-inactivity. The future is wide open and full of nothing but payoff.
DieTrich (pronounced Dee-Trick) is best known for his co-founding and co-visionary role in the industrial-metal band Marazene (later called Marazene Machine).
Touche Amore has teamed up with LA Weekly to post a new tour diary online covering the band's recent time in Indonesia. Excerpts from the tour blog follows:
November 17th Jakarta, Indonesia: Our tour manager arrives 30 minutes late [to leave for] the airport. We rush through security and make it on to our flight with only a minute to spare. Some people say coffee and a healthy breakfast is the quickest way to get your body awake in the morning. I think having to run with equipment and bags around your neck through a foreign airport does the job even better.
The venue tonight is called Rossi Music. It reminds me of a punk squat you might play in Germany or Eastern Europe. Before we played, I had to run to the bathroom to take a quick piss. What I encountered was very confusing to my American eyes...a hole in the ground and next to it a bucket of water with a scoop. Thankfully this wasn't another kind of emergency.
By the time it is our turn to play, we can tell the equipment has had quite the toll taken on it. The PA speakers are hardly functioning and the guitar heads are giving about half their ability. With a room full of kids, we push through it with excitement. Hearing so many voices so far from home know our words was one of the most exciting moments of our band's history.
November 18th, 2012 Jogjakarta, Indonesia: I cannot put into words how terrifying [the twelve-hour drive to Jogjakarta] was. The way people drive consists of...speeding as fast as you can, then slamming on the breaks, and then veering into oncoming traffic to go around trucks and other vehicles. There are no seat belts in this van. Everyone flew out of their chairs multiple times and we were scared for our lives quite a lot.More...

Allston, MA metal unit Caricature has teamed up with Heavy Blog is Heavy to unleash a brand new track entitled "Saviors II," taken from the band's forthcoming debut full-length album, "The Sound of One Man's World Collapsing." Check out the song in the player below or through Heavy Blog is Heavy here.
Caricature mastermind, Joseph Spiller, had the following to say about the meaning behind the song and how it differs a little bit from the rest of the album:
"Juxtaposed with the other songs on the record which are introverted and autobiographical, 'Saviors II' is about a former friend. The person used to be one of the most stand up, hard-working people you could ever meet. Amazingly talented, but somewhere along the way this individual chose drugs and an intense obsession with a certain psychedelic drug addled writer over life, career, family and friends. Deep in it all to the point where they did nothing else other than sit around their parents house, spent their money, didn't work and then somehow turned a nose up to the rest of the world and believed to be on a 'higher moral plane' than everyone else. 'Saviors II' is a song about someone being a disappointment, not so much to others, but to themselves."
Caricature recently wrapped up the recording process for "The Sound of One Man's World Collapsing" at Universal Noise Storage in Newburyport, MA with Greg Macklin (Ordinance/Jeff Loomis) and Brett Boland handling mixing duties. The album also features a guest solo from Greg. A release date has not yet been set. More...
It was Friday, November 30th in Montreal, and my butt was killing me. Let me explain.
I'd arrived a little while ago at Katacombes, a little cavern of a club with a corner stage partially in the round. Headlining the evening was Derelict, an increasingly popular technical death metal outfit carving quite a name for itself across Canada. After tracking down frontman Eric Burnet, we escaped the noisy chatter - and the impending racket of the opening act - by ducking down a flight of stairs to a basement alcove outside the restrooms.
In the shadowy corner, we claimed a precarious perch atop two beer kegs while Eric brought me up to speed. We discussed all things Derelict, including this year's sophomore album "Perpetuation;" (reviewed here) the overall death metal genre and beyond; Eric's personal techniques and goals as a vocalist and lyricist; the downloading controversy; and more. Man The Machetes will release the new album “Idiokrati” on January 29th in Europe, Janauary 18th in Norway, and January 25th in G/A through Indie Recordings.
The new single ”Mageplask” is now available via the YouTube player below. Indie Recordings also commented:
"The album presents music that balances delicately between an uncompromising, but accessible sound. The pace is high from the beginning to the very end, yet the listener is bombarded with melodies and catchy guitar riffs in a soundscape that is borderline rock and metal. If you add screaming vocals, a thumping, but melodic bass and intense drums, you are closing in on a good description of Man the Machetes' debut album 'Idiokrati.'" More...

Finnish symphonic metal act Stratovarius announced that the forthcoming new LP will be entitled "Nemesis." The first single will be "Unbreakable" and a preview clip can be heard below. The album will come as a standard 11 track edition along with a special edition with two additional bonus track and the album is set to drop on February 22, 2013 via earMusic.
"Nemesis" was produced and mixed by guitarist Matias Kupiainen and mastered by Mika Jussila from Finnvox studios, who has a long history with the band. To shorten the wait period for the album, the single for "Unbreakable" will be released as a limited edition EP on January 25th, 2013. It will feature five songs: the new album leading track "Unbreakable" and a selection of four songs from previous albums, remastered by Mika Jussila. Songs like "Falling Star" (taken from "Polaris") and "Freedom" (taken from "Infinite") show a different, catchy side of Stratovarius and guide the way to the new masterpiece "Nemesis".
Matias Kupiainen commented on the new song: "'Unbreakable' is a very important song to me and the lyrics have a lot of personal meaning. Sometimes you can snap out of your day to day fog and see what is important. And when you are in that special moment, when you have that special feeling, you are invincible, unbreakable; you should really stop and enjoy the feeling. Even, if the whole world falls apart tomorrow."
Vocalist Timo Kotipelto added: "This album has a darker and more modern sound. We, as a band, have gone through a lot and we have matured as songwriters. The making of this album was easier than before, because we could give it as much time as needed."
The track list for the "Unbreakable" EP is as follows:
1. Unbreakable (taken from the brand new studio album "Nemesis")
2. Falling Star (taken from "Polaris")
3. The Game Never Ends (taken from "Elysium")
4. Freedom (taken from "Infinite")
5. Why Are We Here (taken from "Intermission")
(Songs 2-5 remastered by Mika Jussila in 2012.)
