New Zealand wretched doom/sludge band Open Tomb is streaming its new two-song album "Slower than Thou" over on bandcamp. The album is also available as a limited release on Zero Style records. The Hamilton band released its first single, "Open Tomb," earlier in the year and also has out a two-song split release with fellow New Zealand sludge band Meth Drinker. You can stream the split release over on the same bandcamp link.
Avant-garde black metal act Germ has uploaded the first in a new series of ambient songs online titled "Ghost Tree Part 1."
Give the song a listen through the player below. Germ mastermind Tim Yatras also commented on the track:
"I have just uploaded a 20 minute ambient piece to Soundcloud. This is the first in a series of 3 instrumental pieces which will be uploaded over the next few weeks, and all available for free download. Of course this is not for everyone, so feel free to take it or leave it!"
Australian power metal act Dragonsclaw has now officially completed work on the band's new album "Judgement Day." The artwork and track listing can be viewed below, and the band also recently commented on guest appearances for the release:
"David Reece (Accept/Bangalore Choir) has delivered an amazing guest vocal on the track 'Watching My Every Move.' Jack Starr plays a killer solo on the track 'Battle Cry' which is our tribute to RIOT and Mark Reale's musical legacy, and Natalie Whitton of the Cursing Stone contributes choir vocals on the track 'Fear.' Our thanks also to Rhino (Manowar/Angels Of Babylon) for tracking Jack's solo and to Corey Wyer (Cursing Stone) for assisting Natalie in the studio recording her vocals. India's Chaoskampf has posted footage online of the band performing "Supernova" live, which can be viewed below. Chaoskampf also commented:

U.K. death metal act Basement Torture Killings has released the original version of the 2011 debut album "The Second Cumming" online via Bandcamp. You can stream the release below or download on a pay-what-you-want basis at this location. The band also commented:
"With the option for you to pick your own price. If you want it for free then its yours, if you want to make a donation then that would be welcomed and will be used to continue the bands murderous rampage.
"The Second Cumming received rave reviews on its initial release in the UK, with Terrorizer labelling the release 'An impressive display of gore soaked death metal' Metal Hammer simply stated 'A death metal perversity in tweed and knitted cardigans.' New Dehli based blackened death metal act Nazhorn has posted a new track online titled "Demise of the Heartless God," which can be viewed below. The band also commented:
"With this offering, hope we made up for the absence, and nothing describes the current state of our world better than: 'We reign in chaos, because your fear is there no more, or was your love too weak, or this is how you treat your abandoned child.'"

After recently announcing a new drummer had joined the band's ranks, Acherontas has now checked in with the following announcement about a new album:
"We are Proud to Announce that Our Coven from now belongs in the Brotherhood of W.T.C (World Terror Committee) Records. A major & cult Label that respects the art of Black Metal and stands for the true meaning of what this unique art represents. But most important a label that was built from true individuals and activists in the scene to support a philosophy and not a business.
"The new Opus of Acherontas Coven Baptized In Blood and Fire and is called 'Amenti (Catacomb's Chants & Oneiric Manifestations).' It's almost One Hour of Meditative Spiritual Art To Raise the Potential of Many to Cross and For few to Rise. The album will be out on Summer solstice of 2013

Portugal's Heavenwood recently held a 20th anniversary celebration show on December 28th, 2012. Several fan-filmed video clips from the event have made their way online, showing the band performing tracks from across its discography.

After previously announcing guest appearances by drummer Lefteris Moros (Innerwish) and bassist Vangelis Yalamas (Fragile Vastness), Greek act Sorrows Path has now posted the following message online about bringing on Snowy Shaw to appear on the band's new album:
"We are really glad and proud to announce that Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (king Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Memento Mori, Notre Dame, Dream Evil, Therion, Dimmu Borgir, and more) will be the special guest vocalist for the new Sorrows Path album!
"Our doom idol Snowy will sing a duet with our singer Angelos for a song titled 'Everything Can Change.' Doom rules eternally…"
Further details on the upcoming album release will be announced as they are made available.
Latvian doom band Frailty has posted an official video for the track "The Cemetery of Colossus," which comes from the band's 2012 album "Melpomene." The video was filmed using live footage from a gig at the Melna Piektdiena club in Riga back in May. Four of the nine songs from "Melpomene" are streaming on YouTube as well.
Legendary Dutch metal band Picture posted a new music video for the re-worked classic track "Eternal Dark." The song originally was released as the title track to the band's 1983 release, but was re-worked in 2011 and released as a bonus track on the band's latest LP "Warhorse," which was issued in February 2012. The new version "Eternal Dark MMXI" features the new twin guitar duo of Mike Ferguson and Len Ruygrok (Vengeance).

More groovy (SEE: melodic) versus glam (SEE: dramatic), Lillian Axe managed to recruit a loyal following without an abundance of commercial success. Often regarded as an underrated and unknown gem, the group continues to perform and record in obscurity. Their look (big hair and tight leather) grouped this band in with the glam bands of the eighties (and early nineties); however, the music of Lillian Axe still holds up, a major difference between Lillian Axe and other bands during this time. They are sort of the “indie” Edward Norton of metal that is if Edward Norton’s career had never blown up (at least for a few years), and if Norton was from The Big Easy. More...
