Frontman Lee Dorrian recently revealed in an interview some details about the group's swansong album, "The Last Spire," which will mark the final chapter for Cathedral in 2012. Some excerpts follow below:
“We’re planning to begin recording in April. We want it out next year, because as of next year the band will be no more. We’re working on material at the moment. When we get back from Australia we’ll have a good, solid month to fine-tune the songs. We’ll hopefully have it released in September/October of 2012. I’m going to see our artist Dave Patchett this weekend - he does all our album covers – and just sit with him and go through all of the concepts for the album cover. Musically, I would say 'The Guessing Game' was more of a summarisation of everything we had done. 'The Last Spire' is more like our final stamp really. I think it’ll be a lot heavier and more doom-influenced than anything else we’ve done in recent years. But there will also be keyboards, and hopefully it’ll be a really progressive doom record. I don’t want to give away too much, but it’ll probably be a little heavier. We’ll be much more hands-on with the production. This is our last one, so we want to go out with a bang and pretty much do it ourselves because we can."

Crossover band Birth A.D. will enter Pyramid Sound on January 3rd to record the full-length follow up to their "Stillbirth of a Nation" EP. Titled "I Blame You," the album will be engineered and produced by Alex Perialas (SOD, Testament, Overkill, Carnivore and Nuclear Assault). Explains vocalist/bassist Jeff Tandy:
"We chose Alex not only because he presided over many releases that allowed Birth A.D. to exist, but also he is still a commando producer of the highest order. He is very hands-on, and sometimes his enthusiasm exceeds our own. With his direction the new album will be amazing no matter what! The album will be recorded, mixed and mastered in the space of 12 days. 'I Blame You' will also feature a guest appearance by Rotting Christ front man Saki Tolis. Saki has already been a strong supporter of the band. The fact that he offered to appear on the new album is a huge honor. He knows his metal, so we couldn't ask for a better endorsement."
Birth A.D. is currently seeking label support. Below is Birth A.D.'s first official video for the track "Parasites Die." More...
Fourteen. That is the staggering number of metal and hard rock musicians who left us this calendar year. Fourteen. It is without question that the year 2011 was a cruel one for the metal community, taking from the world some exceptionally talented people whom many had long lives left to live. Most, if not all, of us never knew the likes of Cory Smoot, Gary Moore or Seth Putnam in person but we lived through them vicariously through the legacies left by their music. When you are a fan of a band for an extended period of time you come to feel as if you know the people behind the drum kits and holding the guitars, they become your friend who's always there to comfort you regardless if you've never spoken to them, shaken their hand or have met face-to-face. When one of them is tragically taken from this earth we can't help but feel sorrow and pain, as if one of our own family members has passed away. Unfortunately, the pain is ever more intense when you have had the pleasure to come to know one of these truly gifted individuals. More...

Some song titles include 'Thy Kingdom Come,' 'Harrowing of Hell' and 'The Sacrifice.' As you already know the material is in mixing stage and will enter post-production by the end of January. Already the cover art is being prepared that will be a surprise but details on this will be announced later.
"What's more important is that 'IHS' will include a whole bunch of exceptional guest vocalists: Cezar (CHRIST AGONY, MOON), Shadow (BLACK ALTAR) and Virian (LILLA VENEDA). As you already know the drums were recorded by Icanraz (DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS, ex-ABUSED MAJESTY) and few leads were done by Quazarre (DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS, ASGAARD) who also engineered the process of guitars and bass recording.
"Their contribution to the album made it more diverse and complex. Even now, without the mix and mastering done, the tracks sound simply excellent! But to know this you'll have to wait just a little while. Hopefully the album will be out around Walpurgisnacht 2012... but I can't give you any more info about it right now.

The Very End has checked in with the following recap of 2011 and announcement about the band's upcoming activity:
"2011 is almost over – time for a quick recap. And quite a lot of things happened around The Very End.
"First and foremost we released 'Mercy & Misery' in January, and your reactions told us that many of you have gladly let our fallen-between-the-cracks German Metal kick their asses. Thank your for that! Our first official video clip for 'A Hole In The Sun' (shot by Filmefahrer Pictures) was premiered in January as well, and with over 150,000 views up to now we can call it a great success!
"Furthermore we proudly presented our new drummer Daniel Zeman (also in Enemy Of The Sun), who made his live debut in January, too. Yet 2011 was also the year of stand-in musicians for The Very End, who fortunately made us forget about carnal or mental malfunctions of one or another band member. Hence, a big thanx goes out to Alex Bartkowski (Guerrilla), Dennis Baron (Final Depravity), Martin Below (Guerrilla) and Roland Smigerski.
"Apart from those fine guys we´d also like to thank our label Steamhammer/SPV and our roadcrew Sascha, Anja, Birte & Lolli and all the other helping hands for keepin´ the faith!
"Some sticky, sweaty live shows later – we shook the stages with e.g. Forbidden, Morgoth and Sacred Reich, the year is almost over again already and we´re writing this recap. But we definitely ain´t gonna leave you without a short preview of what´s to come in 2012: the songwriting for our third album is going full throttle, some great live shows are booked and we promise that even if the Maya will be proved right and 2012 will hold the very end of it all – we will at least provide you with the perfect soundtrack for it!
"On that note – happy new year, see you in 2012 and bang that head that doesn´t bang!"

"Howdy and happy holidays everyone! We hope you have well survived the holiday hams, turkeys and woolly socks, and you're ready for what we have to offer for you next year!
We'll start up our year by going to Russia for three shows! Our Russian mini-tour stops at Saint Petersburg (January 13th), Moscow (January 14th and Tver (January 15th)! Harashoo!
Our January looks pretty much fully booked after this trip too when we hit the The Baltic Sea in the form of Spinefeast. After that our buddies SANCTIMONY from Latvia join us for couple of gigs in Finland (Lahti and Helsinki) and the exciting month will be crowned on January 31st at The Circus in Helsinki, where we warm up the stage for ARCH ENEMY!
Unfortunately, half of the shows we have to play without our low tune maister Antti Seroff who recently underwent a shoulder operation. We're hoping to have him back on the saddle as soon as possible and wish the best of recovery. During Seriff's sick leave the bass will be handled by Pyry Hanski who has been the webmaster of our homesite for few years now and you might have catched him in live action in the ranks of BEFORE THE DAWN.
Check out the whole schedule of our upcoming shows at our website.
See ya on the road!!!"
