We've been tracking down metal fans and bands everywhere to get their best stories from the pit. This week, German prog rock/metal band Beyond the Bridges shares the following story of a bassist embarking on a glorious crowd surfing trip, and a vocalist who wasn't quite as lucky:
Actually we're not a hardcore extreme death metal band, which kicks ass with hard riffs and death-bringing blastbeats. In fact the music of Beyond the Bridge is meant to a polyrhythmic head-nodding audience. But even “BtB” has a dark past as a school-band with alternative-indie-progressive-rock songs, only known in and around Frankfurt, Germany.
A single legendary gig we had one night in one of the most famous clubs in Frankfurt, a newcomer band contest. Hundreds of fans were traveling with us and celebrated until the last encore. We saw nothing but raised hands, time for stage diving. Bass man “Dömsen,” our featherweight, jumped down the stage and was carried all the way to the FOH, yeah!
Our singer at that time, was jumping down, too, but he wasn´t that kind of airy as Dömsen was. And the crowd felt that their own security is more important than taking the once in a lifetime opportunity of touching the singer of a rock band. But it was indeed a once in a lifetime experience for the singer.
Beyond the Bridges recently signed with Frontiers Records and "The Old Man And The Spirit" album is scheduled for release on January 20th, 2012 (EU) and January 24th, 2011 (North America). For more details on Beyond the Bridges, head over to the band's Facebook profile.
Check back in again next Tuesday as Metalunderground.com continues to share more Pit Stories from metal bands and fans.

In a free ranging discussion with Great New Metal founder and publisher Brian Shields, Between The Buried And Me's Paul Waggoner let's young musicians know that is takes more than just advanced software in a bedroom studio to earn the attention of metal fans.
"If you're going to commit yourself to being a musician, particularly in this genre, it's a blue-collar job," Waggoner tells Shields in a conversation recorded at San Francisco's Fillmore venue. "You have to get out there. You have to get on the road. You have to tour. You have to work hard. You have to hit the streets and play shows and people's basements and whatever you have to do to show people that you play your instruments and that you're not just a recording. You're a band."
Waggoner says that's one of the reasons he's joined other established metal musicians, such as Paul Masvidal (Cynic) and Brian Fair (Shadowsfall) in supporting Great New Metal, a music journalism project designed to create a buzz around up and coming metal bands, growing their audience, and helping them to monetize that new fan base. Watch the video interview below.

Asbury Park Press is reporting that the vocalist of metal act Minutia started the recent false rumors of Jon Bon Jovi's death on purpose due to being "irritated" about his commercial success outside of music. An excerpt from the story follows:
Jeffrey Goho of Fairless Hills, Pa., said that at the time he started the rumor last week about Bon Jovi’s death he just wanted the rocker, who grew up in Sayreville, to stay behind a microphone.
Goho claims to have started the rumor with a post on a friend’s Twitter account but said he didn’t anticipate the widespread retweeting of his false report. The night the rumor peaked, Dec. 19, Jon Bon Jovi was performing in Red Bank.
“I’m in a band as well, and I was going into the recording studio, and we had talked about how the music industry just started taking a turn into crazy new worlds that no one, really, can assess,” said Goho, 30, in a telephone interview Monday. “Long story short, I was talking to my band members on their down time, and we got so worked up in the conversation, I just kind of took the liberty and started (the rumor), because I was so irritated.
“All I heard was ‘Bon Jovi this,’ ‘Bon Jovi’s starting a restaurant.’ What was the latest one? The Advil commercial (featuring Bon Jovi)? It was like, ‘Jeez, (Bon Jovi) was a household name due to the music, not the business.’ So I’m not proud of it. I’m getting a lot of backlash from it, but as stupid as it sounds, that’s how it started. I just had a blurb and went with it.”
Goho also commented via the Minutia Facebook profile:
"I'm getting a shit load of backlash from my most recent stunt. So, just to make it official, I'm sorry for the entire Bon Jovi thing. I will repeat the same exact thing that I told the Philadelphia Soul and everybody else spamming the fuck out of my email account. I am truly sorry for any and all damage that I caused Mr. Bon Jovi, his band members, and his family. And as I've told you blood-sucking press mongrels... I endorse all of his business endeavors and hope that he continues to bring prosperity to the Philadelphia region and tri-state area. And please stop sending attached hate mail to my fellow band members. They are in no way involved. I did it on my own."
