Following news of the cancellation of the European leg of Gwar's "Return of the World Maggot" Tour in January, Oderus Urungus has taken to Twitter to vent some of his disgust at the promoters and other factors that gave rise to the cancellation. While stressing his love for the die-hard European Gwar fans, he hits out at the reasons behind it all on @TheRealOderus. Below are some excerpts and a screen shot. Follow Oderus' Tweets at this location.
Of all the American (dual citizenship w/ Antarctica) bands that tour there, we probably have the most appreciation for European culture.More...
Getting disturbing reports of zero promotion and tickets still on sale...the sad part is we LOVE YOU EUROPE. We really miss you.
Believe me, if we had the money, we would, we have done it before!
And I will fucking go after it, this whole fucking thing pisses me off so bad, and I am just looking for a neck to wrap my hands around.
For now our focus must be on making sure that all of those fans who bought tickets get their money back. If you don't, tell me DIRECTLY.
This is but another bump in the road for the mighty GWAR! It shall not hinder nor dissuade us in our unholy quest...whatever that is.
It breaks my black heart that they shall be deprived of this...BUT
I know they wanted to say goodbye to Flattus. really, our fans in Europe are some of the most fanatical and loyal I have ever known.
Going about as far from the traditional metal lineup as you can before entirely leaving the genre behind, the Heart of Barf trio defies expectations by consisting of a drummer, sax player, and extreme vocalist.
If the lineup and the name makes you think the group is joke to laugh at for 10 seconds and move on, think again: although clearly not taking themselves too seriously, the guys from Heart of Barf make surprisingly well crafted music that effectively shows the sax is a metal instrument. You can check out several songs from the band by heading over here.
To get the inside scoop on Heart of Barf and find out how the bizarre combination of musicians came to be I got in contact with sax maestro Ed RosenBerg, who discussed the band's history, how metal groups have used sax in the past, and the difficulties of writing sax parts for a heavy and fast paced band. Reno, Nevada blackened death metallers Blasphemous Creation have inked a deal with Russian record label HeadXplode Records. The band's second full length album "Battle Of The Ancients" will be released sometime in early 2012.
The album was engineered by Josh Williams at Metal Works Recording Studio in Folsom, CA and the cover artwork (available below) was handled by Tony Koehl of Sketch The Soul Studios. This second offering is a follow up to Blasphemous Creation's first full length album "Diabolical Kingdom," which was released on San Francisco label Apocrypha Records. The following press release was issued about the album's themes:
"'Battle Of The Ancients' is a concept album based on the ancient Sumerian gods the Anunnaki, who were actually flesh and blood extraterrestrials from a planet called Nibiru. It is a fictional story based on lead guitarist/vocalist Isaac Wilson's own beliefs in ancient astronaut theory, that ancient gods were actually aliens from other planets with superior technology and were able to travel through space. The album tells the story of great battles fought between the Anunnaki and a humanoid race called the Plejaren, who were genetically engineered by the Anunnaki to be used as slaves. After defeating them, the 'Gods' came to Earth and once again created human beings to serve them as slaves."
Los Angeles, CA misanthropic sludge-rockers -16- have completed recording their new album, set to be released this Spring via Relapse Records. The new record, entitled "Deep Cuts from Dark Clouds" was recorded with the band’s friend and longtime engineer Jeff Forrest at Double Time Studios in San Diego, CA. The album was then mastered by Pig Destroyer’s Scott Hull at Visceral Sound Studios. The official track list, release date and artwork for "Deep Cuts from Dark Clouds" will be released shortly.
Bassist Tony Baumeister commented on the new album:
"We're very excited about the release of our new record. The addition of Mateo on drums opened a lot of doors for us creatively. We experimented with different time signatures, different tunings, and finally made the album we've wanted to make all along. The goal was to destroy our last record, and we feel like we achieved that. We can't wait for people to hear it, and can't wait to play these songs live. US and European touring plans are in the works..."
Los Angeles, CA’s Murder Construct has entered the studio to begin work on the band's debut full-length. The as-yet-untitled album follows-up the band’s acclaimed self-titled EP and is being recorded in CA at Architeuthis Sound with engineer Sean Vahle.

Murder Construct features Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) on vocals, Leon del Muerte (Exhumed) on guitar and vocals, Kevin Fetus (Fetus Eaters) on guitar, Danny Walker (Intronaut) on drums, and Caleb Schneider (Bad Acid Trip) on bass. The band previously released a seven-song EP that saw its release in November of 2010.
Murder Construct’s Leon del Muerte commented on the upcoming full-length: "I'm not even sure we thought we'd ever finally get around to doing this shit. Over the last couple of years, we've managed to piece together 12 shivarees to the blast beat. We decided to invite some of our friends over to help with the shenanigans, too! Overall, should be a big, fat, noisy fucking mess that picks up where the EP left off."

Lancaster, PA's March To Victory has just been named 2011's best metal band by Atlantic City, NJ's Elephant Talk Indie Music Magazine. The band has also been called PA's best metal band by Biz R Entertainment, Central PA's best band by Philly's 191 Radio, and 2011 best Metal performance by Stout's Brewery's Battle of the Bands (3rd place overall).
2011 has been a busy year for the band, which released the debut full-length "Frostburg 666" in February and toured the U.S. from May to September without the aid of a larger headlining act. This year alone the band shared the stage with the likes of Suffocation, Immolation, Vital Remains, Mortician, Grave, Hate, Jungle Rot, WormRot Gigan, Bloodred Throne, Revocation, Black Anvil as well as hundreds of local acts.
The band is currently working on new material for the next album, which will also be the first to feature new front man "Freak" (who also growls for Parkesburg PA's death/grind band and Born Of Chaos Records labelmates Lead Farmer) who joined the band after "Frostburg 666" was recorded, but before it's release.
"I think of Gauchiste as setting a mood for an abstract form of storytelling, a kind of lighting or fog that proliferates throughout a room. It's more like horror meditations," says Tannon Penland (Loincloth), one-third of the trio Gauchiste, which is set to release a self-titled debut album via Little Black Cloud Records on January 17th, 2012.
The release will be available digitally and physical products are limited to 100 records and 100 CDs, each of which comes in its own unique, specially designed packaging. "Gauchiste" was mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Scorn, Lotus Eaters) who has worked with such acts as Sunn O))), Earth, and Goslings.
Says Tannon, "The idea of Gauchiste came to be out of a shared love of oppressively heavy music and abstract minimalist forms that moved us to ask the question 'How can we play with and communicate sonically the otherness or peripheral spaces in these worlds, that which hovers above them and around them?' We all love metal in our own way. I imagine some will hear Gauchiste as an extension of black metal, but it isn't at all. Metal in general is only a very small part of the end result." More...

German black metal band Thorngoth has checked in with the following announcement about the band's upcoming fourth album:
"At present we're rehearsing for the fourth full length album, which probably will be called 'SCHWARZ-KARG-KALT.'
"We've scheduled the recording of the album for February 2012. Thus we'll again produce the album by ourselves, that's just an approximate date.
"'SCHWARZ-KARG-KALT' contains the darkest songs Thorngoth has written so far. Yet it also takes Thorngoth's style a step further into a more progressive type of black metal."
Thorngoth also recently posted several songs online from the last album "Leere," with full details available at this location.

Oakland, CA hard rock band High on Fire has entered Salem, Massachusetts' GodCity Studios to begin tracking their as-yet-untitled new album. The world renowned group featuring drummer Des Kensel, bassist Jeff Matz and guitarist / vocalist Matt Pike (also of legendary stoner metal trio Sleep) is collaborating with producer and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou on the new effort; the band's sixth studio recording and follow up to 2010's "Snakes for the Divine." A mid-2012 release date is expected via eOne Music.
"We are really stoked about recording this album," said Jeff Matz when asked for comment. "The new songs are turning out absolutely punishing; there are some seriously sledgehammer riffs on this one! Working with Kurt has been awesome as well. He's super easy to work with and is full of good ideas. The sounds that the guy gets are ridiculous and raw as f*ck but also clear and HUGE. I think this album will capture the essence of the band really well. It's still early in the process, but so far it's sounding amazing."
High on Fire's work on the new album follows more than a year and a half of world touring in support of "Snakes for the Divine," which included multiple North American headlining jaunts and international festival appearances as well as tours alongside friends and peers in Metallica, Slayer, Mastodon and The Melvins, the latter of which saw the trio caught in both the February 22, 2010 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand and the powerful earthquake and resulting tsunami in Tokyo, Japan on March 11. The popular U.S. group was unharmed, but shaken after surviving its second natural disaster in sixteen days and was able to return to its native Oakland a few days later.
Tentative song titles from the new High on Fire LP include "Serums of Liao", "Madness of an Architect", "De Vermis Mysteriis", "Spiritual Rites" and "Warhorn". Early reports mark the new record as "direct, eye-opening and powerfully supernatural." More details on the album will be made available in the coming weeks.
AFM Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of industrial veterans MINISTRY, one of the most innovative and legendary bands of our time. AFM will release Ministry's highly-anticipated comeback album Relapse in March. Prior to the album, MINISTRY will release a digital single, entitled “99%” on December 23rd, 2011 via the band's iTunes store.
Currently, Ministry mastermind Al Jourgensen is finalizing the last mixes on the new material. Al Jourgensen comments on the signing: "Our 13th Planet Record releases have been distributed in Europe via AFM through our partner Soulfood Music in Germany for several years now, and we have established a solid business relationship, so it made perfect sense to take the next step and have AFM Records come on board and be involved with the new Ministry release for worldwide and digital distribution. I’m pretty psyched about the collaboration, based on the response and enthusiasm I’ve received from AFM so far…"
Vocalist/bassist Alan Robert from Life of Agony, known for his comic book series "Wire Hangers" and "Crawl to Me," has been confirmed to star in the season two premiere of TLC's show "NY Ink." Last season, the show's Wooster Street Social Club crew had such guests as Corey Taylor, Method Man and LaMarr Woodley - who all got inked in the studios and told their stories. Robert shared the following quote about being on the show:
"Wooster St. has some of the most amazing tattoo talent around, so I was thrilled to get my piece done by Megan. Her style is perfect for the ink I chose," said Robert. "Being on the show was a trip and it was interesting to see, first hand, just what goes into making a hit series like this. I give the artists a lot of credit, too. It's one thing to deliver kick-ass tattoos day in and day out... but it's another thing to try and do that with a bunch of cameras jammed in your face. No pressure, right?!"
Alan Robert's graphic novel "Crawl to Me" will be in book stores in January of 2012. More...
