Baltimore extreme metal act Swarm of the Lotus has issued the following band update, provided in the statement below:
"We wanted to make an official announcement that Swarm of the Lotus is on indefinite hiatus. I guess we felt that we got everything we could out of the reunion for now. It was fun to get together again and play some shows.
"Jon-John [Michaud, drums] joined another band back in the summer and is keeping busy with that, so be on the lookout for him with that project. We wish him well. As for the remaining three members (bassist/vocalist Chris Csar, guitarist Bob Brockmeyer and guitarist/vocalist Peter Maturi), we wish to continue with the path that the new Swarm of the Lotus material was heading and have subsequently resituated and are going to keep playing and have since late summer. However, we are not going on as 'Swarm of the Lotus.' We didn't want to make the mistake the band made in the past with continuing under the same name despite different personnel. And being this was basically the original lineup, we feel it would be doing the band and Jon a disservice to keep using that name.
"If we ever decide to reunite as 'Swarm again to play a show here or there in the future, we will let you know!
"So, like we said, the three of us that remain are starting a brand new band, with new material, playing none of the recorded catalogue of Swarm of the Lotus. As of today, we have no name and won't until we have the other people we need to complete the band and name it as a collective, rather then anybody feeling they are joining something already established. This is where you may come in.
"We are looking for a bass player and a vocalist!
"The band's configuration so far is Chris on drums and Pete and Bob on guitar.
"It took us a few months to get readjusted but we have been practicing and writing and have even made a recording which we are launching online today, along with this announcement."

Legendary Canadian drummer Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) has formed a new band with former Nile members Chief Spires and John Ehlers. The band, named Temple of Thieves, is reportedly a more experimental outlet for the death metal musicians. Chief Spires commented on Temple of Thieves by saying:
"It's definitely different than anything we've done in the past. We wanted to step outside our boundaries and do something that we enjoy listening to. I know we'll probably get blasted because it's not death metal. No worries — we can take it — and I'm sure there's people out there that will enjoy it."
Within Temptation vocalist Sharon Den Adel has posted the following statement online, in regards to the band's forthcoming studio album "The Unforgiving."
"Obviously, the discussions about the new album have really been set on fire by 'Where Is The Edge'.
"But for the people who liked it, we're afraid that it's really not revealing much of what's to come…
"From the moment we started writing this album, we felt it was time for change, to take a bigger step in our musical development then we've done with the last two albums. But instead of getting inspiration from unknown territories, we've found them in our musical roots, the metal, rock and even pop hits of the late '80s [and] beginning 90s.
"Now, we can tell you about the new songs, but the only way to explain it and for you to judge it, is to hear it.
"A fact is that 'The Unforgiving' is the album with the most diversity between the songs then ever before. Containing the heaviest riffs we've ever played, lots of uptempo moments, guitar solos, but at the same time also some of the most catchy stuff ever. We definitely didn't want to say goodbye to the filmic orchestral material, but there are more reasons for that…
"We really can't wait to release this album as it belongs in your hands, but, unfortunately, we all need to wait until the end of March.
"Now here's the good news: to endure the waiting, soon we'll release 'The Unforgiving' video trailer containing parts of different songs, the music videos and… (more about this third ingredient later)."
Symfonia, the melodic metal supergroup featuring former members of Helloween, Stratovarius, Angra and Sonata Arctica, has posted two clips from the studio online. After the second break up of metal titans Celtic Frost, front man Tom G. Warrior went on to found his own band Triptykon to release more heavy sounds on the world. The new extreme metal outfit launched both its debut full-length "Eparistera Daimones" and an EP titled "Shatter" earlier this year. Celebrating the start of a new band and the release of new material, Triptykon stormed North America alongside 1349 and Yakuza. Shortly after the end of the tour, Tom G. Warrior spoke with me about how the band has been received by fans and press so far, how the EP and the full-length album are connected, and his plans to release a new autobiography. More...
In a statement posted on DevilDriver's official site, bassist Jon Miller gave the following update on his future with the band:
"To all DevilDriver fans and friends, I wanted to give you an update on my status as far as my health is concerned. Regarding the past 2 European tours, I was either forced to leave by my own accord or asked to leave by my band/managment.
"I have been touring with DevilDriver for almost the past ten years and the drugs and alcohol have finally caught up with me. I realized this when I ended up in the ICU on my birthday last week.
"I need to make a change so that I can save my own life and keep the friends that I still have left. I know that alot of DevilDriver fans seek me out first as the one to party with because I consider myself a very social person who is quite outgoing, personable and friendly.
"That was all fun in my 20's touring with the band, but as I am entering my early 30's I can feel the damage catching up with me mentally and physically. I don't want to burn out prematurely before my time on this Earth is up. On January 1st I will be entering an intense rehabilitation program in order for me to reclaim my health and the person who I once was.
"I will not be doing the Canadian tour in January or the Australian tour in February and March. This is for my own good. I need to come out of rehab with a sound body and mind. After I complete my rehabilitation I hope to see all DevilDriver friends and family as soon as I can. Much love to you all."
Amalgama has posted a video online for the song "Forsaken Soldiers," which can be viewed after the jump. The band also commented on the video:
"If you follow our Twitter feed or Facebook status updates then you're probably already apprised of the latest development coming out of the Amalgama camp late last week, but if not we'd like to just blow your mind real quick: our new music video is done. Boom. Proceed to the following link to director Brian DeFrees' website or to the Vimeo page directly. Filmed on location at Valentines in Albany NY, Brian did a phenomenal job putting this clip together for 'Forsaken Soldiers' and captured the live feel of the band perfectly.
"Speaking of live gigs, we're fresh off our Sunday night gig on the 12th opening for Taproot. It was a balmy evening in December when we loaded in our gear to the club, despite the pissing rain that wouldn't relent for the duration of the evening. Our set was brief (it normally is for band's further down the bill) but we still put on a pretty punishing performance.
Darkest Before Dawn
Dogs of War
"We broke out 'Dogs of War' after not playing it in over a year (if not more; our mind is hazy on the last date its actually been performed). It's always refreshing to revisit those older, faster tunes every once in a while. Taproot was mighty and loud, as well as being super nice guys who took the time to chat with us before and after the gig. There are a few snaps (OK, screen grabs) on our Facebook page along with some other pics for your viewing pleasure. More...
Coldworker has checked in with the following update about recording a new album:
"The Making of The 3rd Album 2010-2011: Four sessions later and the 14 songs are all put on disc. Massive amounts of stress and worry has disappeared now when I'm actually done with this part of the recording.
"God damn, I am beat! More of less everything is aching but it was totally worth it. I am really, really satisfied with my performance this time. It feels like the best I've ever done behind the kit so far. I know every musician says that when they've recorded their latest stuff, but I really mean it.
"The other Coldworker guys have visited me in the studio and listened to the stuff and taken a lot of pictures that I hope they'll share in this diary. Oscar shot some stuff with three different video cameras and below is an exclusive first taste of the song 'The Glass Envelope.' Enjoy!" More...

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Ande Otte, guitarist of Canadian melodic hard rock band Versus The Nothing, shares one from a pizza joint in Manitoba:
Tuning our string waiting to play our set in Brandon, MB at a small pizza joint turned into a music venue for the night. I looked out at the crowd as they were rowdier than most and knew the night was gonna be great!! Just as we played our first note, a guy who we had been watching do the head bob for over an hour puked a bucket's worth all over the pit right in front of the stage. I looked at the bar tender and she gave me the look like thats metal. With no hesitation from the crowd they moshed throught the puke the entire set without even batting an eye and for some reason people kept falling in the pit that night. WORST SMELLING SET EVER!!
You can check out Versus the Nothing's music on their MySpace page.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

"The summer took us out to various festivals and some great gigs in London and the East. The final gig of the year for us was very special, its was our 10th Anniversary gig in November. Massive massive thanks to everyone who came and rocked the place with us! It was so great to see everyone going wild and singing along with us. It was great to meet up with some of you again that have been with us since the beginning, you blow us away with the support you give.
"Late this year we released an album teaser 'Bleed from you' for press and radio review. A really big thanks to Bruce Dickinson, ( BBC6 music) Kerry Devine, ( BBC radio) Neil Jones ( Star radio) and all the radio stations that have played our tracks and had us in the studio with them in the UK and Europe this year. Also huge thanks to Dave Evans @ Midlands Rocks and all the magazines and newspapers. The feedback and reviews we received have been so positive and encouraging. It's made us really excited about the release of the album in 2011.
"We just wanted to thank everyone involved in making our year a very positive and enjoyable one.
Have a very Merry Christmas and here's to a busy loud year of keeping it metal. We'll see you in February when we headline the Rocksoc gig in Cambridge. It's going to be a huge night. Thanks again and stay AWAKE!"
