After Demonical announced it will not be playing Rites of Darkness, Disma, Evoken, and Funebrarum have all checked with the following joint statement about canceling their appearances at the festival:
"We have all decided to cancel our appearances at 'The Rites of Darkness Festival' in San Antonio, Texas on December 10-11th due to the fact that the promoter has still not followed through with his promises and obligations to us (tickets, transportation, hotels etc). We apologize to our fans who have already purchased tickets but the situation is beyond our control. We have reached the end of our patience with Daniel Serna and foresee only more problems. Again we are sorry to have to make this decision but this treatment and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable!!"
Evoken also added:
"Apologies for those looking forward to seeing Evoken as well as our brothers Disma and Funebrarum. We promise to make it up to those who paid their hard earned money to see us. This wasn't a decision taken light.
"We're not here to slam anyone, but being one of the first bands announced for the festival, it should not take up until one week before a performance to receive any information. We will not re-consider, we will not compromise."
Further details on the Rites of Darkness festival and updates from the festival organizers can be found at this location.

Massacre Records has inked a deal with German act Farewell to Arms. The label commented:
"Landsberg am Lech back in 2007 - Farewell to Arms were born. Melodic, uncompromising, technically ambitious, versatile and curious - that's how you could characterize the band.
"Their goal is to define themselves without following any trends: Farewell to Arms are not one of those typical metal bands and they won't play the music you've heard a thousand times before! They have a unique style, which combines a lot of death metal, thrash metal, progressive and hardcore elements.
"Their first 4-track EP 'Exhalation,' which was produced by Corni Bartels (Hackneyed, End of Green), was released in late 2010.
"After numerous live gigs, also at various festivals, Farwell to Arms were also finalists of this year's New Blood Awards. So they also played at the Summer Breeze Open Air with Davidian, who are now their label mates.
"In spring 2012 Farewell to Arms are going to enter the Weltraumstudios in Munich to record their debut album with Corni Bartels.
"Welcome on board, guys!"

Pulverised Records is pleased to announce the addition of U.K. based deathcrust extremos, Winds of Genocide. The label commented:
"Spawned in 2006, Winds of Genocide is poised to inflict apocalyptic domination with their offensive d-beat onslaught. A bastardized fusion of Cianide, Amebix, Unleashed and Bolt Thrower, Winds of Genocide are working on their as-yet-titled debut full-length album, which should see the light of day in Armageddon 2012."
Commented Winds of Genocide lung-torturess Kat Shevil of the signing: "We are extremely honored and excited to be signing and working with Pulverised Records for a full-length album and to be joining such a roster that includes such great bands as Bastard Priest, Morbus Chron, Iron Lamb, Impiety, Grave Desecrator, Tyrant, Crucifyre, In Aeturnum, Interment, Tribulation, Desultory, Seance etc. Pulverised Records is a great label run by dedicated people with a great and long history of quality releases to their name. We look forward to unleashing a powerful destructive debut album which will pulverize your ears. Expect nothing less than pure fucking aural armageddon!"
Added Pulverised Records label manager Roy Yeo: "We seemed to have a (dis)taste for scruffed-up and no-holds-barred extreme bands these days, so having WINDS OF GENOCIDE on our roster is definitely the next logical step. WINDS OF GENOCIDE has without a doubt convinced us with their previously released The Arrival Of Apokalyptic Armageddon EP release, and we are very sure that the upcoming full-length effort will prove that WINDS OF GENOCIDE is going to further terrorize everything in sight (and sound, of course). D-beat krusaders, you have been forewarned!"

During a performance of Machine Head's classic track "Davidian" at a recent show in Brussels, guitarist Phil Demmel became yet another victim of an unidentified heckler wielding an airborne missile - in this case, a shoe. Demmel promptly exited the stage following the incident, while his bandmates played on as a three-piece.
Demmel (and, oddly, bassist Adam Duce) remained conspicuously absent for the bow at the conclusion of the band's set.

Coinciding with two shows show in their hometown of Berlin, Germany, Rammstein was celebrated with a mausoleum. The bands from “the old days” of metal are growing increasingly rare and falling out one by one as the years pass. Intruder is a true hayday classic metal act, with their first album, “Live to Die,” being put out in the year between Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” and “…And Justice For All” albums. Hailing from Nashville, Intruder sports a blend of classic thrash with progressive tendencies, making them an interesting beast. Speaking to their drummer John Pieroni was an opportunity for me to connect with the mysterious “old days” of metal that I never got the chance to experience, having been born a year after that album was released.
The week after Intruder's reunion show, skinsman Pieroni and I dove into fish & chips and metal at an Irish pub in Nashville on November 17th. Pieoni shared the details on how the band came to be, gave some advice on band management, the inception of Intruder, and the band’s reunion. He also confirmed the band’s appearance in the upcoming 2012 Headbangers Open Air festival in Germany and an upcoming record. More...
