Megaton Leviathan are a band just starting to gain some momentum, thanks in small part to a recent stint touring alongside Wolves in the Throne Room. The nationwide tour saw them take their drone/doom sound to plenty of fresh ears. The band lets their music do the talking, keeping the vocals very low in the mix and out of sight for minutes at a time.
It’s all about atmosphere for the band, and nowhere is that more evident than in their debut LP “Water Wealth Hell On Earth.” Featuring the 20-minute, two-part title track and a monstrous closer clocking in at a precise 33:33, the band has a lot to say and doesn’t like to rush through their music. I had a chance to send some questions via e-mail to vocalist/guitarist Andrew James Costa to get a better idea of what Megaton Leviathan is all about. More...

Today Metal Injection has premiered the latest video from Indiana black metal duo Ptahil. "For His Satanic Majesty’s Glory," is the title track from the band's latest full-length (reviewed here), available now via Wraith Productions. The video was shot in Fort Wayne, Indiana by Erika Wyss and Jeffrey McManus from T.O.D. Multimedia.
Commented multi-instrumentalist Mhaghnuis of the maniacal presentation: "'For His Satanic Majesty's Glory' is a visual and musical representation of the rebellious spirit making it's presence known in the world today. The intention of the video is to instigate confrontational episodes between those who see themselves as 'in authority' and those who see themselves as 'the peasants.' Depending on your own social class, you may see this video as doing wrong, or you can see this video as doing right. But, what everyone can see is, WE ARE ALL SLAVES TO OUR OWN WANTS, DEATH IS FREEDOM! You either die vanquishing your foe, or live long enough to become what you hate."
Check out the video clip below. Ptahil will also perform a special live ritual to close out the year. Fort Wayne, Indiana residents are encouraged to participate:

For nearly twenty years, Australia-based Mournful Congregation has stamped its listeners’ mind’s eye with tales of agony and ecstasy, tragedy and harmony. While fanatics of the funeral doom fold were certainly aware of Mournful Congregation’s epic arrangements, the group hasn’t received much exposure in America. That is until now. Thanks to American distribution through 20 Buck Spin Records and a greater media presence via Earsplit PR, Mournful Congregation has gotten people talking.
2011 was a busy year for the Aussie troupe. In September, they released “Unspoken Hymns,” which consisted of material pulled from split albums, a Thergothen cover and a reworked song. Two months later, more melancholic tones found the ears and hearts of their listeners with new album “The Book of Kings.” In true funeral doom fashion, each track contains an emotional and time-wise heaviness rivaling the weight of Stonehenge’s megalithic slabs.
One can’t properly appreciate Mournful Congregation’s heaviness without experiencing their music in a live setting. I had the pleasure of witnessing their first tour in the U.S., which came a day after they closed the Rites of Darkness Festival in San Antonio. Three guitarists created a rumble that would make Zeus jealous. The group replicated this large trinity of sound through a choir of three vocalists on its ending track “Suicide Choir.” Before witnessing this tour de force, vocalist Damon Good and guitarist Justin Hartwig spoke to Metal Underground about composing such grand arrangements. New York death metal band In The Casket has made an announcement about a new/returning band member as well as an update on their next release. Here it is straight from the band:
"All of us from In the Casket want to welcome a 6th member to the band, we recently brought in Kyle Hendrickson to fill multiple roles in the band. Kyle will be focusing on keyboard as well as third guitar. We have been working for the last month to get everything ready so Kyle can play his first show with us in Feb 2012. We have been considering bringing in keyboards for a while but it was hard since not every one of our songs will play nice with keyboard, this is why Kyle is a perfect addition since he can also play guitar when keyboard isnt needed. Kyle is not new to In the Casket though, he is an old friend and he played 2nd guitar with us in 2009 and also rcorded and played bass tracks on the 2009 EP. Besides playing with ITC in the past Kyle has also played in Wasteform, Balls Deep, and other notable 518 metal bands.
"We also have an actual website now for anyone that hasn't checked it out, it can be found at inthecasket518.com and we have a bunch of free downloads on the audio page. We are also very excited for some of the upcoming shows in 2012 as well as other big news we will be announcing as soon as we are allowed to. We go into the studio in Feb also and will be releasing a 5 track - 35 minute album in the spring and then another one before the end of the year that will be longer. We hope to see many people out at the upcoming shows, lately the turnouts have been awesome and we appreciate everyone that supports us! Keep an eye out on are sites for new info and news that will be coming soon! Merry Christmas to everyone as well and prepare for 2012!"

It doesn’t take long when wandering the streets of the sprawling, congested, and smog-ridden city of Bangkok, once known as the Venice of the East due to its many canals, long since paved over, to realize that metal lives here. Young and old sport metal t-shirts with surprising regularity, metal paraphernalia abounds in shops here and there, and even airport employees asked this recent visitor to the country, upon seeing his tattoos and metal garb, “What metal band are you in?” Though scene insiders in Bangkok remarked to this correspondent that the Bangkok scene is largely split among subgenre lines, it clearly does little to diminish the following among the brutal bands of the Bangkok scene. Here are four punishing bands hailing from Thailand’s capital waiting to unleash upon you and aural assault of massive proportions. More...
