German goth metal act Xandria have announced the addition of Manuela Kraller as its new, permanent vocalist. Manuela Kraller commented on joining Xandria by saying:
"My musical life started very late, at the age of 23. In a choir in Finland I discovered singing for me and since then it became my passion. I began to take classical singing lessons, sang in church and gospel choirs and soon I was asked to be a solo singer in choirs, at churchly and also at private occasions. But as I have grown up with metal and rock music I soon wanted to combine it with my classical background. So I started singing rock and metal songs with a friend and also wrote own songs for the first time. Soon after that I joined a metal band called Nagor Mar (Switzerland) and I also became a singer in the German band Haggard, where I had great experiences on stage and on tour. And now a 'new age' has begun for me and I am very pleased to be the new singer of Xandria!"

Scotting pirate metal act Alestorm has posted the following update online:
"It is my very great pleasure to announce that on January 10th Alestorm will be heading to the studio to record our third album, which we're gonna call 'Back Through Time'. It's gonna be an epic adventure through piratical badassery in 11 tracks, with more drunken singalong anthems than you can shake a stick at. There will be songs about midgets. There will be songs about Wisconsin. There will be songs about travelling through time to kill Vikings. And, of course, loads of songs about pirates doing what they do best; kicking your ass and stealing your wenches!
"Lasse Lammert will once again be at the helm of the production, at his LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany. We'll be there for about a month (one week of recording, three weeks of alcohol abuse), and we're hopefully looking at a release in early summer, in time for us to kick your asses with these songs at all the festivals.
"In no particular order, here's the songtitles that we've got penned for the album:
The Sunk'n Norwegian
Shipwrecked (Pure Dead Banjaxed)
Back Through Time
Death Throes Of The Terrorsquid
Scraping The Barrel
"Of course these are all possibly subject to change, if we go crazy in the studio. There will inevitably also be a silly digipak version with a bunch of daft covers as bonus tracks as well, the exact details of which we'll announce at a later date."
Original Judas Priest vocalist Al Atkins has posted the following statement online in reponse to Judas Priest announcing its retirement tour, dubbed as the "Epitaph" tour. You can read the statement below:
"News coming in from the Judas Priest camp is that they will be doing a farewell tour next year in 2011, which will be a sad event for thousands of their fans worldwide.
"It was forty years ago when I first formed Judas Priest alongside 18-year-old K.K. Downing and Ian Hill - doesn't time fly past you when you're not looking? — and after four years fronting them, I left, to be replaced by Rob [Halford]. I have watched them grow into the metal gods that they are and can honestly say they deserve everything they have achieved over this time and they will leave us a legacy of great memories and brilliant metal anthems. I wish them all the luck with their 'Epitaph' farewell tour."

Sweden's Unleashed has issued the following statement about celebrating the winter solstice the Viking way:
"Warriors! The time has come for the celebration of the winter solstice, one of the most important traditions for the Viking. Come Tuesday the 21st, we decorate the great world tree Yggdrasil, and drink toasts to our friends and kin. And by night fall we gather around the stones and blot to our dead ones like so many times before.
"For those of you who have started the Yule celebrations around the 13th of December you have my utmost respect! (This was the approximate date of the winter solstice according to the Julian calendar before the year 1753 in Sweden). Continuing the ancient tradition of our forefathers, we now light the Yule fires on the 21st. Raise your horns and goblets and blot to those alike, and to prosperity in the coming year! Hail Odin! Hail Thor! It is MIDVINTERBLOT! Have an amazing Yule season!"

Anger As Art has checked in with the following end-of-year band update:
"Hey everyone - I want to take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Or Happy Hannukah, or Kwanzaa, or whatever your reason for celebrating the season. To anyone who doesn't appreciate why we celebrate it - oh well. Denny's will be open. Go celebrate alone with the other bittermen. you know who you are.
"Speaking of bitter - I wanted to let you all know that beginning in 2011, Anger as Art will begin de-emphasizing our my space page - and begin to build our face book page. It is online over there right now - go look for Anger As Art on face book. Simple reason? Not necessarily that FB has taken over the market share so strongly. The best example I can give is that it took me 44 minutes from the time I logged in to be able to get to the blog to type a new one. My space's servers are too slow. That, and the fact that they allow so many people who do not understand html (myself included) to make their pages so individual that the average 5 to 7 year old computer cannot handle the upgrades.
"Sometimes these techhies are a little too smart for their own good - not realizing that progress on that level leaves a lot of people way behind - and in a bad economy, maybe the priority is paying the rent, not buying a new computer every 6 months. But... face book is where you will find the daily updates, blogs, tour announcements, recording info, etc. as well as blogs / opinions from each of the members, or even our record company. This page will always be here... but much like our traditional www.angerasart.com page, it will not be updated regularly. Much like all of you, we have busy lives - and using my space has become a lot like reading a 3 day old newspaper. While you were turning the pages - the world was turning. And there was nothing more annoying than logging on to any metal band's page and having a comment with soundbytes blaring some really bad hip hop or emo over your music. Delete, delete, delete. More...

French experimental/industrial act Life's Decay has issued the following statement about streaming several songs online from the band's back catalog:
"Greetings greetings, we are in a new MySpace era. Very confusing at the beginning but we got used to it.. now.. it is in fact a little better then before. Except that MySpace is the s l o w e s t website we know. I hope that they will fix that. Our thought is that MySpace is also currently suffering of too much of things here and there, mostly adverts. They should be more minimalist, more in a 'Google' style.
"Anyway, this post is to inform you that we made a brand new Life's Decay profile, everything has been updated and adapted to the new MySpace website. We also uploaded new music tracks (from older albums) and a video (vintage Life's Decay era). So, take a look at our profile, we hope that you will find it slightly |________| Thank you for reading."

Even if some bands from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal aren't as well remembered as others, some of them are still able to write songs that easily classics of the movement. No greater example is there of this than Blitzkrieg, who formed in the city of Leicester in 1980. The group quickly signed to Neat Records, who championed the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal by signing a number of other bands from the movement, including Venom, Raven and Tygers Of Pan Tang. Through the label, the band were able to release their first single, "Buried Alive" in 1981, though in later years, greater attention was brought to the singles B-side, the eponymous "Blitzkrieg," after it was covered by Metallica. Unfortunately, the band decided to call it a day after the single's release and the members went on to join different projects, the most notable of which was singer Brian Ross who had stints with such other bands as Satan and Avenger.
Following these other tenures, Ross decided to bring Blitzkrieg back in 1984, together with original guitarist Jim Sirotto and new members Mick Proctor, Mick Moore and Sean Harris, who had all performed in a number of other noticable British heavy metal bands. With this lineup, the band were finally able to release full length album, which came in the form of 1985's, "A Time Of Changes." The record was well received by fans and was noticable for it's re-recording of their self-titled song, as well as "Pull The Trigger," a song written by the band, Satan but was never used on any of their releases. It would be six years before Blitzkrieg released a new album, but at last in 1991, "Ten Years Of Blitzkrieg" was released, much to the delight of long time fans.
However, the band soon found themselves without a label and soldiered on until Neat Records re-emerged in 1995 and immediately signed the band to a three album deal, the first release of which was "Unholy Trinity," which had actually been recorded in 1992. Two more albums, "Ten" and "The Misfits Of Avalon" followed and both were well received by heavy metal fans worldwide, but in 1998, Brian Ross suffered from a serious car injury and the future of Blitzkrieg was placed in doubt once again. Lightning war was never stopped by automobile accidents however, and before long Ross resurrected the band once again, eventually releasing a new album in 2002 entitled, "Absolute Power." The band are still going strong today, performing at concerts and festivals worldwide, and still producing new albums, with their most recent effort being 2007's, "Theatre Of The Damned." More...
