Precious Metal, a series of live shows held at Lit Lounge in New York City, will come to an end on January 21st, 2013, after 6.66 years and over 300 events.
Created in 2006 by Curran Reynolds, a music publicist and drummer for bands such as Today Is The Day, Precious Metal showcased a diverse array of bands from around the city and as far away as Iceland, Italy, Iraq, and Australia. Precious Metal was named "NYC's best metal party" by The Village Voice, "the city's most open-minded metal night" by Time Out New York, "the best in contemporary extreme metal" by The A.V. Club, and "Manhattan's epicenter of underground metal" by Invisible Oranges.
The series will end with a benefit show to raise money for The South Sound, a Brooklyn music space destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Curran Reynolds issued the following statement:
“Friends, I am proud to announce the Grand Finale of Precious Metal. After 6.66 years and over 300 events, the series I started in May of 2006 will come to an end on January 21, 2013. We had a good run! Monday after Monday, we brought all sorts of heaviness into the den of Downtown grime and glamour that is Lit. These forces combined and added up to something special. I like to think we played a part in the resurgence of a New York City metal scene, one which now looks stronger than ever.”
BrooklynVegan’s Fred Pessaro adds: “I can't tell you how many great bands I have seen over the years at Precious Metal. The series is responsible not only for the first appearances from some favorite bands but also many personal friendships forged in that dingy basement.”
The remaining Precious Metal shows are as follows: More...

Ohio's Shall Be The Conqueror has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new drummer:
"Well, today is the day kids. Sorry to keep everyone waiting, but we knew it would be worth it. As most of you know, we have been without a drummer for a while. The search has been very tedious and not much fun, until today that is, haha. Our biggest problem with finding a drummer has been that we were looking for a person who met the following criteria:
"1. Technically proficient - A majority of those that we tried out were technically proficient enough to play the old music at least. The new music...that's a different story.
"2. Be a Musician first and a metal drummer second - This was where we ran into a lot of problems. We tried out several people who were great metal drummers. They had fast hands, fast feet and could shred with the best of them. You ask them to play something other than metal and things got rough. Our new tunes have so many styles of music mixed in them that this was where most people fell off. When going from a gravity blast+double bass section to a smooth jazz section makes you nervous, we've got troubles.
"3. Enjoy lots of different styles of music, not just metal - This sort of went hand in hand with number 2. As a band, we listen to LOTS of different styles of music and we found that those who did the same were a lot better at transitioning from a tech death part into a smooth jazz or doomy ambient part. Killing Joke will celebrate the band's 35th anniversary in style next year with the release of "The Singles Collection 1979-2012" and a world tour set to commence in Europe this coming March. 2013 will also see the band release a new studio album. The following press release was issued about the band's upcoming activity:
"With a fierce intelligence combined with a thirst for esoteric knowledge that matches a sound that is visceral and almost spiritual in its primal spirit, Killing Joke are like no other. This is a group spawned from punk rock that set out on one of the most remarkable and idiosyncratic journeys ever. Their influence has been enormous, with an unlikely roll-call of musicians taking their cues from the KJ catalog, from Nirvana to most modern American metal to many DJs and dance music mavericks. Few, however have come close to matching the band’s innate power.
"The Singles Collection 1979-2012, set for release via Spinefarm/Universal on April 16, 2013, captures their ever-evolving story with a series of dark, apocalyptic songs that have successfully combined disco, funk and shamanic wisdom with the dark side of the punk fall-out. The Singles Collection 1979-2012 will be released in three formats: as a digital download, a limited edition 3-CD set and a super deluxe edition." More...

Vocalist Brendan Murphy comments: "The video for The Disconnect is a perfect representation of us as a band. When we go on tour, we aren't there to impress anyone, we aren't going to 'work,' and we are going to have fun. Since day one, this band has been about having fun and making ourselves happy. This video gives people an insight into who we are when we aren't on stage and how we spend our time. Whether it is skateboarding, trust-falling off our trailer, dancing, getting drunk, playing UNO in crappy hotel rooms or just straight up being children; you can be sure that we're having the time of our lives. That's what motivates us to get in the van time after time." More...

Hello to everyone. Quick update here on what's been happening..
Had my friend Chris Emery lay down some drums. Managed to get 7 of the 14 Beauty In The Suffering songs we were aiming for. Very pleased we got that far. Was a pretty crazy session overall in terms of how many tracks we were shooting for. We just dove right in and got as many as we could before our ears threw in the towel.
Provo Provenzano was ace behind the board! The picture with all three of us is from about 10 hours into the 15 hour session. More pictures in the days ahead. Very happy with everything overall. Can't wait to get started on the rest of the tracking! Thanks as always for your support!
