Fresh off the release of a split album with Nature's Elements, Israeli black metal act Undivine Essence is currently in the process of putting together a debut full-length album. Explaining the meaning behind the band's name, guitarist Shay commented "The name Undivine Essence basically refers to the human itself. It’s about the impurity and foulness of the human way of life. It’s a reminder that people are still basically animals, and are still slaves to their drives and needs." Shay and vocalist Mike also went on to explain the recording of the split album and the band's development. More...
Futures End has issued the following statement regarding a dispute over the cover artwork for the band's "Memoirs of a Broken Man" album:
"We hired an artist named Chris Anway a couple of years ago to create original album art for 'Memoirs of a Broken Man.' His work was pretty cool and we paid him in three complete installments for his work. In order to make the cover fit the proper format for the CD dimensions, we had to crop out most of his MASSIVE signature.
"Once the record started selling, we got email from him sharing about how pissed he was that we removed his signature. Then we got demands for more money. Needless to say we told him to fuck off and hired a new artist to create all new artwork for the cover. You have all seen it here and on our webpage and the new artwork is featured in the DVD release we have coming out on February 15th.
"He tried suing us, but that didn't work because he had no case and the whole thing wasn't worth the cost of the gas it would take to drive to court. We tried to play fair with him. We had even offered to put his signature back on for the second pressing of the album, but he decided to continue trying to extort money that he was not due. So we dropped him and moved on. More...

5. Make Me Suffer
6. Lead the Blind

I'm really glad Eroc is mastering our album. He's a great engineer who has mastered thousands of CDs in his career. I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to Charles Greywolf (Powerwolf) for recommending Eroc to me. I'd also like to say that you can expect some songs on our myspace site in January. Stay tuned for further information!"

The organizers of the Summer Breeze fest have issued the following announcement about Hammerfall headlining the 2011 edition of the festival:
"Merry Christmas! Now that we're halfway through our Advent Calendar, which has had plenty of killer bands so far, we want to present you the first headliner for Summer Breeze 2011: Hammerfall.
"They are one of the most relevant and successful heavy metal bands of the last 15 years, yet they have never played at Summer Breeze. It's about time to change that! We are extremely happy to present Hammerfall as one of this year's headliners! The undisputed leaders of true metal have loads of metal anthems and catchy melodies under their belt, after they almost single-handedly put traditional power metal back on the map with their glorious 1997 debut 'Glory To The Brave.'
"And what started as a fairytale became a metal dream come true, including high chart entries all over Europe for every one of their seven studio albums. If each of you goes back in time for a minute, you will certainly remember at least one metal party where you were banging your fists singing along to hymns such as 'Steel Meets Steel', 'Hearts on Fire' or 'Heeding The Call'. To put it in their own words: 'Brothers unite! Let's stand up and fight!'" More...
Germany's Ingurgitating Oblivion has signed to Diabolical Conquest Records. Diabolical Conquest owner Kunal Choksi comments, "Ingurgitating Oblivion's music stands out because of the writhing, complex and engaging songs that are rooted in darkness and esotericism, and the Azagthothian influences that give it an otherworldly quality. Retaining the essence of pure death metal, Ingurgitating Oblivion push the limits of the style by giving it a brutal and challenging expression. I am proud to sign this band and I believe their new album will be remarkable."
Ingurgitating Oblivion guitarist Florian Engelke states, "Ingurgitating Oblivion would like to express their gratitude to Kunal and Diabolical Conquest Records and are indeed looking forward to bringing forth an inspiring variety of sonic blasphemies in co-operation with the label. We all are excited about this progression in Ingurgitating Oblivion's history and are looking forward to spread the disease!!! All hail to thee, Kunal!"
The band's new full length album will be released by Diabolical Conquest Records in 2011.

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. For my second article (read the first one here) I am going to look at three bands of three distinct genres in Heavy Metal, but in the emerging Halifax Underground you can find these three bands playing together on any given night.
Nova Scotia, with its small population and many rural areas, might not be considered the hotbed of metal, but when you look into the underground you see a very different story. With all styles of metal being accepted and embraced, the underground is growing each and every late night.
Black Moor consists of: Eric Hanlin – Guitar & vocals, Nick Jones – Lead Guitar, Rob Nickerson – Bass, Sylvain Coderre – Drums, and yes they are young. In fact I’m sure they are sick of people talking about how young they are, but why we as media are so amazed at their baby faces is because of the music that comes out of them.
The band rips tunes that are inspired by such heroes as Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica. When you are writing and playing music that has the sound of those amazing legends then you are going to have great show, especially when you pull it off as well as Black Moor. I can use all the adjectives here: hard hitting guitar riffs, raunchy vocals, blast beats! That’s all crap that as reviewers we use every day so if you need that at least I said it. In my opinion though Black Moor far outweighs those clichés. Their music is Raw Thrash that speaks to you on a level that I haven’t experienced since I was 14 and heard “Seek and Destroy” for the first time. As Heavy Metal Momma would say Black Moor is more of a feeling then a band. You can get that feeling at their MySpace page.
I will be the first to admit that having someone who could be my kid play music that takes me back to the days when thrash was king is weird, but hell I’m going to roll with it. What amazes me about them is they could certainly make some dollars standing up and doing cover songs, but they write and play what they like instead. That’s ballsy and what old-school thrash is all about.
Swedish melodic metal act Lion's Share has been confirmed for next year's installment of the Karmøygeddon metal festival, which set to take place May 6th -7th, 2011 in Haugesund, Norway. Other confirmed acts include Amorphis, Grave Digger, Crimson Glory, and The Haunted.

Midnattsol has issued the following update about the release of a new album:
"Many of you have been wondering lately when our third album will be released. Fortunately we are now happy to announce that the release date of 'The Metamorphosis Melody' is the 25th of March 2011. In addition to 11 brand new songs with almost an hour playtime, we have made a Limited Edition for you as well, this time with both a Bonus DVD and a Bonus track, sung by Daniel Droste. The exact content of the DVD and the titles of the new songs will be revealed in our next news. You can already preorder the Limited Edtion - and the Normal Edition on Amazon.de.
"We have some good news regarding live activities as well: Midnattsol is going to play a great deal live in 2011; you can watch us on concerts, festivals and tours. We can`t wait to show you the new songs and party with you. Watch out for more information!
"But unfortunately there is also some bad news for you: our guitarist Daniel Droste has recently left the band due to the fact that he wanted to concentrate on his band AHAB. We want to thank Daniel from the bottom of our heart for all the awesome and funny moments together with him in the rehearsal room, studio, tour bus and of course on stage and wish him all the best for the future, both regarding his musical career and private life.
"In order to be a complete band again, we are now in search of a new guitarist. We will keep you informed! Horns Up & Metal On."
Czech Republic based grindcore act Rubufaso Mukufo has posted a video clip online for the song "Hypertrophied," which can be viewed below. "Hypertrophied" is off the band's 2010 album "ReMoLAB."
Australian extreme thrash metal band Truth Corroded has revealed the cover art for the band's forthcoming new album "Worship the Bled," which can be viewed in the video clip below. The artwork for the album was designed by Bjoern Goosses of Killustrations. Commenting on the album cover, Truth Corroded bass guitarist Greg Shaw states "Killustrations have created some incredible album covers, and we really felt that Bjoern could capture the imagery we were looking for. The artwork conveys the message behind the album title - how the worship of monotheistic religion, political and economic ideologies and the waging of war have bled modern civilisation. We gave Killustrations the idea and that was the image created - it is confronting and communicates the title of the album."
The album's track listing is as follows: More...

Norway's Leprous has checked in from the Czech Republic with the following road report:
"We're spending one of our very last days on the tour in the Czech Republic. Last time it was Zlin, now Prague is up. Scott stops the engine outside a huge building; the DK Vltavska. Not much research were done on this place beforehand, but it would seem this is somekind of cultural center for all sorts of things. Later in the evening, loading out, we pass a swing dancing lesson. That's pretty damn cool. Anyway, the main stage is downstairs. Loch Vostok and us have two separate backstages. Usually this is a good thing, but when you're left with a 2 square meter room and can fit ONE chair in, you just know it won't be the center of tonights hang out. First come first served; Me and my laptop get the chair. On the other side of the wall is the stage for tonights eardrum-busting show.
"Tobias, Halvor, Einar and Tor Oddmund leave to see how this place compares to the other 24 (!) cities we've visited so far this November. I decide that staying and working on my studies are much more fun!! You'd be crazy not wanting to grab this fantastic opportunity to spend some quality homework time..
"It feels strange only having 4 shows left. We've played more shows this month than we have in years combined. Hopefully this will have only made us a much better live band, and we can't wait to show off after the tour;) As the tour is slowly coming to an end, some extra energy is unraveling on stage. Hope to see you in Budapest! More...

Batillus has issued the following announcement about contributing material to a compilation album:
"We were recently asked to participate in a compilation project involving 100 grind / noise bands from around the world curated and released by Andy Koettel via his Mortville label. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to do something a little out of the ordinary, a one-of-a-kind miniature representation of one of our songs that would act as an introduction to an audience that might not otherwise ever know about us.
"Here’s an explanation from Andy: 'This is the one everyone’s been waiting for, the final nail in Mortville’s coffin! This was easily the most ambitious project I’ve taken on in my 13 years of doing the label and it took me 13 months to put it all together. “Small Doses” is a 100 band international grind/noisecore CD compilation with all bands averaging 30 seconds. 100 bands in 44 minutes packaged with a 40 page booklet (including 5 pages of essays) and a die-cut folder.'"

December is a time for remembrance for many metal heads. Three years prior to the on-stage murder of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, metal lost another icon. Today marks nine years since Chuck Schuldiner's death. On December 13, 2001, "The Father of Death Metal" lost his battle with pontine glioma, a form of brain cancer, at just 34 years of age. Schuldiner was modest about his part in the history of death metal, noting "I don’t think I should take the credits for this death metal stuff. I’m just a guy from a band, and I think Death is a metal band."
Schuldiner was the singer, songwriter, rhythm and lead guitarist of the band Death, which he founded in 1983 under the name Mantas at just 16 years of age. For an extreme metal band, Death received much acclaim with their releases and Schuldiner was hugely influential on countless metal musicians. The band took a decidedly more progressive and technical turn by their final album, "The Sound of Perseverance" and on Chuck's following band, Control Denied. More...
