Following the latest full-length "Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa," the infamous British act Cradle of Filth has dropped a special release for fans titled "Evermore Darkly" (reviewed here) to hold over the Gothic metal hungry masses until the next studio album.
Spending some time at home recharging after a run of tour dates, iconic front man Dani Filth got in touch with Metalunderground.com to chat about the recent "Evermore Darkly" EP, an upcoming entirely orchestral release titled "Midnight in the Labyrinth," and the progress of writing an entirely new album.
Below you can find our full conversation, which also dipped into musings about writing film scores, the band's surprising techno remix of "Forgive Me Father," and the double-edged sword of the "Jesus is a Cunt!" t-shirt. More...
Polish extreme metal band Hate has been supporting Mayhem on a very long trek through the U.S. Hate has been spreading an amalgamation of metal genres since the early 90s and has a reputation well established in Europe.
With a new record deal and a foot in the door touring in America, Hate is growing in popularity more than ever. I got to talk to vocalist Adam the First Sinner just after their set when they performed in New Orleans at The Hangar. A transcription follows the video below. More...
Just four more shows and that's it for God Dethroned as the group officially disbands. Guitarist Danny Tunker gives us a look inside the heart and soul of the band with the following update:
"God Dethroned, the final year. 2011. When the decision was made to do it this way Michiel, Henk and I supported Henri's decision, of course, but it would be a lie to say we were happy about it. His reasons for doing it are -of course- his own and he looks to other horizons after playing with God Dethroned for 20+ years. He is building his own guitars, speakers and amps and going for that with the same intensity as he has played with God Dethroned for all those years.
"Originally, we would only do about 4 gigs as a 'farewell tour', though offers came in all the time. We did book some extra shows, one each in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and one show in Leewarden, Holland. Eindhoven Metal Meeting was going to be the final one (on December, 17th) and we have honored that commitment for all offers that came, safe one, which was just too good to turn down. I'm referring to 70,000 tons of metal of course. Any band would love to play that cruise. Play two shows on a cruise-ship with some of your favorite bands and 2000 fans? Forget it! So December, 17th is going to be the final show for God Dethroned on solid ground. The other 2 shows will be on a ship in the ocean.
"The other shows we did this year were Summer Breeze 2011, which was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had with this band and Motocultor in France the day after. Hanging out with Tyr and Moonsorrow on a nightliner and party? Check. Can't believe that was in August already.
"And now, it's November. And we only have 4 more shows to go. The first one on December, 10th in Groningen was added about 2 months ago when the protest from fans that we wouldn't play our unofficial 'hometown' became so overwhelming that we just gave in. It turned into a day full of bands where, as fate would have it, Michiel and I will be pulling double-duty as Prostitute Disfigurement will be playing, too.
"Then it's Eindhoven Metal Meeting. Then Christmas, New Year and a cruise. Can't believe this will be the end of it, but it sure has been fun. It probably won't hit me for some time, but once we play the final notes for 'Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross' in Eindhoven and somewhere on the Atlantic, it probably will.
"Thanks to the fans, bands, bookers and the lovely people at Metal Blade for all the support! Hope you all come out one last time to party with us."
Chilean progressive death metal band Annog Vnrama has uploaded an advance video of the song, "Black Calling," from it's upcoming album "Sons of a Fallen Angel." Check out more music from this Valparaiso band by visiting it's MySpace page. More...
U.D.O. has checked in with the following recap of the band's recent run of European tour dates:
"Last Saturday we finished our 3 months lasting European tour with a magnificent show in front of a fantastic and wild crowd. Thank you Memmingen, this was a real highlight at the end of a long and intensive tour and you really pushed us to the limit.
"Thanks to all our fans all over Europe who attended the shows and supported us all the time. This tour was the highlight of the U.D.O. touring history so far! THANK YOU!!
"During this Europen tour we played 49 shows and had 11 shows sold out plus many more nearly sold out. More than 40.000 people came to see us, this is FU**** GREAT!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
"2012 will be a very special year for U.D.O. but also for 'Mr. German Tank' Udo Dirkschneider himself. We will present a lot of interesting activities and also some very interesting news and releases.
"In spring 2012 we will tour Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and we plan to release the live CD/DVD/Blu-Ray of the 'Rev-Raptor Tour,' recorded during our Show in Sofia/Bulgaria in front of a few thousand people. In summer we will play festivals and another tour in South America. We hope to see you soon!"

Finland's Lunar Path has issued the following announcement about signing with Inverse Records:
"Lunar Path and Inverse Records are in business together! The first fruits of this collaboration will be to release the bands long anticipated debut album entitled 'Memento Mori' this coming winter.
"'Memento Mori' is a dark and brooding concept album set out to stretch the boundaries of traditional melodic/gothic metal. The songs themselves promises to tickle your spine with warm and cold flashes of traditional metal and darkly progressive stunts. And then you have the impressive guest roster of Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Aborym), Tuomas Saukkonen (Before The Dawn, Black Sun Aeon), JP Leppäluoto (Charon, Northern Kings, Harmaaja) and others.
"Vocalist Janica Lönn has also been working with Black Sun Aeon lately, most notably singing on their newly released and highly acclaimed 'Blacklight Deliverance' album. Aside from Lunar Path's tour plans she will also perform live with BSA at Summer Breeze 2012 and other european festivals next year."
Lunar Path has released a taste of what's to come with the music video, "The One Behind The Mirror," which you can check out below. More...

Chile is a world unto itself, a land of extremes that begins at the harsh Atacama desert to the north and extends thousands of miles to the south in the fjords of Patagonia. The population is of hardy, rugged stock and it's people are as diverse as our own. Within this long country of one time zone, you have all kinds of microcosms and people of diverse ancestry. There are influences from German and Italian lineage and plenty of native and indigenous folk residing amongst the Hispanic populace. And of course, one common thread appears to always transcend boundaries - music. In the case of metal music, Chile has an unbelievable amount of bands in every subgroup imaginable. Black metal bands such as Runepath have put out demos that have gotten recognition on many webzines, and even the ambient new age doom of Uaral has gone viral on YouTube. The majority of people will think of Tom Araya, who recently got the key to a city as a musical emissary, as the most popular Chileno - but delve a little bit deeper and you will find all sorts of bands.
Chile has been thrashing for years, and you can see this as evident when old schoolers such as Vastator regroup are still around putting out videos and even collaborate with Veronica Freeman ("The Gods Give No Reply"). The great thing about the Chilean metal scene as of late is the organization put into it. The Digmetalworld label has put alot of effort into showcasing and streaming countless bands and releases from Chilean and other South American artists. A fan of one band can easily jump and discover music from other groups this way. While you may stream dozens of releases this way and get to know more metal bands, I still find that many will investigate on their own as well. Great blogspots such as Paganvs Info, for those who can read Spanish, also highlight a vast amount of music from the pagan metal scene in Chile and South America. Here on Metal Underground, we have streamed the entire newest releases of such diverse Chilean metal bands as Lefutray, Sacramento and several others. Today we will take a look at a few different styles of metal bands currently active in the Chilean scene.
I like what Folkheim stand for. They have the touch of the common man in their message of popular rights and autonomy for indigenous people. They don't celebrate Columbus Day, because in their words it would be celebrating 519 years of conquistador oppression. They recently bowed out of the Caviahue festival on moral and monetary grounds, and continue to speak their peace on issues such as the funding of the HidroAysen energy project which many deemed environmentally unsound. Hailing from Antofagasta, they play a rich variety of ethnic black folk metal. Folkheim's first EP was 2006's "Pachakuti," which followed their 2004 demo "Touched by Thy Undisturbed Essence." They continue to play shows all over Chile and have an incredible cult following.

It will be just in time for us to hit the road with our friends in Whitechapel. Italian symphonic metal act Sound Storm has checked in with the following announcement about recording a new album:
"The band is glad to announce all the drums, bass, guitar, orchestral and vocals parts have been recorded in the past weeks. The new stuff is something impressive, and also the producer Ettore Rigotti (Disarmonia Mundi) is definitely satisfied with that.
"He says: 'I’m very pleased with the pre-production, the album will be very original and involving.'
"Production is taking place at Ettore’s The Metal House studios. In the next weeks the choir parts will be recorded: this time a much larger choir than in 'Twilight Opera' recordings has been employed.
"Last updates for now: the title of the album is a SINGLE word, and the first letter is 'i'… More news about the production and much more very soon…Stay tuned!"
Milking the Goatmachine has posted a new video clip online for "We Want You," filmed during the band's "Hatefest" European run. "We Want You" is off the band's "Clockwork Udder" album.

Deeds of Flesh has released a pre-production advanced teaser track of new material from the upcoming 2012 release "Portal to Canaan," which will see release on Unique Leader Records. Check out the video below. The band also commented on the clip:
"This is a pre-production teaser from the upcoming album Portal to Canaan (Unique Leader Records). This is only Guitar 1 and drum mapping (No 2nd guitar, leads or vocals) to give the fans an idea of whats to come."
Listenable will be releasing French act Outcast's third album "Awaken the Reason" in late February 2012. According to Ouctast, "'Awaken the Reason' is the band's strongest/most solid recording so far and it genuinely captured the band's musical madness. A modern sounding yet organic production spiced up by some frenzy extreme guitar and drums assaults!"
The band further comments:
"'Awaken the Reason' was recorded between January and September 2010 at The artist The Office Studio. It was mixed at SplitSecond Sound Studio By Jochem Jacobs (Textures) in October /November 2010 and then mastered at West West Side Music by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan). The album was composed between 2006 and 2009 mixing various influences among Steve Vai, Gojira, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Textures and Sikth.
"Our main goal was to stay away from traditional death music and produce a progressive album with personal signature. Eighty percent of the album was composed by Nicolas but everyone was at work to improve melodies and songwriting. That's why the album sounds like a concept album even if it's not. This way of thinking music mixed with several approaches of riffing and soloing constitute in our opinion the main guideline and would confer strong marks to the listener. So our minds were opened and focused on originality using old and new references in the whole metal industry."
When asked about how different this new album is compared to their previous full lengths, the band answered:
"The more obvious difference between Awaken The Reason' and Self Injected Reality, our previous album, is the production which gives more space and organic feelings to the composition. The composition and songs themselves are more coloured and progressive, more subtle in the ambiances are not just full-rooted in death metal."

Swiss industrial/groove metal band Sybreed announced that the band has finished writing the fourth album, entitled "God Is An Automaton," which is slated for release in April of 2012. The band will begin drum recordings today at Downtone Studio in Geneva. Mixing will take place in Los Angeles by Rhys Fulber. The band also head out to Australia for a tour in March of 2012.
The following update was posted on the band's official Facebook page:
"We have been kind of quiet recently so this is definitely time to give you some updates, isn't it?
"Indeed we have just recently finished composing our new album and are about to begin the recording sessions, starting with the drums on this Monday the 12th of December @ the Downtone Studio (Geneva) until we leave to Australia for touring next March. The mixing itself, supervised by Mr Rhys Fulber once again, should take place in April 2012 in L.A., and we will handle the artwork part to Seth Siro Anton (again as well).
"So far, we won’t reveal the tracking list itself (because, well, fuck, we decided so), but we can at least announce the title of this forthcoming LP, which will be called “God is an Automaton”.
"We will try to keep you updated this time through impromptu videos of recording failures, small suicidal notes from band members unable to nail some specific part, pictures of a disgruntled, exhausted guitar player who happen to also record the whole mess, and so on, until we are finally done with our new offspring.
"Stay (down)tuned. Sybreed"
