Atrocity Posts Album Update With Drummer Nijenhuis

German metal act Atrocity posted a Q&A with drummer Joris Nijenhuis, where he discussed the new album "Okkult." The album trilogy begins with part one on December 21, 2012, which is also the start of the global treasure hunt when one track from each of the three releases will be hidden within three continents starting with Europe in 2013.

The Q&A with Nijenhuis reads as follows:

Q: "How was it to record the new songs of ATROCITY?

"It’s very cool that I could finally play on a new Atrocity album. I joined the band in December 2011 and the drum recording sessions took place in the summer time for the new 'Okkult' album, so that’s pretty quick. I’m especially looking forward to play these songs live, so i can perform the songs on stage which I play on the 'Okkult' album myself."

Q: "How was your stay at Mastersound Studio, how did you like the the studio and to work with the Alex and the guys over there?

"The Mastersound studio is a very nice place to stay. The location is amazing and if you want to eat schnitzels, the XXL schnitzel place is pretty close to the studio. We usually start every morning with coffee and pretzels. After that I start warming up and then we start recording, sometimes till late in the evening.

"Working with Alex, Sander and Tosso is always very relaxed. I’m usually my own worst enemy with recording, I’m almost never satisfied with a take, there are always a few small things I’m not happy about. So sometimes it’s hard but I’m quite happy with the final results."

Q: "What can the fans expect from the new material?

"The new material is more brutal and darker then the last few Atrocity albums. I would compare it to the old Atrocity classics of the 90’s or 'Atlantis' but then better and more diverse. You can expect brutal drums and vocals, great riffs, very cool guitar soli and big bombastic orchestral parts with Horror-like atmosphere." More...

Repetitor Releases New Album

Moonlee Records is happy to present the second album “Dobrodošli na okean” by Serbian act Repetitor. The label also comments:

"The album delivers nine tracks of cross-genre ecstasy, packed in a powerful, rocking-your-guts-out interplay of instruments, vocals, and the distinctive wall of sound they create together. Attempts to find a direct musical influence may prove to be a difficult task, but an attentive listener will recognize similarities with variety of bands, from early Mudhoney, Šarlo Akrobata, Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Pixies and early Nirvana all the way to Black Sabbath or even Suicide. That may sound irreconcilable at first, but Repetitor does it with ease and brings a sonic experience that can hardly be more enjoyable. Heavy and high-energy blend of garage rock, post-punk and everything in between."

You can stream the album below or download it over at Bandcamp here. The track listing is:

1. Devojke idu u Minhen 02:25
2. Bicu bolji 02:09

Unearthing The Malaysian Metal Underground

Malaysia is a country that has really begun to make it's name known in the last few years. It's become a popular holiday destination, it has one of the most stable infrastructures in South East Asia and has become a major investing force in association football (soccer,) with Malaysian entrepeneurs buying into such football teams as Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City. But what is the music scene like in Malaysia? And more specifically, how is heavy metal treated there? A quick Google search will quickly bring up a BBC article from 2001, in which the Malaysian government declared a crack down on the genre. But there are still metal bands active in the constitutional monarchy, and this week we'll be looking at three of them.

First up is Humiliation, a band from the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur who provide an ear catching take on death metal, being influenced mostly by such British extreme metal pioneers as Benediction and Bolt Thrower. The group was formed in 2009 and spent three months recording their debut EP, "Face The Disaster," which was released in November that year through Nebiula Production. The next year, they were able to record and release their first full length effort, "Dawn Of Warfare," which (including an intro and an outro) contained a total of twelve tracks. Since then, the band has soldiered on, despite losing some members along the way, they have been able to continue writing new material, and released their second full length album, "Seek To Survive" in September of last year. The band has also branced out when it comes to touring, having recently played in such countries as Germany, Poland and Romania.

Tomahawk at Voodoo Fest

Since their debut album in 2001, Tomahawk has been a champion in the underground with their twangy riffs, bone crushing drum hits, eerie synth sounds, and the ever impressive crooning styles of Mike Patton. This indeed is a supergroup: John Stanier from Helmet on drums, Duane Denison of Jesus Lizard and USSA on guitar, Mike Patton from Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Peeping Tom, etc. not just singing, but using all kinds of distortions and keyboards. Blasphemic Cruelty Signs With Hells Headbangers

Hells Headbangers has announced the signing of both Blasphemic Cruelty and Perdition Temple. Both bands are helmed by guitarist Gene Palubicki, founder/songwriter of the legendary Angelcorpse. Palubicki had the following to say about both signings:

"Been a while since there has been any actual 'production' news concerning either of my active works, namely Perdition Temple and Blasphemic Cruelty. It is official at this point that both bands are no longer part of the Osmose Productions roster. It was not a bad split with my longtime former label, simply the direction the label and my bands are pursuing differs enough to make it time for a change.

"I'm quite happy to announce the new home for BOTH bands is Hells Headbangers Records! Of the several labels who contacted me and made various offers, Hells Headbangers clearly shares my vision for the course I wish to go for both bands. Hells Headbangers has a dedication to releasing the sort of products that are very much a best fit for my bands. In development currently are the sophomore full-length from Perdition Temple, and a forthcoming MLP of new Blasphemic Cruelty material."

Continuing, Palubicki says, "For lineups concerning both bands, I couldn't be more satisfied! In Perdition Temple I've got drummer Ronnie Parmer, whose been tearing it up with devilish precision with me for all the shows we've been doing for the last year now, as well as Gabriel Gozainy on bass, who completely shreds my riffs and gives our sound just that much more mayhem! And in a somewhat recent development, the lineup is now also joined by my former bandmate from past Angelcorpse times, Bill Taylor on second guitar! So on the forthcoming album, it will have been nearly 15 years ago that we both appeared on an album together [1998's Exterminate by Angelcorpse]! So the feeling going into this new is right where it needs to be! More...

Saxon Announces DVD's International Release

Saxon will be releasing the new album "Sacrifice" this coming February, and now the band has also posted the following announcement about an international release for the "Heavy Metal Thunder" movie:

"The silver eagle has finally landed for audiences worldwide! After enjoying a limited 'Fan Club Only' UK release, 'Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie,' Saxon's wonderfully unfiltered and intimate account of their ascent to the upper echelons of heavy metal, will finally enjoy an international release this December.

"Rivetingly honest, and including the frank memories of every musician who has played in the band, 'Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie' pieces together the earliest incarnations of Saxon, from frontman Biff Byford's teenage years in the coalmines of 'Yorkshire' and 'Son Of A Bitch' (the first incarnation of Saxon) all the way through to top 10 hits and world tours. Nothing is forsaken and nothing skipped. 'Heavy Metal Thunder – The Movie' will entertain, engage and charm fans and non-fans alike. That's a truth as honest as the film itself…

"The exclusive fan packages contain not only the Blu-Ray or 2 Disc-DVD, but also a Saxon 'Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie' T-Shirt! Order now online at UDR Shop or Digital Stores." More...

Conspires To... Splitting Album Into Two

Conspires To... has checked in with the following announcement about working on two upcoming albums (one metal, one mellow):

"So, straight after the release of 'Symbiosis' we dived into the writing process again, with no set direction or idea of what we wanted to do. The music came quickly and feel into two distinct camps, the more familiar blow torch to the face metal, and then songs with a more mellow, acoustic tinged edge them.

"It was obvious that these songs would not sit well together on one album, so the idea for two new albums was born. What order they arrive in will be down to which songs are finished first. There is no set plan, we will just continue to write and record until they are done. Rest assured though the songs will be worth the wait, and the mellow stuff shows a new side to Conspires To... hinted to on Diablo.

"We will keep you updated with progress, which track names etc as they get done. If you have n't already please download our new album 'Symbiosis' available now at iTunes."

You can also check out Conspires To... tracks available for streaming online through MySpace here.
