Matt Barlow of newly formed supergroup Ashes of Ares has issued the following announcement about the band canceling an upcoming live show:
"Brothers and Sisters...it is with deep regret that I must announce Ashes of Ares will not be performing at Rock Harvest this Saturday.
"I have been dealing with illness for the past week and it has not let up. I apologize to anyone who has planned to come to the show to see us, but I don't think that it would do anybody justice to have me croaking through our set.
"I hope that you guys can forgive me for this decision, but I promise to make it up to all of you soon. Thank you for your understanding."
Ashes of Ares is also confirmed to play at the upcoming 2013 edition of the Prog Power USA festival next September.
Newly signed to Basick Records, California's Dissipate is now finally seeing an official release for the "Tectonics" EP (reviewed here), which has gone through a variety of incarnations and previously garnered buzz online through YouTube streaming.
"Tectonics" officially drops November 20th in North America, and we will be hosting an exclusive premiere of all six tracks next week. In the mean time you can get better acquainted with Dissipate and the band's music through our recent interview with drummer Jeff Faria and vocalist Josh Foster.
In the interview below Jeff discusses the trials of sticking it out through lineup changes and disappointments before finally getting signed and the thrill of having Dissipate compared to a mixture of some of his own personal favorite bands: Deftones, Car Bomb, and Ion Dissonance. More...

The Convalescence has checked in with the following announcement about canceling upcoming tour dates:
"The Convalescence cancelled the North East leg of the current tour due to Hurricane Sandy; we are working diligently on re-booking the affected show cancellations for February/March 2013. In addition, prior to the affected dates, a band member misappropriated the use of funds to purchase a tour vehicle that could not be utilized for tour and as a result, resigned from the band without notice.
"The first show of the remaining tour dates was to be at The Limits in Nashville, TN, November 8th; however, the venue closed its doors last week. With the current tour dates approaching this week and five ‘off’ dates; the cost effectiveness directly related to travel expenditures regarding the remaining shows this weekend; we have cancelled the following dates to be rescheduled at a future date and time:
09 NOV 12 – The Soundstage – Conway, AR
10 NOV 12 – Hippy’s Nightlife – Texarkana, AR
11 NOV 12 – O’Reilly’s Pub – Dallas, TX
"Thank you for your patience relating to matters directly out of our control. We will be finishing off the remaining tour dates at this time, however, if any further unforeseen events occur; we will make an immediate release relating to any routing changes."
Apparitions, which signed to Indianola Records last month, has now checked in from the road with the following tour report:
"So I finally have a bit of time and the means by which post another update (thanks to Panera for the wifi and the coffee). Tonight is our last Florida show, which makes me happier than these three cups of coffee I've had. Not to talk negatively about Florida, but I'm really getting sick of re-enacting the battle scenes from Starship Troopers every time I get out of the van; the bugs here really are that monstrous and scary. Other than that, we've enjoyed our time here. After tonight, we head north to brave the cold.
"Yesterday, some friends of ours took us to Disneyworld, which was a welcome break from the usual daily grind of sleeping in parking lots and sponge baths in Walmart rest rooms. Notable highlights included me thoroughly schooling Alex on the Buzz Lightyear Star Command ride (my score was twice as high as his) and Brandon finally getting to experience his lifelong fear of being stuck on a roller coaster. We probably should have been more sympathetic, especially given his refusal to budge from a fetal position, but honestly, all I could do was laugh. I should note that this wouldn't have happened were it not for the efforts of some good friends of ours who work at the park, so to Alberto, Megan, and J.J., we give our very warm and heartfelt thanks.
"Also, I need to recap some of the last few shows: we'd like to thank It Lies Within for putting on killer shows every night and being awesome tour-mates, and I want to give props to Siege of Malakand, a band full of kids who put on one of the most jaw-droppingly brutal and aggressive metal shows we've ever seen. They killed it in Orlando a few nights ago and definitely stuck out among the bands we've played with on this tour.
"After tonight, we have a day off in my hometown before playing Swayze's on Friday, and we're understandably stoked for a day of rest."

"We have spent most of the spring to finish all the new songs for the new album!! You can expect some new powerful metal songs with a lot of tempo, smashing guitar and keyboard solos and guest appearance from some fantastic musicians – David Henriksson (former Insania (Stockholm)) is singing on one of the new tracks. If you don’t know him check out the great album ‘Sunrise in Riverland’ – a must have for all power metal fans!
"We have recorded all the songs for the new album – there will be 10, and the album has been named “II” (it’s our 2nd album ;-) ).
"Once again the songs have been recorded in Media Sound Studios in Copenhagen with the help of Peter Brander and Anders Overgaard. The songs are all fantastic and we can’t wait to share them with you! More...

Indie Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Cult of Luna, and as was previously announced, the new album “Vertikal” will be released on January 25th in G/A/S and January 29th worldwide, excluding North America.
The band had this to say about the making of the new studio album: ”The album will be released at the beginning of the year, and is thematically influenced by the film ‘Metropolis’: a hypnotic backdrop of machinery and repetition. Before we started writing we were keen to find a theme that in a very direct way could be shown through the music, and we hope to have achieved this. We developed clear structures – very linear, refusing to over complicate the writing process."
Cult of Luna was formed in 1998 in Sweden and released a self-titled debut album three years later. In 2003 Cult of Luna released the album “The Beyond,” which led to the band's first European tour as support for Isis, Poison the Well, and Dillinger Escape Plan. A massive European tour followed and not long after the group got a support slot for the one and only Mastodon in the U.S. in 2005.
The band released “Somewhere Along The Highway” in 2007 and won a rock/metal award from the Swedish Radio channel P3 “for the will and courage to expand and bring new dimensions to the metal genre.” One year later Cult of Luna released “Eternal Kingdom” and in 2011 the band finally began working on what was to become the new album “Vertikal."

The song comes off the band's most recent album, “X.” The clip is due out next week – keep your eyes open! You can also check out our recent interview with the band at this location.
Singer Jyrki69 comments, “It’s like our 'Love Me Tender' – a soft, timeless ballad. But it also has that dark, mystic Southern vibe (some said “True Blood”), so naturally we had to go to Louisiana to shoot the video! Mark Twain’s books, Elvis’ 'King Creole,' 'Easy Rider,' blues, jazz, voodoo, vampires - so many reasons for The 69 Eyes go to N’awlins. We’ve played there twice, I’ve hosted two DJ club nights there called 'Fangtasia' over the last two summers. The leading rock/metal video director of these latter days, Swedish Patric Ullaeus was also interested in coming to NOLA to make this masterpiece, so all was set for it! The mid-October was perfect for a long-lost weekend in the South."

Cold, grim and strangely uplifting a must have for fans of Gris, Paysage D’Hiver, Burzum, Velvet Cacoon, Trist, and Neige Et Noirceur. A frozen, ambient masterpiece..." More...
Hailing from Malta, Victims of Creation is the newest member of the Cyclone Empire family. Victims of Creation describes its style as a very heavy, down-tuned sound, carrying both the old-school doom/death metal and slow sludgy elements.
The band has already been announced for the Doom Shall Rise Festival 2013, along with a new album coming by April 2013. Cyclone Empire also commented on the band's history:
"Victims of Creation is a Maltese band, was conceived in 1992 and debuted on stage in 1994 supporting local band Oblique Visions on the launch of their debut CD. In 1996, the song 'Lotions & Potions (Toke 1)' was included in 'The Core of Creation,' a local compilation released by Storm Records. The song did not reflect the band’s style at the time, however, it was very well acclaimed specifically for its originality. The launch of this compilation was the second and last gig of the band for some time.
"Turbulent times, unlucky circumstances and various set-backs saw Dino and Rex (the remaining founding members of the band) experimenting with different guitarists during sporadic jammings. It seemed that Victims of Creation would never rise from the ashes. More...
To celebrate Black (Metal) Friday, Century Media Records will re-issue two classic titles: Borknagar's "The Olden Domain" and Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas."
Limited to 1,000 copies each, these titles will be available only at your local independent music store starting on Friday, November 23rd. To find a participating store near you, please check out this location. Century Media Records also commented:
"The Olden Domain is Borknagar's second studio album, and their first to feature English lyrics. It also marks the beginning of the band's transition to their trademark progressive/folk/black metal sound featured on later records. This would be the band's last studio album to feature Garm (credited on this album as 'Fiery G. Maelstrom') on vocals. It is also their first album to feature Kai K. Lie on bass, replacing Infernus.
"Songwriting for De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas began as early as 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per 'Dead' Ohlin and murder of guitarist Øystein 'Euronymous' Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May of 1994. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is widely considered to be one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. Now available as a deluxe double LP in gatefold packaging with bonus poster, the darkness continues to bleed forth."

Holland’s death metal monarchs Sinister have now announced a North American release for eleventh studio full-length, "The Carnage Ending," via Massacre Records this November 27th. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Since 1988, the pulverizing Sinister has inundated the international death metal scene with a plethora of full-length albums, EPs, notable demos and splits amidst continuous festival performances and international touring with everyone from Suffocation to Cannibal Corpse to Deicide to Rotting Christ. Their 1992 debut full-length Cross The Styx remains a landmark album for the Dutch death scene, and notable albums like 1995’s Hate, 1998’s Aggressive Measures and 2006’s Afterburner have continually kept the band’s name in a well-respected spot over countless inferior acts.
"Despite numerous member changes and revamping of the lineup over the years, the band called it quits for several years in the mid-‘90s only to be resurrected by original vocalist Aad Kloosterwaard reformed the band in 2006. The band released Afterburner, their final album for Nuclear Blast, and signed with Massacre Records as their new label home. In 2011 Adrie was left alone and formed a brand new Sinister lineup, and recruited his allies in project band Absurd Universe, the new members having already proven their skills through acts like Supreme Pain, Consolation, Unlord, Putrefied, Lunatics without Skateboards and many more.
"The new lineup went back to the band’s roots and came up with ten brand new but old-school, modern-sounding pieces for their latest effort. The newest bloodbath in Sinister’s venerable twenty-three year history, and third album for Massacre Records, The Carnage Ending destroys anything in earshot with a potent and massive sixty-six minute dosage of the band’s respected and straightforward style, crushingly captured at Soundlodge Studio with Jörg Uken (God Dethroned, Dew-Scented, Defloration, etc.)." Last time around I covered Manilla Road’s uber-manly efforts in the world of metal covers. This time we are back and taking a look at the New York heavy metal legends Riot, their “unique” approach to album covers, and honouring the legacy of mastermind Mark Reale who sadly passed away in January this year. Well, we’ll largely just be tearing into Riot’s cover art, but it goes without saying that Riot created some of the best power/speed metal in existence. Seriously, I’m putting a ban on reading this article until you’ve at least heard one track from “Thundersteel” because it’s one of the greatest metal classics ever released. Right? Right, let’s get cracking. More...
