Glasgow thrash band DieMentia is streaming it's recent release, "Tears of Blood," online while the members of the band compose new material and recruit another bassist. The band is currently number four on the ReverbNation metal charts in the U.K.
Other than battling dust devils and a short Misfits set, Austin’s sixth annual Fun Fun Fun Fest lived up to its name in the variety of activities it offered to patrons. Local acts to artists from across the world graced four stages catering to a variety of music styles. Rap, metal, electronic, funk, punk were just a few of the genres covered. Those with narrow musical tastes benefited best due to the long walks between stages, especially from the entrance to the Black Stage that hosted most of the heavy acts.
While the music of Fun Fun Fun Fest took center stage, those who wanted to rest their ears could watch comedy and wrestling at the Yellow Stage. The festival’s layout resembled a carnival with tents and trailers serving up the best of local cuisine. Even though few wore the traditional Texas-cowboy garb, bar the handkerchiefs for dust relief, one could experience a simulated rodeo experience on the back of a mechanical bull. Other tents were a gateway to video games. The PIP and Media areas were a maze of mesh walls and tents that offered smaller beer and rest room lines. The media tent featured special interview areas containing an influx of celebrities. Bewildered continence graced the faces of those witnessing film crews follow around celebrities in the creation of who-knows-what type of productions. Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling made camera-hawked, back-stage appearances.
Friday’s lineup offered little in the way of metal, so I spent much of this day exploring the festival and hanging out in the media tent. Blake Anderson, the long, curly-haired slacker on Comedy Central’s “Workaholics” approached the tent with a lover of some sort. I directed the two towards the Heineken beer tent. Decked out in a fake mullet and mustache, Sergio “The Sexy Sax Man” Flores also frequented the media tent. He was scheduled to serenade a wedding at the festival. Even though his sax only produces the romantic notes of George Michael, he confessed his love for metal. He told me a story bringing the brass to death metal when he joined his friends The Faceless on stage. He dove into the crowd, creating fireplace harmonies before accidentally falling and cracking his head on the floor. More...

Drummer John Kurucz of Canadian based death/thrash band Gross Misconduct has checked in with the following update about the release of a new album:
"We are beyond stoked to announce that our new album will be released on Friday, November 11 through our website and various online channels (iTunes, CD Baby, etc.) The album is called The Disconnect. It contains nine songs and runs just shy of 50 minutes.
"We had Neil Kernon mix the album and Alan Douches master it. It goes without saying that their reputations precede both of them, and we're extremely happy with the job they did.
"As far as the musical direction goes, The Disconnect hints at our 2007 debut, The Process of Indoctrination, while pushing things a lot further. We've grown a lot as musicians and as songwriters in the last four years, and The Disconnect is a reflection of that fact.
"We've released a song off of The Disconnect called Our First Perversion, and it's available on our Facebook page, located here.
"We will be releasing a new video for the lead track on our album, a song called Of Redemption, within the next week. But in the meantime, here's a video we made last summer for Abaddon, a track off The Process on Indoctrination." More...

Every week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we take a look at three quality bands that haven't gotten as much exposure yet as they should. For as long as there has been rock music, a scene has existed in this Western European country, but many have struggled to gain international stardom, with death metal outfit Gojira probably being the most well known French band in metal today. This week we'll be looking at three bands from France who are out to prove that, contrary to popular belief, the French can throw down just as hard as anybody else.
Formed in 2007 by guitarist and self-proclaimed orchestrator Vynce Leff and recorded their debut EP, "Daughter Of The Night" just six months afterwards, instantly receiving acclaim wherever it was heard and even earned them the titles of Best French Band of 2008 by Metalsymphonique.com and Best EP from HeavyLaw.com. They split with their vocalist last year but were able to find security in December when they recruited Clémentine Delauney to stand behind the microphone.

Montreal's Derelict has checked in with the following statement about the lyrics for the "Pirates" track:
"Hi guys, Eric here. This is another post in our series about the meanings behind our lyrics. This time, I’m covering ‘Pirates.' There is no denying that these are the silliest lyrics I’ve ever written for Derelict.
"I wrote a bit about the novel 'Odinn’s Child' by Tim Severin in my ‘Summoning the Firestorm’ post, and this song was inspired by that book as well. The main character ends up on a Viking expedition to North America around the year 1,000, before it was discovered by the European empires hundreds of years later. (Interestingly enough, there are further theories that other Europeans had been to America even before the Vikings. Read into about that here.) More...
After previously posting the song "Teutonic Terror" online, the Brazilian heavy metal band Warfire has now released a new song from the "It's time to War" EP. You can check out "B.T.K." in the player below. The band also commented:
"We are growing fast...our music has been well received not only in Brazil, but in Europe, Asia and North America. Its great to see how things are going so fast this year (2011). We are working hard everyday to make sure we go out on tour and record the whole album in the next year."
"We know the challenges of making heavy metal actually, so we work hard to present a quality music to our audience. The EP is a great tool to show our work and to get the public reaction to our sound. The positive feedback show that we are in the right path..."
Indian metal band Blind Image has announced that due to visa issues the group's frontman, Noble Luke, is unable to perform on an upcoming tour of Australia. Filling in for him will be David Hart who fronts Australian experimental/technical metal trio Kunvuk.
Blind Image drummer/percussionist Krish previously commented on the impending Australian tour: “We have the privilege of being the first Indian metal band to hit the AUS shores and it will be an interesting experience to play along with some really quality bands from Australia such as Dawn Heist, Kunvuk and Humonic. Can’t wait for it."
Kunvuk will also be performing alongside Blind Image in Canberra and Sydney.
Kunvuk recently announced that the band has signed to Deadsets Promotions for a multi territory deal booking agreement encompassing Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. The band is also currently working on the follow-up to debut album “Immute: Jackals."
Cleveland's Breaker reunited with original vocalist Jim Hamar on November 5th supporting Anvil at the West Side Masonic Temple in Cleveland, Ohio. Hamar performed a surprise and unannounced full set with the band for the first time in 10 years. Photos from the show are available here.
“There was no official announcement about the reunion,” says Auburn Records president Bill Peters. “We wanted to keep the pressure off and the show low-key since this was Jim’s first time back singing live in a very long time. Jim has also had a lot of personal family issues to deal with concerning his mom’s health. It has been a very stressful time for him. Very few people knew he would be performing. In fact, my Team Auburn crew who worked the show did not even know until the band hit the stage. They were just as surprised as the fans. A person from my video crew did not recognize Jim and asked me who the new singer was? He said he really liked him and that he sounded a lot like the original guy!”
Breaker formed in 1982 and, along with Destructor and Shok Paris, has been an anchor of the Auburn Records label roster. Hamar appeared on the band’s “Blood Money” single (1983) and “Get Tough!” album (1987), as well as several compilation, live and EP releases. The band performed at the 2000 Wacken Open Air festival in Germany with Hamar. Greg Wagner (H.A.T.E.) had been the band’s current singer since Hamar’s departure in 2001.
Breaker was scheduled to reunite in 2008 as one of the feature bands at the Bang Your Head!!! festival in Balingen, Germany but Hamar suddenly and unexpectedly developed voice problems during band rehearsals and was forced to cancel. Breaker ended up performing at the festival with Wagner on vocals. More...

U.S. grindcore band Cattle Decapitation issued the following update on the recording of the band's new LP:
"In November 2010, Cattle Decapitation returned home from headlining The California Blood Tour and decided to take the next year off and immediately began writing the follow up to their critically-acclaimed 2009 release The Harvest Floor.
"The band has been holed up in the confines of their rehearsal studio in National City, California ever since and are preparing to unleash a new slab of human-dissecting carnage for a Spring 2012 release via Metal Blade Records. The band will be recording in January/February in Denver, Colorado at FLATLINE AUDIO with producer/engineer DAVE OTERO (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Trivium) and will play a small handful of shows on the way out to Denver showcasing their new material.
"Artist WES BENSCOTER is again on board to deliver more breathtaking GOREgeousness to the album cover as he has done on our past 4 releases. We will be announcing the album title, cover image and concept in the next few months.
"Here’s what guitarist Josh Elmore has to say about the new material:
'As it comes down to the home stretch before recording, we have been focusing on getting the last two songs written as well as refining and tightening the tracks which are already completed. The overwhelming impression I get from this new batch of tunes is that they have benefitted greatly from a more streamlined approach to composition and song structure. A lot of these songs are very "to-the-point" with just enough embellishment to keep them dynamic, whilst avoiding sinking into some bells-and-whistles mire. Lean and mean.
'There will be no forays in 8-string djentiness and none of us bought v-neck shirts or deck shoes to 'modernize' our sound and look, respectively. Expect some riffy, ripping blackened deathgrind with nods to our past work and tastes of what's to come. These songs are going to be a blast to play live and we are anxious to have these recorded and get on the road to play them for you.'
"The band’s friend who simply goes by the tag "T-R3X" has provided a quick teaser video available below showing the band hard at work on new material! That video is available now on Cattle Decapitation's official youtube channel here.
T"he band will be playing a ton of new material as well as some old gems at the following shows on their way out to the recording destination:
1/4/2012 – PHOENIX, AZ @ The Clubhouse
1/5/2012 – ALBUQUERQUE, NM @ The Launchpad
1/6/2012 – DENVER, CO @ The Marquis Theater"

Metal Underground.com caught up with Jimmy Bower backstage at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2011. The Eyehategod guitarist and Down drummer updated us on his two bands' upcoming albums and tours.
"Yeah, we’re almost done," answers Bower on the topic of the new Eyehategod album. "We’ve pretty much have gotten it written. We’re just trying to practice it and get it tight. We’re hoping for the first of the year (for release). Basically, we just have to record it. Brian [Patton] lives in Maryland, now, so that makes it a little tougher. Mike [Williams] lives across the lake."
Bower addresses new song titles, "We played one song tonight, 'New Orleans is the New Vietnam.' There is a (new) song called 'Medicine Noose,"
Bower will join Down on tour and will see the release of the group's new EP in 2011. Bower elaborates, "We just finished our first EP out of four. That should be out in February or March." Bower did not attach any profound concepts to releasing four EPs: "It’s just an idea that we had."
The forthcoming Eyehategod album follows the group's 2004 EP "99 Miles of Bad Roads." The Fun Fun Fest performance was part of a mini-tour through New Orleans and Texas. The upcoming Down EP follows the group's 2007 full-length effort, "III-Over the Under."

"I and the whole band have put even more effort on this album than never before and I'm sure that this new album is going to be best AD album so far...Some songs on this album are propably best that I've ever composed and there's also one instrumental song on this album, which I wrote in 1992 and it was supposed to be released on some Rock Opera project. Unfortunaly this project never happened due some unfortunate happenings. But now, after 20 years, this one song is going to be released. All other songs are new and are not covered with dust ;)
