Mastodon is one of those bands that emerges very rarely. You know how big they are about to become when you listen to them. After listening to their latest album, "Crack the Skye," I was blown away by the musical effect it had on me. Just listening to "The Czar" with the lights turned off, right before I go to bed, evokes this mystical atmosphere and hypnagogic hallucinations right before I go to sleep.
When I heard they were touring with High on Fire and Converge, and co-headlining with Dethklok, I could not pass up the opportunity to get tickets and try to get an interview with Bill Kelliher, the rhythm guitarist. Needless to say, the interview went off without a hitch, and their performance was mesmorizing as they played the whole "Crack the Skye" album without a moment's pause and also with the out-of-body images projected to create a truly memorable experience. It’s really bad and I wish our friends and fans all the best with their health during this season. I have seen a doctor and am on medication and anticipate a speedy recovery. My sincerest apologies to all the fans for this inconvenience but I look forward to seeing you all in December when we return. Belgian metallers Psalm have issued the following update about streaming new songs online and recording a new album:
"The Beast has awakened. Psalm got tired of doing their thing in solitary confinement: now the time has come to take it a step further. The band entered 'Blackout Multimedia Studio' (Brussels) on September 26 & 27, 2009 to record 2 brand new tracks with Phorgath of the mighty Enthroned! These tracks are to be considered as a pre-production of Psalm’s upcoming effort, which release is planned for 2010. Thee songs are now available on the band’s Myspace page. We’d like to thank Phorgath for his kindness and great work.
"Other news: Psalm has recorded the new tracks as a four-unit. After some months of hesitation, Algol has decided to leave the band . There is no animosity whatsoever between Algol and the rest of the band, we are obviously not happy with this decision but accept it with respect and resignation. We would like to thank Algol for his work, his input and his good humour through all times, and we definitely wish him the best of luck for the future.
"Thankfully, Psalm is a very lucky band. A few days after Algol’s departure, we have found a replacement for him. His name is Jeffrey Tallane, he’s an old friend of ours and has played in Ex-Nihil before. Jeff is a very highly skilled musician and composer and has an open mind for extreme music. He is most certainly the perfect choice for Psalm and we can’t wait for him to join us! More...
