Grave Parts Ways With Drummer

Swedish death metal legends Grave has confirmed that they have parted company with drummer Ronnie Bergerstål after ten years with the band. There had been rumours circulating that Bergerstål was no longer a part of the group and subsequently, Grave has issued the following statement:

"To set the record straight.

"There has been circulating rumours about our drummer and why he has not been with us on all shows this year.

"We are unhappy to inform you that we have parted ways with our drummer Ronnie Bergerstål.
After being a part of Grave for more than 10 years he will surely leave a big hole that needs to be filled.

"This is not the place to discuss or speculate about why we have decided to part ways"

"We wish you all the best Ronnie.

Thrashback Thursday: Toxic Waltz

This week in Thrashback Thursday, we're more than living up to the column's name with a look back at one of America's greatest thrash metal bands and possibly best American metal bands in general; Exodus. Exodus were legends in the Bay Area of California before they even released an album, earning a fierce live reputation thanks not only to the break neck speed of their music but their bombastic lead singer Paul Baloff. In 1983, founding guitarist Kirk Hammett left to replace Dave Mustaine in Metallica and bandmate Gary Holt (also guitarist) took creative control of the group, eventually settling on Rick Hunolt as Hammett's replacement. After their legendary debut album, "Bonded By Blood," they parted ways with Paul Baloff and brought in Steve "Zetro" Souza, formerly of Legacy, now known as Testament.

The prospect of replacing Baloff was a daunting one but Souza proved his worth on the band's sophomore album, "Pleasures of the Flesh," which was not met with much critical or commercial fanfare, but then with "Fabulous Disaster" in 1989, thanks largely to the single, "Toxic Waltz." "Toxic Waltz" sums up not only the appeal of Exodus, but of thrash metal as a whole.

It begins with a slam and a catchy riff, leading into a frenzied assault of sonic madness, yet structured enough to make every part of the track memorable. The lyrics are corny, but fun in the most 80s of ways and delivered perfectly by Souza in his inimitable shriek, accompanied by gang vocals and one of the catchiest chouruses in the history of thrash metal and subsequently, one of its greatest songs. Lawnmower Deth To Release Christmas Single

British thrash metal favourites Lawnmower Deth has announced that they have teamed up with pop star Kim Wilde to release a new single in time for the holidays, entitled, "F U Kristmas." The song will be released on December 1st through Wildflower Records. While it may sound like a strange partnership, the East Midlands group caught the attention of Wilde when they released a cover of her hit song, "Kids In America" in 1991, which she claimed was her favourite rendition of the track. She also joined Lawnmower Deth on stage at Download festival last year and claims that after that, a collaboration was inevitable.

The project is hoping to reach the coveted Christmas number one spot in the U.K., though bookmaker William Hill is offering odds of 25/1 on it happening. Wilde has previously add festive success however, when she worked with comedian Mel Smith on a rendition of "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" in 1987, which reached number three in the singles chart and raised money for the Comic Relief charity.

Wilde stated: "Lawnmower Deth came up with the idea of us collaborating on a Christmas tune and I said yes immediately, feeling our worlds had become inextricably linked."

Lawnmower Deth vocalist Pete Lee claims that the single is "the greatest project we’ve been involved in" and added: "Working on a Christmas single together, some would say it’s the most bizarre juxtaposition since KLF and Extreme Noise Terror at the Brit Awards. I prefer a bunch of loveable chancers married with pure pop royalty." More...
