Black metallers Hoarfrost have issued the following recap of their EP release show and announcement about upcoming activity:
"It would appear that Old Father Winter is looking upon Winnipeg in a favourable light, since the first skiff of snow fell only just last night - well over a month late. Why, up until last week, geese were still only beginning to make their way south, which is indeed quite strange. I wonder if the bears have even begun to hibernate, or if it's not quite cold enough yet? More on the subject of ‘hibernation’ later.
"This past Saturday, HOARFROST had the distinguished honour of releasing our debut EP in front of our - to be completely frank - fucking awesome fans and friends (aka The Frost Legion) at CFR Church in Osborne Village. The night was a resounding success, with something like 50+ CDs sold and a subsequent inundation of support and positive feedback from those in attendance. You guys are awesome! Special thanks (as always) to our gracious host Bill Gillis from CFR as well as Grand Master (the grand masterminds behind this show) and Armoured Assault (our iron-clad body-guards and show openers). I don't recall a moment there wasn't a mosh pit during out set! More...

Strange Flesh has issued the following update about recording new material starting in early December:
"First and foremost, from Strange Flesh and crew to all of you-Happy Thanksgiving and be safe in those annual riots called black Friday. Just an announcement to say that this coming Tuesday, the ol' fleshers will start drum pre-production and we're expected to officially start recording Saturday, Dec. 5th. We bought heaters for the new studio and with a favorable December, we expect to have the drums done in a week or so. Then rhythm guitars (2 per side, layered and panned at 100 and 80 percent). Then bass. Then acoustic, harmony, and lead guitars. Finally vocals and backups. Its gonna be a killer album and after we get it finalized, we'll start booking shows (local/regional/national). Guitarist auditions will ramp up after the holidays. Thanks."
I've avoided writing any sort of giving thanks Thanksgiving message for years, but since we're doing more personal op-eds and columns these days, I figured "why the hell not." Besides, I really am thankful for all who have helped me along this 8+ year journey of Metalunderground.com, directly and indirectly.
While the music industry is often reviled, there are a lot of people working their asses off for sub-executive level salaries to make stuff happen for the bands. Nine times out of ten, publicists are the ones who get us set up with exclusive coverage and access to the bands themselves, all the while juggling a million things at once. I can relate. Thank you all for working with us on so many mutually rewarding and beneficial projects, and for your patience when things are sometimes slow moving or hard to nail down (because you know how swamped we are too probably), and being cool people to work with.
We've got a killer staff this year - the best staff ever - who have helped bring you all the latest news daily, review tons of releases, gain more insight into bands through interviews and show reports, and help you discover new music with some of our latest columns and countless other ways. We've added many excellent writers and our senior staffers have all been steadily improving their writing over time, even those who are not writers by trade. So thanks to all of you for your efforts and making this site better than I ever imagined and of a quality that I am proud.
We only get to work with or speak to a fraction of the bands we cover, but bands are central to everything we do. Checking out thousands of bands can be tedious work, but in the end, the bands we get to chat with, see live, and the many bands that connect with our musical tastes and sense of discovery give us the inspiration to continue doing what we do day in and day out. We love metal and without the bands, successful or underground, there would be nothing to write about and enjoy as we do now. Thanks for inspriring us and creating the music that we enjoy and plays such a big role in our lives.
The Metalunderground.com Community
Thanks to everyone who comes here to read our articles, interact in our little community, and aid others in discovering more great metal bands and music.
I'm very thankful for all the people who have helped make this journey an enjoyable one, providing the help and encouragement to continue all these years and many more.
And to those who celebrate it in the U.S. or abroad, have a safe and metal Thanksgiving.

New Jersey black metal band Mortum has issued the following update on their MySpace page regarding their upcoming EP, album, and new songs:
"We just uploaded two new tracks, 'Lost and Empty' and 'Prophesizing the Fall of Mankind.' These songs have been on the page before but these are newly-recorded versions that will be on our upcoming EP 'Beyond Which Darkness Holds Secret... Hopefully to be released in early 2010."
"We decided to re-record our EP from last year due to some errors in the recordings themselves. Originally we planned on recording our full length album 'Awakening of the Primordial Spirit' but decided to go for an EP instead. However the Awakening title will be used for our debut full length." Hour Of Penance are currently in the processing of recording their new album for a 2010 release through Unique Leader Records. Guitarist Guilio Moschini commented on the album:
"Hour of Penance will complete tracking of their new album at 16th Cellar Studios in Rome and in the next days the band will start mixing at the same studio. Just thought it was time to give you guys an update regarding what's going on in the Hour of Penance camp. We've finally finished tracking all the instruments for the new album and we will start mixing it at the end of this week with Stefano Morabito at the mixing desk. Production-wise this album is already beyond what we have done with 'The Vile Conception,' so we're definitely satisfied with the results we're achieving so far and I'm sure you will be with me once you'll hear it! Once we have finished with the mixing we will send the new album to the Hertz Studios in Poland, where legendary bands like Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader and Hate have worked, for the mastering...easy to say that we're thrilled to work with the guys of Hertz studios, and we're sure that this will help the album to sound even better. Expect a killer Hour of Penance album to be released in 2010!"
Live video footage has been posted online of Mantic Ritual performing the song "Souls" with new vocalist/guitarist Dave Watson. The video clip can be viewed below. "Souls" is off the band's 2009 debut album "Executioner."
Mantic Ritual guitarist Jeff Potts commented: “‘Souls’ has been a standard in our set list and it's really grown on us since we started touring a lot this year. The song originally debuted 3 years ago in a VFW in Monaca, near Pittsburgh in February of 2006. While it was written before Dave [Watson] joined the band, he did mix the first demo of it [when the band was still called Meltdown]. We have two new songs in our live set. One is called ‘The Faceless God’ and the other is ‘Descent To Dawn.’ We also have a new cover song in our arsenal! Showing that we can write and play better than ever is important. Also, we just feel that it's been far too long since we've had some new material in the set. We've all had some ideas lately and we're excited to get back into writing mode.” More...
Swedish extreme metallers Shining have completed work on their seventh album and have revealed the cover artwork. Scheduled for release on Indie Recordings in March/April 2010, the 6-track album will have the title “Shining VII - FÖDD FÖRLORARE” (Born Loser). The track listing is as follows:

According to founder and front man Niklas Kvarforth (Skitliv), with “Född Förlorare” Shining will “take a deep dive into the darkest of all musical genres you could imagine." Making guest appearances on the album are Erik Danielsson (Watain), Peter Bjargo (Arcana), and Nordman.
