Sweden's Carnivore recently signed to Abyss Records and is planning to enter the studio in December to record it's first full-length album, due sometime next year. Plans are in place for the label to reissue the band's recent EP "Faces of Death" in early 2012. That EP is currently streaming on the band's SoundCloud page.
Here's a taste:
Google’s masterplan to compete with everyone is becoming more apparent with its latest releases. Having just opened up Google+ pages, which is equivalent to Facebook pages, the search giant has now taken the beta tag off of Google Music and opened its doors to bands to sell their music on the Android Marketplace, which will compete with iTunes.
Google Music first opened in a beta testing phase to test their cloud storage and streaming service. The cloud will be the backbone for the music store, acting like a digital locker where all music purchases are saved. More...
Montreal brass metal act Fallstaf already has a unique take on metal to begin with, but throw in the fact that the band's trombone player is a masked hitman and you've got a recipe for some serious metal mayhem.
Fallstaf recently released its debut full-length album "Bastard Sons of a Pure Breed" (reviewed here), and in support of the release I got the chance to engage The Hitman in conversation to find out the low down on brass metal and the Montreal metal scene. Check out the full interview below. More...

"Recently BareBonesMusic.com got a chance to sit down with Shawn Cameron (drums) and Cory Arford (guitar) of CARNIFEX on tour for their new record 'UNTIL I FEEL NOTHING' (Victory). Shawn and Cory talk to Evil G. about the new record, fans reactions, touring, producer Tim Lambesis and engineer David Castleman, some of their favorite songs to play live, how they were itching to get back on the road and tour after finishing their new record and much, much more. PLUS LIVE performance footage!"
Florida based act Black Sun Alchemy has posted a video clip online of the band's performance at The Monterey Club in Fort Lauderdale, FL. You can watch the footage below, or find more songs available online for streaming through the Black Sun Alchemy Facebook profile or official website here.

Multi-instrumental virtuoso Paul Antonio Ortiz, aka Chimp Spanner, will be releasing the new "All Roads Lead Here" EP on February 6th, 2012 via Basick Records. In addition to the CD and digital formats, a strictly limited edition clear transparent vinyl version will be available, with the exclusive addition of the "Supereroremix" EP.
"All Roads Lead Here" features six new tracks, which in true Chimp style, range from the luscious and beautiful to the twisted and sinister, with the stunning three-part centrepiece "M?bius" showing off his immense talent for gripping arrangements. And as expected, the EP flows like a groove driven atmospheric sci-fi soundtrack, as Paul himself explains:
"I'm really happy with how the EP turned out! It was kind of hard at first to find a sound that progressed and evolved nicely from At The Dream's Edge', but I think making some of the songs a bit darker helped to set them apart from all the glossy futurism of the previous album. The three part song, 'M?bius', is still spacey and sci fi inspired (as you can tell from the awesome artwork by Daniel Wagner), but it's also got some more personal themes going on too. I hope you guys enjoy this record - I can't wait to get out there and play it!"
Chimp Spanner will hit the road throughout Europe with Cynic in December. Dates are as follows:
Sat 03.12.11 The Village, Dublin, Ireland.
Sun 04.12.11 Limelight, Belfast, UK.

"Whisper," the new album from Chicago metallers Dark Spectrum, has been available as a free
download online. The CD was recorded at Apothica Studios in Batavia, Illinois. Joe Tiberi of Mechina once again handled production and recording duties, as well as the mixing and mastering. You can download "Whisper" by clicking here.
The track listing is as follows:
2. The Soil Is Shour
3. Perplexed In Chaos
5. Blood Of The Lambs
Commented Dark Spectrum bassist Thatcher Markham: "The plan was to put this on our Reverb Nation page for download as well but they want money for that and I see no reason to pay money just to give away our songs for free...
"But here it is, Pirate Bay has it, MegaUpload has it. Download it, check it out, hopefully enjoy it and pass it around, burn it, whatever. You may have never heard of us before, we may not have ever had the record deal with a label or been able to really tour, but none of that matters now. The production, mix, mastering, and especially the quality of the song writing, they easily stand against any band on any label that we listen to and admire. I truly believe that, as do the rest of us.
Commented drummer Nick Whitmore: "Making Whisper was one of the most enlightening experiences in my life. The music speaks for itself, it's a real power coming into it's own sound and displaying a message that makes it, in my mind, a one of a kind work of art. DARK SPECTRUM was a journey of great success in my opinion, the release of this album the final proof. In my parting words of Whisper and DARK SPECTRUM; please listen to our album as a one time experience into a world that was built and and destroyed, so like the theme Whisper in itself was written about."

Day one of The Goregrowler’s Ball came and went without any hitches. Day two promised even more gore-gurgling delights. This day started earlier than Friday’s 5:30 start time. Originally scheduled for a 1:30 start time, the promoter pushed the start time back to 2:30. Prog death artists, Vex took this early slot, which we unfortunately missed. Comatose Records was on full display, as it was throughout the weekend, with Atrocious Abnormality. Said band played a brutal slab of unmerciful, brutal death metal featuring label head, Steve Green.
Ibex Moon Records, owned by John McEntee of Incantation, also made its presence known on the second day. Cardiac Arrest produced grimy, churning death metal in the vein of Autopsy and Grave. The Chicago act switched between rotten-limb-stiffening slow jams and all-out-blast fests provided by new drummer Nick Gallichio. Adam Scott, Tom Knizner, Dave Holland joined low and mid-range scathing voices to narrate grisly tales from the group’s three recordings. Set highlights include the frantic pace of “Insanity’s Grip,” and the ominous, full-moon-blooming groove of “Affliction of the Beast.”
Fellow Ibex Moon label and former tour mates, Hod took the hell-raising chaos outside. Hod was in fine form, performing its perfected blend of death, thrash, black, speed and all-things-metal (“We’re Hod and we play fucking metal”) style. The Central Texas act showcased material from its sole album, “Serpent.” The said album has been out for two years, so one would expect new material. Locals familiar with Hod knew the band well, so their new songs came without surprise. However, those from out of town delighted in hearing new tracks such as “Den of Wolves.” Look for a new record in 2012. More...

Montreal act Derelict has been posting a series of lyric explanation blogs online via the band's official website. Derelict has now checked in with the following statement about the "Xenocide" track:
"Hello, Eric here. This is another Behind The Lyrics article. I’ve been moving through the Unspoken Words album with these posts, and up next is Xenocide.
"Xenocide is actually the only Derelict song that features lyrical contributions from another member. Our old guitar player Daryl and I used to talk a lot about religion and war, particularly the Israel/Palestine situation. We decided to write a song about what it takes for people to go to war and view their opponents not as people like themselves, but as entities entirely separate and deserving only of death.
"Although I knew much less about the conflict than I do now, I tried to make sure the lyrics could be read from the perspective of either side, or in fact from the perspective of any side fighting any war. The last line particularly applies to religious war, in which people view their cause as entirely just and holy, and their opponent’s cause as demonic and fundamentally wrong.
"If you’re interested in these kinds of issues, check out this interesting documentary about religious conflict on VICE.com, 'The Vice Guide to Belfast.'"

Over the past few weeks the band Kid Rocker has filed lawsuit against the band Poison for allegedly stealing songs originally written by Kid Rocker (band was broke up and presented the songs to C.C. as members of the band Screamin’ Mimis). Video (at the bottom) has surfaced, showing the bands riff for what would later become an alleged Poison hit. My opinion: given this alleged theft occurred over 20 years ago I find the timing suspicious. No word yet as to why wait until now to bring the lawsuit. The songs include “Talk Dirty to Me”, “Fallen Angel”, and “I Won’t Forget You.” What a perfect time to celebrate the video for “Talk Dirty to Me”; a made for MTV spectacle that started it all for the glam conglomerate we would come to know as Poison. Full Disclaimer: I was twelve and a big fan of this video when it came out. Did it shape my life in any way? Still working through this twice a week in therapy. More...

" 'Lacrima Mortis' is another glimpse into the darker side of my musical persona: a thick slab of epic doom metal dealing with the subject of death and its repercussions. I've worked on it feverishly for the past year and to my mind it surpasses 2009's 'Burden Of Grief' in every way. I hope you'll agree!"
