Amalgama has issued the following update about the band's upcoming activity:
"Winter arrived here in upstate New York a few weeks ago. While technically the season doesn't start until just before Christmas you wouldn't know it had you been looking out the window at any point during that particular day. John has been immersed in StarCraft 2 for the last month after playing catch-up with everything following this year's election cycle (Watch the video until the end... gotta love politics!). Blizzard has created a soul-sucking machine with WoW and SC2. If you encounter either of these games, run away. If you value your free time you'll heed our warnings.
"In other exciting non-weather related news, Amalgama performed 'Forsaken Soldiers' on After Hours with Joe Bonilla, a local program here in the Capital Region. The taping was last Friday afternoon and will probably be the most metal thing that local access has ever seen (it premiered locally last night at 11pm and will be up on the interwebs shortly). The whole afternoon was quite the experience: the actual studio was deep in the bowels of super complex of a building on a local college campus literally in a 'sub-basement.' We felt like we were in some kind of Resident Evil style facility where some monster was going to pop out and rip us apart. Once we arrived on location the stage was set and there was much bullshitting around while we waited for the audience to file in. Joe Bonilla is a personal friend of John and was very gracious to interview him before our performance. TV studios are hot places as we discovered rather quickly during that afternoon deep underground. All those goddamn lights. More...

New Jersey progressive metal band Suspyre has posted a demo of a new song, "The Divided Son," on their ReverbNation page.
Guitarist Greg Rossetti has issued the following comments on the demo, "We put up a demo of a song from the new album, previously referred to as TDS. This is the first time I actually mixed an entire Suspyre song; I used to sort of pre-mix stuff, then Rich would finish it up, so it was a big jump for me to do the whole thing. I've done lots of mixing before, but on much different music that didn't have much stuff going on. Just for posterity, I'll try to remember the process of how we recorded this song, and what actually didn't get changed when the mix was done.
"* Drums: Recorded Gabe's playing with 15 mics originally, but by the end, it was much fewer. I wound up using two overheads, an occasional hi-hat mic during the more fancy hi-hat parts, at least three snare tracks (top, bottom, then another with a trigger on it for the crack-ier sound), three toms, and a few kick tracks (the main one is a trigger, then another track for the softer sections is another trigger sound, and there is also a natural kick sometimes)." The EP is slated for a December 21st release and will feature two Skid Row covers, a brand new track from the band's next full-length album, and bonus video footage.
Ben (guitars) further explains how the EP came together: "Life Gone Wild is an EP that we really wanted to make happen. We talked about it over and over again. Will people accept this? Will they enjoy it? We truly believe people will love this release. It's raw and it shows another side of us. Our passion for music is portrayed in a completely different light. We are huge 80's rock fans and we wanted to play some songs that will have our slightly older audience reminiscing and hopefully open up some new doors to our younger fans and introduce them to some awesome music that they may not have heard before. Either way, the two Skid Row covers, '18 and Life' and 'Youth Gone Wild' are timeless classics and deserve to be sung along to at the top of your lungs.
"The re-mix editions of 'Sincerity' and 'American Average' were done, again, to sort of broaden the horizons and introduce people to another genre of music we love to listen to. Just fun and loud alcohol induced beats. Perfect for those drunken nights where you just can't help but dance like a fool. 'Breathless' is a song we have been playing live on our past couple of tours. It's a brand new song that will be on our upcoming new album Reckless and Relentless. We are releasing it on this EP so that our fans get the chance to hear something new from us. There will also be an original demo version of a track from Stand up and Scream. This is a version that most people won't be familiar with and that you can't buy anywhere else. More...

Of course, having our producer Matt Hyde kicking our asses 24/7 definitely made the results even better, so obviously we're more than anxious to get this album out there"
