We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week IMPIOUS drummer Mike Norén shares a story from a show they played in Germany:
"We did a show with Cataract at Markthalle in Hamburg back in 2005. I stood next to the stage and watched the entire Cataract set; I was really into the 'With Triumph Comes Loss' album at that time. And on the last song 'Reborn from Fire' I ran right out on stage, threw myself head first towards the monitors, grabbed them just before my head was about to smash into them and did a front flip right off stage. I remember my feet smashing into these German kids’ heads right before my entire bodyweight came slamming down on top of them. After the show a kid came up to me and told me in broken English/German how I 'put my foot in his head.' It was great fun."
I'm not so sure that kid has such fond memories of that night as Mike does! Perhaps it was lost in translation, but no blood, no foul.
Impious' new album "Death Domination" was just released in North America this week and will see an Asian release on December 23rd. You can check out some of their music here.
Check back every Tuesday for a new tale from the mosh pit.

Dark Fortress have issued the following statement about streaming a new song online from their upcoming album:
"Contrary to the last Dark Fortress album 'Eidolon,' 'Ylem' is not strictly a concept album; however, most songs have a common theme - invocations of the death principle from different perspectives. 'Ylem' is the term for the state of the elements before the Big Bang; in alchemy, it refers to the primordial matter from which all elements were created. The return to a state of 'Ylem' automatically signifies the end of everything that exists now. There is a spark of life in every living cell, but also a seed of entropy and death. The insignificance of the feeble evolutionary detour that is man is evident, for our future is clear: we will be nothing but dust and bones on a scorched, lifeless rock waiting to be devoured by the sun. This vision is also the basis of Stephen Lenfestey's artwork for the album.
"Dark Fortress recorded in V Santura's (guitars, also guitars in Triptykon and Noneuclid, and former live-guitarist for Celtic Frost) Woodshed studio without any outside influences or distractions.
"For a first taste the band has revamped their myspace and based it on the aforementioned artwork as well as launched the title track of the album. However, more songs will be revealed soon, as the band will be playing several on their upcoming tour with Satyricon, Shining and Posthum in December." More...

We, The Undersigned have issued the following fifth tour blog from their current "Off With Their Heads" tour:
"November 16th – The Kelowna Club – Kelowna, BC. Oh what a night! As previously mentioned, we decided to drive over night to Kelowna. Desipte the fact that we met up with a snow storm in the mountains of Alberta, with the help of a little bit of shift-work driving, I found myself waking up in what the Tim’s employee told me was Kamloops, BC around noon. Not bad! One motivation behind the night-time drive was to ensure that when we begin our 4-day trek back to Halifax, we’re ready.
"Our first show in British Columbia this time around is in Kelowna. I was once informed by Ottawa’s 'Fuck The Facts' that Kelowna has a lot of passionate music lovers, or so-says their song named after the city. I think we proved their theory because we (er...i mean.... Ninjaspy) filled this small community center and had the craziest pits we’ve seen all tour for both ours as well as NS’s set. Thanks Kelowna for losing your freakin’ minds!!! Can’t wait to come back.
"Something that deserves mentioning about this night is that I took a huge bail during our 2nd song of our set, Pangea Mind. I fell right on my ass and had my guitar signal cut out. As any professional would (lol!), I got my guitar working just in time to hit an A-minor and scream 'Disipate!!!'. That’s what I get for trying to pull off the 'Eddie Vedder' power jumps. Amazing show, sold some shirts/cd’s, got to see my longtime friend Charlie Robichaud. Looking foward to the remainder of our BC dates... More...
Swedish metallers Aeon have issued the following statement about canceling their upcoming tour date with Mayhem and rescheduling a new date on their own:
"We got some bad news. The gig with Mayhem and Godphobia in Östersund 2009-11-28 has been canceled. We are still waiting for details about this. This gig has nothing to do with the Mayhem show so the tickets you may have bought for that show will be re-funded by the booking agency and this show will cost 80:- at the door. No pre-sale will be available due to the short notice. Information about refunding your Mayhem tickets will be sent thru email from the booking agency and details will be found at this location in a moment. The local black metal act Denicalis will support us this evening.
"28.11.2009 Aeon + Denicalis @ Gamla Tingshuset Östersund Price: 80:- at the door Doors open 19:00 and first band on stage 20:00 After the show, we will continue the night at Plaza for some party (18+) PS. We might treat you with a new song this evening…"

In a recent update, Armored Saint bass player Joey Vera revealed more details about what will be Armored Saint's first studio album in ten years including it's name and when fans can expect it. The message reads as follows:
"After six weeks, the new Armored Saint record is done. Well, not entirely….we still have to have it mastered which should be done in the next two weeks. So technically, there’s plenty of time for more arbitrary bouts of stress. But all of the tunes have been recorded and mixed. And I have the dark circles under my eyes to prove it!
"As the producer of the record, I did in fact work very long and hard on this. But I didn’t work alone. Everyone involved worked their asses off. Gonzo, John, Phil and Jeff all came in and gave it everything. Engineer Bryan Carlstrom and his assistant John Nuss were the work horses who kept up the pace in this session which for the most part meant putting in 12 – 14 hour days. I can’t say enough about Bryan, Nuss and Annette Cisneros from Tranzformer Studios in Burbank. This is a first class operation and to boot, they all gave heart and soul into the project which these days you just cannot even pay for. We are in much debt with them. Truly wonderful people.
"The result is just amazing, and I may be hasty when I say that this may be our best record ever. But all dopes in bands say that right? Well this time I think it’s true and although my reasons may be purely personal, I still deem it truth. The songs are great and it sounds great. The title of our new record is La Raza which means, The Race. More...
Norway's Inquested has issued the following update regarding the addition of their new bassist:
"Early this year we parted company with Sondre and were left with no one to handle the bass. There is no bad blood and we are still friends. It was just one of those things that needed to be done. Been nice working with you Sondre. We had some good try outs but went for Sondres brother Håvard, which we had played with before, many years down the line. He helped us out for a while playing some really good shows with us. As that happens he also plays with Soulscarred so we knew we couldn't keep him forever. Thanks a lot for the good work Håvard!" Drummer Brian Tichy (FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL, OZZY OSBOURNE, VELVET REVOLVER) and bassist Michael "Denim" Devin (KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD) have joined LYNCH MOB as the band's new touring rhythm section.
Commented Tichy: "It will be fun to get loud and powerful with George [Lynch], Oni [Logan] and Denim as I've always been a fan and I'd be a liar if I was to say I didn't attempt to learn all his rhythms and leads on 'Tooth and Nail' [DOKKEN] in high school when I was 16! C'mon, he was tearing it up! I was obsessed with guitar back then, as I am now, and he was one of the cats... Well, he still is as so many people nowadays were influenced by him.”
"George is so cool that he came over my house with a little rig and he, myself and Denim had two days of jammin’ the tunes in my bedroom turned drum room. There was barely any space but we had a great time. Total high school vibe! I should have gotten a picture."
