Power of Metal has posted an interview online with vocalist/guitarist Michael Dorrian of Anatomy of I, which also features Dirk Verbeuren and Steve DiGiorgio. In the interview Michael discusses the creation of the band and the recording of the debut album "Substratum." An excerpt from the interview follows:
Power of Metal: Can you tell us the story back Anatomy of I, how the trio was formed?
Michael: I've known Dirk for many years, since we were kids, and we've jammed together a handful of times. We specifically worked on a project in 98 which sounded like a raw version of what 'Anatomy of I' has become, but we ended up never recording it properly, as I wasn't happy with the arrangements. Over the years, Dirk became busier by the minute and while the idea to collaborate on something was still there, I was determined to find a local line-up in the Netherlands. When the zillionth line-up failed, I gave Dirk a call and the rest is history. Regarding Steve, it's a similar story as we've been friends for about 15 years and have jammed in the past, most notably on a jazz-fusion project with Sadus drummer Jon Allen; this never got past these infamous jams that we were stupid enough not to record. So when the music for 'Substratum' was done, having Steve play bass on it made perfect sense.
Power of Metal: Can Substratum be considered as an excellent heir apparent to Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy or it is much more to be only defined so?
Michael: Although Death was one of my main inspirations in my teens, I wouldn't say ANATOMY OF I is a heir apparent to what Chuck did. I won't deny that some riffs have been (unconsciously) inspired by Death, Steve's presence also adds to that Death sound and the fact that I've asked Dirk to go crazy on the fills and breaks while keeping a high tempo beat is reminiscent of Reinert and Hoglan, but the comparison ends there. There are a lot of different elements in our music and we have a sound of our own which will only become more apparent when we'll have a few more releases under our belt.
Power of Metal: Is Anatomy of I destined to be a one time project or can we hope for a second CD in one or two years?
Michael: ANATOMY OF I is definitely a real band working on building a solid career with many more releases to come. The composition of the second album is about 70% done, and I expect to have it all demoed out before the end of the year, yet, we need to focus on 'Substratum' now and promote it in 2012 with as many shows as we can.

Vengeful has checked in with the following announcement about streaming a cover of the Crowbar track "Nothing:"
"Greetings! We are getting closer to the release date. Lookout for a brand new track next week on the release date (November 29th). It features a special guest appearance from another one of the greats. And now...
"Here we go again with a new track available on our Myspace and via the MEDIA section. New to most but old to some. Nothing is a song taken from Crowbar's Broken Glass album (released in 1996). To be quite frank, back then the only Crowbar songs I knew (like most) were Existence is Punishment and their all-time classic All I had I gave. Sometime after Down II (2002), slower music started to be more appealing. Crowbar's music was mostly about weight be it musically or lyrically. Something that I related to while trying to find a sound for what would become Vengeful.
"We wouldn't sound like we do today without bands such as Crowbar and Neurosis. This is a tribute to the former. I took upon myself the responsibility of handling the main vocals on our rendition of the track. A rather difficult task since Mr. Windstein is the boss when it comes to guttural-meets-melodies... None Heavier."
Vengeful also recently posted a Morbid Angel cover track online, with full details available here.
Rogue Records America has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Denmark's Caro:
"Rogue Records America’s family is growing, the publisher has set their sights to the part of the world that produced some of the best death metal / thrash metal bands in the world. Today we land in Denmark with the signing of Danish Thrashers Caro. Caro is a thrash band from Frederikshavn Denmark that plays a mix of thrash, death and progressive metal. Formed in 2007 under the name OMEN was reformed as CARO in 2011.
“Caro reminds me of old school thrash…down and dirty and totally in your face. I love that and I miss that style. So when I heard them it made me super happy…I had to be a part of what they are doing in some way," said the labels owner Dean Martinetti.
Caro drummer Sigurd (Sig) Jensen had this to say: “We are very happy to now be a part of the Rogue Records family, this is for sure a big opportunity to get our music out there, and we are totally stoked to see what this will bring in the future.”
Caro's "Like a Sickness," which to date has only been available at shows, is slated for a January 2012 release. The first single "The Sickness" can be heard in the player below. More...
In October 2010, after a few months living in the studio working on demos and recording, Castro Valley, CA’s Defiler released the debut album "Pangaea" as a digital album only. Soon after, scraping together enough money from digital sales of the release, the band shot its first ever music video for "Cryomancer."
The viral success of the "Cryomancer" video immediately caught the attention of Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Jasta, Kingdom of Sorrow) and Stillborn Records. Shortly thereafter, Defiler vocalist Jake Pelzl and Jasta started working together on re-issuing "Pangaea" as a physical CD for the first time ever. Due to popular demand, Stillborn Records is now fast tracking the re-issue and making it available for a limited time as a CD/T-shirt bundle.
The re-issue of "Pangaea" was remixed/re-masterd by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Emmure, Chimaira) and also includes "Wild Wasteland," a never before released bonus studio track. The re-issue will also include new artwork designed by Mike D from Darkicon Design (Killswitch Engage).
Defiler recently signed a new record deal (with a new label home) and additional details are set to be announced shortly. The band is currently hard at work on the follow up to "Pangaea" with an expected first quarter 2012 release.
This coming January 24th, 2012 will see the re-release of three earlier albums from Italian act Forgotten Tomb. The following albums and formats will be released via Agonia Records:

"Songs to Leave" - digipack CD / 12"LP
"Springtime Depression" - digipack CD / 12"LP
All three albums have been re-mastered and will be available as noble heavy (180g) vinyls and digipack CDs, including 12 pages booklets with rare pictures and liner notes by vocalist Herr Morbid himself.

Bass webzine NoTreble has released an exclusive interview with Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Nufutic, Pestilence, ex-Obscura), where he talks about his musical background and leaving German technical death metal act Obscura.
Thesseling collaborated with Obscura from 2008 to 2011 and recorded the band's full-length albums "Cosmogenesis" (2009) and "Omnivium" (2011). In 2009 Jeroen rejoined Dutch death metallers Pestilence after a 15-year hiatus. He recorded Pestilence's fourth and sixth studio albums, "Spheres" (1993) and "Doctrine" (2011).
Thesseling commented in the interview, "After leaving Obscura, I thought 'What could I do?', I don’t feel like touring anymore, being five or six weeks on the road in a bus, every night playing the same songs. It was great to do it, but on the other hand I must say you don’t get to develop yourself to become a better musician because you’re always playing the same stuff every night, over and over again."
A further excerpt from the interview can be found below.
NoTreble: A few months ago it was announced you left Obscura. What happened?
Jeroen: That was a very hard decision for me, but I had to leave the band. Four people trying to make a living off that band means you have to tour a lot. If you do nothing besides the band, you have to tour for 7-8 months per year just to make a living of it. That was something that I tried. I left my job and I went for it. During the period that I was active with Obscura, I also rejoined Pestilence again for several reasons, but also to make money to survive. Then you find out that it’s extremely hard to combine two bands, not only for recordings, but more for touring. You get huge problems and conflicting schedules.
It was last year that made me decide that it would be better to go back to a job and give up one of those bands. You can’t be in a day job while the rest of the band wants to tour for months. It was more like a financial pressure that made me decide to leave Obscura while the band was doing really well and as they were recording their second album, which was released and received very very well. [I played on the album], but I haven’t performed it live.

"However, this is the most critical time for the songwriting and finalization of the next Sabaton album, so please have patience and understanding for me not answering or taking long time to answer.
"Anyway, over 50% of the songs are all completed and done by now and I can honestly say that this album is gonna kick MY ass out the ballpark. Keep rocking and I'm really looking forward to hitting the stage for the final shows in Silja Galaxy, London and Antwerp!
Cheers / Joakim"
