Richard Christy's Charred Walls of the Damned recently filmed a video for "Zerospan," a track taken from the band's latest album "Cold Winds On Timeless Days" (reviewed here). A trailer for the video has been made available and can be viewed below.
Richard Christy talks about the concept behind the video: "What we're crafting with the 'Zerospan' video is a five minute technological horror film set to blistering heavy metal! We had such an amazing filmmaking team for the 'Zerospan' video. We had Directors Mike Schiff (Charred Walls 'Ghost Town' video) and Sean McEwan (Albino Farm) who are super talented and have brought some incredible ideas! We also had amazing special effects makeup by Brian Spears and Pete Gerner from G and S Effects who recently did the amazing vampire film 'Stakeland!'
"Our lead actor Bryan Haeffele did amazing as well, and people are going to freak when they see the creature effects in this video! We're going to spend some time editing and making it perfect and we're looking to a January 2012 release date! We wanted to release this quick little teaser to give everyone a taste of the horrifying awesomeness that will be the 'Zerospan' video! Trust me, it is going to be well worth the wait!" More...

We've been hitting up metal bands and fans from around the globe to get their most devastating mosh pit stories, and this week drummer Daniel Liljekvist of Swedish act Katatonia shares the following tale of losing an eyebrow piercing and getting an impromptu tattoo:
So back in 1997-1998, me and a girl I used to know traveled all across Sweden photographing bands we liked. Especially the band Refused. This story takes place at a small venue in Stockholm called Kafé 44. I think it takes around 250 people and the place was packed! There were some 200 more kids outside in the street that didn’t get in. So the bands on the bill (Refused and The Hives, who actually opened for Refused back then) decide to play two sets at the same night. So as soon as the venue was empty with people after the first set they start bringing in the kids that waited outside. I had a photo pass so I could stay for both sets however; I had run out of film for the camera so I decided to just watch the second set.
Pretty soon I was in the pit myself. People were stage diving, moshing and when they played the song “Circle Pit” all hell broke loose. I climbed up on top of the PA system and dived straight into the crowd, hitting my forehead in someone’s belt buckle and in the same time ripping out my eyebrow piercing. So I’m bleeding like hell and have a big chunk of eyebrow dangling as I try to stand up when another diver lands on me, ass first on my lap, and it stings. Turns out the guy who landed on me had a ball pointed pen in his back pocket and it had penetrated my right thigh. So now I have a small blue dot that will always remind me of that awesome night in Stockholm. My first tattoo even. Cheers!
In other recent news, the band managed to get an easter egg included in the new video game "Skyrim." Katatonia also just finished a North American tour alongside Opeth in support of the band's most recent album "Night is the New Day" (reviewed here). You can check out an interview with Katatonia from the tour by heading over to this location. The band is also expected to release information in the near future about working on a new full-length album.
Check back in next week as we continue to share more pit stories from metal heads and musicians.
Rogue Records has issued the following announcement about releasing the "Ritual" album from female-fronted act Ashka:
"Hailing from Paris, France but utilizing vocals in English, Ashka is an eye-catching female-fronted metal band about to break out of their home market. Formed in 2007 the band have worked to hone their metal genre-defying heavy yet melodic sound. The result is 'Ritual,' their first release for Rogue having signed to the American metal indie label's expanding and varied roster in summer of this year.
"The album contains 8 hard hitting slabs of groove metal and now gets a worldwide outing following its release in France earlier this year. Lead-singer Syhem's vocals are both sweet and startling. From beautiful clear melody on tunes like 'Breathe,' and 'Romance,' to a brutal death growl on 'Nameless.' The band also comprises Laurent (guitar) Eric (drums) & Crypp (bass)."
“We've a very strong idea of the kind of music we want to make and we're really happy with what we've been able to produce for 'Ritual.' It was well received at home and we're looking forward to grabbing new fans all over the world,” said lead-singer Syhem.
Rogue Records founder and owner, Dean Martinetti, said “We're excited to bring Ashka to the attention of metal fans around the world. They have an awesome sound, not just in terms of their musicianship but the production is excellent too.”
You can check out Ashka's music by navigating your browser over to the band's Facebook profile here.

Texas is a large enough state, the largest of the lower forty-eight, and has so many metal scenes that its promoters have built festivals consisting solely of bands within its large borders. The Goregrowler’s Ball built its foundation on Lone Star groups. The first installment began five years ago, when festival organizer, Aaron Mendiola (read his interview) threw a thirty-band birthday bash in honor of his thirtieth birthday. Devourment headlined, a Texas band, albeit one of international acclaim. Since the first sanguinary celebration in 2007, Mendiola has continually increased the amount of signed bands with strong reputations in the metal underground, culminating with the strongest lineup yet at this year’s festivities.
As many festival promoters before him have done, Mendiola tapped some of the talent from ongoing tours. The Metal Underground-sponsored tour featuring Exhumed, Goatwhore and Havok provided day one’s headliners. Singaporean black metallers, Impiety didn’t have to board a plane for thirty hours (or however long it takes) to arrive in Texas. The festival comprised their San Antonio stop on the tour. Gravehill were part of this tour and were originally scheduled to play the Ball, but cancelled at the beginning of the month. Internal Bleeding, Hirax and Brutal Truth took center stage on Saturday and Suffocation ended the fest in a bone-breaking fashion.
The “A Clockwork Orange” dubbed Korova Club played host to the event. The club’s downtown location provided plenty of cheap parking, but the outdoor stage sparked controversy from townies and tourists alike. As if the festival were an odd, new River Walk attraction, people passing by often stopped and took in the strange noises that emanated from Korova’s parking lot stage. Food and beverages were prohibited from entering or leaving Korova’s gated premises, but allegedly one patron took a beer to the parking lot, which resulted in the club receiving a fine. On the third day, one of the fans alleged that the outdoor stage would be shut down due to excessive profanity. That never happened, but Goatwhore’s 11:30-12:00 outdoor showing went inside. Day two saw the indoor-outdoor shuffle retire at 10 PM and even earlier on the third day. More...
Legendary Swedish Viking/death metal masters Unleashed have posted an update from Chrome Studios in Sweden where the band has finished recording its upcoming album.
Johnny Hedlund (bass/vocals) commented, “We are now ready with most of the recording, final vocals were done last week and we are very satisfied so far. We will now spend some real time on mixing this and creating a crushing sound. Anders just asked me if this might be the fastest unleashed album to date. I'm not sure but it's likely close anyhow.”
The upcoming album was produced by Unleashed guitar player, Fredrik Folkare, and will see a spring 2012 release on Nuclear Blast Records. Stay tuned for more information on Unleashed.
Canadian heavy metal outfit 3 Inches Of Blood has announced that they will be soon entering the studio to begin work on their next studio album, which will be released sometime next year. The album will be recorded at Vogville Studios and Profile Studios in Vancouver with engineer and producer Terry Sho Murray, who also worked on the band's last 7".
Guitarist Shane Clark comments, "We 're in pre-production mode here in east van and we're writing our next blood soaked metal masterpiece!! We are keeping true metal alive, so fuck trends brothers and sisters!! Stay metal!!! You will hear from us very soon!!"
Metal Injection is hosting an exclusive video premiere of “D.O.A.,” the latest work of cinematic awesomeness from Denver thrash sensations, Havok. The tune comes off the band’s "Time Is Up" full-length (reviewed here), released via Candlelight Records earlier this year. The video was directed by Josh Gold and shot in various locations around Denver.
Commented vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez: “This video is a reflection of the lyrics to ‘D.O.A.,’ a song about drunk driving and smashing your face through the fucking windshield! It’s a pretty brutal video for a brutal song.”
Heavy metal veterans Dokken has announced that they will soon be entering the studio to record a brand new album, which will be released sometime next year through Frontiers Records. This will be the bands first album since 2008s, "Lightning Strikes Again." The group is hoping to finish recording the album by the end of February before hitting the road in June.
"So far we have written 10 songs in only 8 weeks", says singer Don Dokken. "Usually we spend a year or more on our music. I can't explain why this time it came so fast, it just happened. So far the music is very uptempo and heavy, of course we know our fans like the classic Dokken sound and this is where our new music is headed. It’s been a band of brothers doing what we love : 'music'.
"In a perfect world we would like to release the new album before the summer and then play the festivals in Europe. Then hopefully we can jump on a package tour in the US, says Don Dokken. "We want to give everyone a great CD that will keep all music fans Rokkin’ during these troubled times!"

U.S. grindcore legends Terrorizer recently completed their new album. This third manifesto of face-melting brutal metal is entitled "Hordes of Zombies" and has been scheduled for a February 24th (Feb. 28th in North America), 2012 release through Season of Mist. The record label commented on Terrorizer:
"The band's line-up features the dark lord of metal David Vincent (Morbid Angel) on bass. He's back to continue the onslaught he began with Terrorizer's debut album masterpiece 'World Downfall.' Commando Pete Sandoval remains dug into position on drums, blasting out armor-piercing beats and defending his territory as one of the most brutal drummers alive.
"Wolf, aka Anthony Rezhawk (Resistant Culture), the vocalist on the previous album release 'Darker Days Ahead,' returns for his second menacing oration of dark politicized prophecies about the apocalyptic near future. On guitar, it is the great honor of Katina Culture (Resistant Culture) to shred in place of the late Jesse Pintado, who is still felt to be in the band in heart and spirit. She is attempted to do justice to Jesse's frantic, yet precise tornado of riffing while adding her own style to the mix of sonic wreckage."
Gene 'The Atomic Clock' Hoglan (Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad, Dethklok, Fear Factory, Testament) and RealLesson.com have joined forces to offer a rare chance for fans and musicians to receive live, interactive lessons online.

RealLesson.com commented, "RealLesson.com is your outlet for taking live, interactive lessons online or in person! During our pre-launch phase, we are having great success in attracting and securing a wide variety of teachers! There is no limit to the style/genre of the teacher, so you will have no shortage of qualified teachers to learn from. We will not only be providing lessons with musicians, but also sound engineers, tour managers, lighting/stage professionals and other relative categories of instruction."

Fresh from inking a deal with SPV/Long Branch Records, Prong has entered the studio with producer Steve Evetts. "He understands Prong in a way no other producer we've ever worked with has," says Prong guitarist, vocalist and mainstay Tommy Victor on the choice of producer. Evetts' recent work includes the likes of Dillinger Escape Plan and Suicide Silence.
"We have a lot of history and have always evolved as a band. The goal for all of us was to take all of that and make a definitive PRONG album," Victor continues.
In the meantime, Prong has been featured in Decibel magazine's Thrash Metal Hall of Fame special issue in an article detailing the making of 1990's benchmark album "Beg To Differ." Spin Magazine best summed up that era of Prong's evolution as "crafted in an alternative universe where Alain Jourgensen - not Dave Mustaine - is the incorrigible charter member of a pre-Metallica world."
For more information on Prong, visit the band's official website by navigating over to this location.

You must have all your own gear, transportation, and be willing to practice between 2 and 4 days a week. And of course, be ready to jam on as many shows as possible come springtime. Five years after the release of the "Adjø Silo," Norway's Formloff is returning with a new dark black metal piece. Titled "Spyhorelandet," the record is set for release via Eisenwald in January 2012. The band's publicist commented on the album:
"Finding progression in regression, Formloff has crafted an album closer to the sound of the first demo, Overstyring. Darker and more atmospheric than ever before, the Formloff duo -- Bernt Karsten Sannerud and Marius Sjøli -- also recruited several session musicians to compete the recording lineup, including two bass players, a drummer and a saxophonist.
"Where most black metal revels in stories of fictional deities, benign and malignant, Spyhorelandet wallows in everyday themes. Much like the cover art (to be revealed soon), the music contained within bears forth the naked truth. When you peel back the skin, no matter how beautiful, what is left is the ugly personal histories each of us carries. Throughout Spyhorelandet, naked inhabitants of our world are quoted directly. For many of whom, defeat is their best and sometimes only asset."
Two sample tracks from the record are available to be heard below. More...

Pythia has revealed the details of the band's second album "The Serpent's Curse," which will be released on February 27th, 2012 on Golden Axe via Genepool/Universal in the UK. Just in time for Yule Tide, Pythia will release an advance single, "Betray My Heart," on the 19th of December on an extremely limited edition colored vinyl 7", with a remixed version appearing on the B-side, and as a CD/digital download.
Guitarist Ross comments, "Betray My Heart is a dark, heavy and very 'full on' song. Heavy Riff after heavy riff, pummeling drums, layers of epic keys and Emily's trademark soaring, emotion drenched vocals full of dark yet catchy melodies. This ain't no sugar-coated pop metal, it's dark symphonic power-thrash metal!"
The band has also completed work on a video to accompany the single. Drummer Marc comments, "This video was all about capturing the energy and emotion of both the song itself, and the band's live shows. Pounding and aggressive, yet intimate and emotive, personal and introspective, but spewing forth a venomous assault."
The video was filmed at the majestic St. John's of Hackney at the end of summer; a fitting baptism by fire for new bassist Mark Harrington. Mark's first response on coming through the door was "Whew…. These guys are nuts, what have I let myself in for," but was followed by "It's a real honour to be providing the bottom-end rumble to such a sterling bunch of metal warriors! I'm really looking forward to the exciting things we have planned in the next few months..."
The band also commented about filming the video and releasing a new album: "During the making of 'The Serpent's Curse' we encountered the highs and lows of human experience. From the darkness of death to the wonder of birth as a band we faced these colossal events united. This album sprung from our endeavours to understand the circle of life, the mighty force of nature and our fight for survival."
