Rhythm guitarist Vic Stown of U.S. thrashers Vindicator has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new bassist and seeking a lead guitarist:
"Vindisciples, It brings me great pleasure to introduce Kidd Chaos! It's been a grueling search to find some one with the heart, reliability, and competence to fill our vacant bass slot. Kidd brings with him roughly ten years experience and has performed in various groups over the years with numerous musicians including Ryan Shutler from Lazarus A.D. We're very happy to have him on board.
"Now to clear up any confusion the line up stands as: Marshall Law - Vocals, Vic Stown - Guitar, Kidd Chaos - Bass, and Jesse Stown - Drums. Now all we've got to do is find one o' them lead players and we're all set. Thanks to all who are aiding us in our search!"
Norwegian metallers Thornbound have issued the following update about streaming a new song titled "Hatred" online at their MySpace page:
"Time has come to finally show what we have been up to since we recorded the demo some years ago. The band line-up changed radically after that demo, so we have slowly changed and improved our style of death metal. The new stuff is a lot faster, a lot slower, more technical and just a lot more brutal! The 'new' members have certainly added a refreshing and much needed touch to the songwriting.
"We are currently recording a preproduction for an album and we will upload a couple of songs from this production to show you how we sound these days. The first song is called 'Hatred' and is a thrashy death metal monster."

"12+ years of good times, great fans/friends, and what I still perceive to be great music. I will still continue to support Lecherous and I know that they still have many years of great things ahead of them." More...

Kevin Quirion, vocalist/guitarist of the Floridian extreme metal band, ORDER OF ENNEAD has been keeping an updated MySpace blog detailing the daily exploits of the band as they record the followup to their eponymous 2008 debut album with producer, Mark Lewis (ORDER OF ENNEAD, TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, ALL THAT REMAINS) at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL.
Quirion's studio updates have ranged from the informative to the downright bizarre - such as the entry that details how a tragic office shooting coincidentally would delay the day's recording schedule. Here's the latest update written by the ORDER OF ENNEAD frontman this past Monday:
"Day 5 Nov 16th 2009. Just a day of all work. Tracked five songs today and it all went very smooth. Mark and myself were the only ones in the studio today. Only two more to do tomorrow. Might start bass and vocals or we might do some random atmosphere and solo sections. We'll see how we feel tomorrow."
Keep updated on the progress of the album here.
ORDER OF ENNEAD's new album is tentatively set for release in Spring 2010
Check out some video footage of ORDER OF ENNEAD performing from their last European tour below.

California's Détente has issued the following update about recruiting a new vocalist:
"First we want to thank Ann Boleyn for her help with the DÉTENTE reunion shows; it was great working with her and we wish her the best in everything she does. We are pleased to announce the addition of Tiina Teal as the new vocalist for DÉTENTE. Originally starting out behind the kit as a drummer, Tiina has been singing & screaming for the last 10 years. Having influences ranging from Jarboe to Nina Simone as well as Strapping Young Lad’s Devin Townsend, she’s collaborated with various musicians and bands in Los Angeles and won ‘Best Anti-War Band’ with her metal group, Burn The Empire.
"We have already put down 4 of the 9 new tracks with her and can tell you that both old and new supporters of the band will be blown away by her and the new tracks. Decline is coming along very well, taking longer than expected but it will be worth it; we should have an official street date announcement mid December."

Newly formed Dutch metallers Entrapment, who describe themselves as "Zombifying soul tearing death metal," are currently streaming a new song online. The track "Infernal Blasphemies" can be heard at the band's MySpace page. "Infernal Blasphemies" is off Entrapment's upcoming as-yet-untitled demo.
WITHIN TEMPTATION will release their forthcoming (and delayed from a November 2nd release) live album, "An Acoustic Night at the Theatre," on December 15. The release will be available via all digital music providers, while physical copies will be available exclusively at the newly-launched Roadrunner Records web store.
In November 2008, Within Temptation embarked on a sold-out, intimate theatre tour in their native Europe, complete with seated audiences. The setup afforded the band the opportunity to rearrange several classics from its extensive catalogue to suit an acoustic performance. The album was recorded at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven, Holland on November 30 of last year.
Guitarist Robert Westerholt explained, “I was fascinated by the idea of giving our audience a much more individual experience by focusing on the essence of our songs and reducing the show to a minimum. At the same time the acoustic arrangements and sounds let you hear different influences in our music. For example, some Celtic elements which I think come out best when played acoustically.” Vocalist Sharon den Adel adds, “To show this other side of Within Temptation has been a dream of mine for quite some time. It was great to see that not only our existing fans but also people seeing us for the first time enjoyed it so much.”
Special guests include Life of Agony’s vocalist Keith Caputo for the single “What Have You Done.” Caputo guested on the album version, so it was only appropriate that he contributed to the live song, as well. Additionally, The Gathering’s Anneke van Giersbergen joins den Adel for a powerful partnership on “Somewhere.”
Of additional note, the album also contains the brand new song "Utopia," written during the rehearsals for the theatre tour. A duet with UK singer-songwriter Chris Jones (who Sharon met while working with world-famous DJ Armin van Buuren on his track In And Out Of Love), "Utopia" will also be available as a digital single prior to the album release. Utopia is about two lovers who can't be together because they are separated by their contrasting dreams of the ideal life. "The only way to be together is for one of them to sacrifice their dream,” clarifies Sharon. “It really is about this one moment that we each inevitably experience: reaching a point in your life where you have to decide what you want your future to look like."
The full tracklisting of "An Acoustic Night at the Theatre" is as follows:
1. Towards The End
2. Stand My Ground
4. All I Need
6. Somewhere (feat. Anneke van Giersbergen)
7. The Cross
9. What Have You Done (feat. Keith Caputo)
12. Utopia (feat. Chris Jones)

Texas death metallers Decrepitaph have issued the following update about upcoming releases:
"We just finished deleting all the songs in the MySpace player and putting up 8 fresh ones from all our releases. There are 3 tracks up from 'Condemned Cathedral' that have never been in the player before, and 2 of them are by request from people that wrote to us over the past couple months asking for them. There are 3 tracks from 'Ancient Dwellings' demo/promo/unreleased CD, which is one track from the original demo, one track from the Promo 2007, and the Asphyx cover song. Our half of the split 7" with Father Befouled which is called 'Summoned For Sacrifice' is also up, as is the first half of the 'Resurrected and Rotting' vinyl.
"Moving ahead, the mixing for our second album 'Beyond The Cursed Tombs' is COMPLETED, the layout is COMPLETED, and everything is ready to go. There is no release date yet, but expect it sometime early in 2010 on Razorback Records. Many thanks to Patrick from Crypticus for doing an amazing job on the mixing and Ghoat from Father Befouled for making the layout look amazing. Also, special thanks to everyone that contributed art to this release. Unfortunately, we had to cut out a few pieces of art do to space constraints, but we will use everything we got on future releases. More...
Finnish black metallers Gloria Morti have issued the following update from the studio:
"The recordings kicked off with a full day of comparing and tuning drums. This time we did not leave a single stone unturned. We had a few different full sets and half a dozen snare drums to choose from. You can imagine the headache after ten hours of listening to all of the different drum takes with all of the different mic combinations. But we managed to pull it thru. Now we have a drum set that sounds crystal clear and exceptionally powerful. Big thanks to Veka Salminen for the tuning. Tomorrow we are going to record the first beats of the album. So stay tuned..."
Dutch metallers Massive Assault have issued the following announcement about recruiting a new bassist:
"We are very happy to tell you that we have completed our line-up! Reiner Top 'Toppe' is the name of our new bassplayer. With the addition of both Gideon and Reiner we are once again at full battle strength and ready to grind away! Both our new members fit very well within our musical style and the old school feel will be stronger present than ever."

Finland’s 3-piece occult propaganda black metallist, SOLIUM XI, has just released a music video for the song “Antagonisti” from their debut full length album, “Litanies Unto Adversary,” released through TRINITY RECORDS HONG KONG. It is produced and edited by Esÿ and Korpi and they clearly captured the band’s cold frosty atmosphere, mysticism, and occult themes.
You can watch the video below:
Few bands can claim that they have had a profound influence on a variety of sub-genres in metal, from thrash to progressive and from black metal to power, Mercyful Fate can proudly and honestly say that they are one of those bands. The group formed in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark in 1981 from the ashes of the bands Brats and Black Rose and became well known for their dark and Satanic themes both in their music and stage act. They recorded two classic albums in the form of "Melissa" (named after the human skull lead vocalist King Diamond would use on stage) and "Don't Break The Oath," which were released in 1983 and 1984 respectively. After their first tour of the United States, King Diamond decided to leave the band due to creative differences and took band members Timi Hansen and Michael Denner with him. Instead of continuing under the Mercyful Fate banner, remaining band member Hank Shermann formed a band simply named Fate which followed a more mainstream rock direction.
Mercyful Fate reunited in July of 1992 (though King Diamond would continue to release albums under his own moniker throughout this period) and recorded several more records thoughout the '90s, concluding with 1999's "9" album. Whilst the band has been more or less inactive since the record's release, King Diamond has promised fans that they haven't heard the last of Mercyful Fate and that the band will definitely return at some point in time with a new album and tour.
When looking at the band, one can see how they influenced the black metal genre with their satanic lyrics and imagery but after listening to the band themselves, it becomes apparant that they became so influential in a broad spectrum because they were outstanding musicians. King Diamond can be considered as the master story-teller of heavy metal and knew perfectly how to capture the listeners interest with his unique, haunting stories and lyrics. Add to this his one of a kind vocal delivery which could reach the highest of highs and lowest of lows and the end result is one of the greatest frontmen in the history of metal. The band themselves also proved time and time again that they were extremely talented when it came to their instruments and song writing and orchestrated some of the most complex and intricate metal songs of the time. Still to this day, bands cite Mercyful Fate as an influence in their music and they are perhaps remembered as the biggest and best metal band to ever come from Denmark. More...
