Legendary German power metallers Gamma Ray will unleash "Skeletons & Majesties Live" as a two-CD set next month via Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records. Set for North American release on December 4th, 2012, "Skeletons & Majesties Live" is a near two-hour magnum opus spanning the band’s history and includes classics as well as tracks which were under-represented to date.
A DVD version will be released stateside in January. "Skeletons & Majesties Live" was recorded and filmed during the band’s 2011 European tour at the legendary Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland and is the first properly HD-filmed live video production of the band’s 20+ year career.
"The [2011 released] EP, Skeletons & Majesties, is practically a continuation of our Skeletons In The Closet concept, in other words: new versions of songs which didn't receive the attention they deserve, as well as unplugged versions of some of our classics," notes founding vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen.
As a special bonus, to accompany the Hansen-penned Helloween classic on stage, Gamma Ray enlisted the services of former Helloween frontman Michael Kiske. In addition, Kiske can be heard and seen on "Time To Break Free" and "A While In Dreamland." More...

The Fallen Divine released debut album ”The Binding Cycle” earlier this year and now the band has posted a music video for “Fire Lights The Night," which can be viewed below. The following press release was issued about the band:
"The Fallen Divine is a progressive extreme metal band from Oslo, Norway that took form in the summer of 2009. Since that date, after hours upon hours in the rehearsal space, the band has created a style of progressive metal that very few other bands have achieved before them. It’s difficult to categorize the sound of The Fallen Divine, but descriptions like 'melodic,' 'dynamic,' and 'complex' are often used."
Dan Swanö also commented: “Another example that proves that Scandinavia rule the Progressive Death metal scene. Dynamic and bombastic, just the way I like it. These guys have a bright future ahead!"

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Vancouver metal quartet Anciients. Anciients has finished mastering a debut album slated for release in 2013. The label comments:
"The as-yet-untitled album sees the gang forging together smouldering apocalyptic riffs, classic hard rock influences and unforgettable vocal melodies with an interplay praising both the natural and occult."
Regarding the signing, the band issued the following statement: "We are honored to have Season of Mist release our debut, the fact that they chose us and believe in us means the world. We are proud to represent them and have them representing us as artists, and look forward to working with them for years to come."
Formed in 2010, Anciients has taken the Vancouver scene by storm. The band has already shared the stage with acts such as Pig Destroyer, Skeletonwitch, Manilla Road, 3 Inches of Blood, Boris, and High on Fire, and has been invited to perform at the prestigious Sled Island and Noctis Festivals.
Justin Sullivan, lead singer of the English band New Model Army, will be a guest vocalist on the track "The Windswept Mercy," which will appear on the new Soilwork double album, "The Living Infinite."
Formed in 1980 in Bradford, England, New Model Army still has a very loyal following and Soilwork front man Björn "Speed" Strid counts himself among it. Sullivan shares the serendipitous back-story on how he met up with Sweden’s melodic metal maestros Soilwork:
"Some years ago, I met Björn somewhere in the deserts of the southwestern U.S. I expect we both had good reasons for being there - though things like reason get swallowed up in the strangeness of deserts. Anyway, I'm sure we were talking about deserts and the idea of desert music as Europeans always have an unending fascination with these wondrous alien places. ‘Would you sing on a Soilwork record?’ he asked. ‘Yes, of course’ I replied, and so, many years later, I suddenly get an e-mail from Soilwork in a studio in Stockholm at exactly the same moment NMA were in a studio in London. And by a miracle of technology was able to do a quick vocal on this great and strangely beautiful song. Perhaps you beat me to the desert music thing after all, Bjorn. Love the track. All The Best.” More...

U.K. black metal act Nine Covens released the new album "On The Dawning Light" earlier this month in Europe, and now the album is set for release in the U.S. on January 8th, 2013 through Candlelight USA's Cult Series. The label comments:
"On The Dawning Of Light is the second album from rising London-based underground black metal band Nine Covens and their first with proper distribution in North America. Nine Covens came together to explore the darker, more brooding aspects of black metal and in doing so have created a virulent, belligerent and passionate account of the weakness that exists in humanity. Nine Covens offer a sonic confrontation to the eternally weak and all who follow without question to reflect on themselves and consider an alternative. Named after noted English witch/magician George Pickingill, Nine Covens shroud their identities to focus on the music."
The "On The Dawning Of Light" track listing is as follows:
1. Origin Of Light
2. As Fire Consumes
3. At The Ocean’s Strand
4. The Mist Of Death
5. The Fog Of Deceit
6. To Quench A Raging

The deluxe reissue of Death’s landmark, genre-defining album "Spiritual Healing" is now available. In addition to a 2-disc edition, limited edition (2000 machine numbered copies) triple CD digipaks are available exclusively from Relapse.com. The third CD features a never before released live set recorded in 1990 featuring the "Spiritual Healing" Death line up. An iTunes deluxe edition has also been released containing 5 additional previously unreleased pre-Human rehearsal tracks not available on either of the CD versions.
The entire reissue is currently streaming online via Loudwire.com at this location. Relapse Records also commented:
"Originally released in 1990, Spiritual Healing marked a new turn in the Death discography, one which ushered in cleaner production, a new level of boundary pushing musicianship and songwriting skills that were previously unimaginable from a metal band. Spiritual Healing sets the standard for riffs, insane time changes and of course mainman Chuck Schuldiner’s masterful guitar solos.
"Now reissued as a double CD housed in super deluxe packaging featuring brand new liner notes from Death players James Murphy and Terry Butler, Chuck’s sister Beth Schuldiner and Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen, Disc 1 features a completely new remaster of the original album and Disc 2 contains 16 previously unreleased rehearsal, outtakes and studio instrumentals.
"Spiritual Healing follows the recent Relapse Records re-issues of DEATH classics Individual Thought Patterns, The Sound of Perseverance, Human, and the live collection Vivus! plus Chuck Schuldiner projects MANTAS & CONTROL DENIED. Like those reissues, this collection contains extensive liner notes from previous members and never-before-seen photos of the band." More...

Reflections Records has issued the following announcement about Herder parting ways with the band's vocalist:
"'Horror Vacui' will be Herder's last brass knuckled fist in many hipster's face with ultra bastardous vocalist Nico insulting the crowd. Since he liked spending time Down Under with women (and kangaroos) so much, he decided to stay there. The noisy scumbag that'll replace him is Ché Snelting. This notorious hound of Hades has built his criminal record with Born From Pain and Arma Gathas and will be an aggressive addition to this already relentless stabhappy pack of rabid alsations.
"The band is already working on new material to be released mid 2013. We are very stoked that Herder has found this incredible replacement for Nico. We’ve known Ché since his glory days with Born From Pain and he never failed to deliver. He’s not only a great singer but also an amazing front man. A great addition to Herder and we can’t wait to see him leading this pack of wild dogs!"
As Ché puts it:"Only one thing crossed my mind when Holland’s hardest AND best asked me to join them and scream my lungs out for them. It took me a second scream: 'HELL YES.' I cannot wait to get on stage and start recording with Herder, even though I recognize Nico’s shoes are big shoes to fill, but I will do anything in my power possible to be a more than worthy replacement. The vibe within the band is as awesome as it can be. Be prepared for greatness. We’re taking over."
Herder has also been selected to play the imfamous Roadbrun festival in Tilburg. Herder will destroy the Green Room of the 013 venue on Thursday, April 18th. The Roadburn crew comments: “After defiling the Roadburn hard rock hideout in 2012, Herder’s mission remains defiantly unchanged: to unleash filthy sludge in an outpouring of deep rumbling decibel quakes in the hellish underbelly of a world gone mad!” More...
Battle metallers Turisas have officially started recording their upcoming 4th studio album. The band is currently recording drums at Atomic Spa studio in Helsinki, Finland, and will continue the recordings in different locations until the end of January. This follow-up to 2011's "Stand Up And Fight" is scheduled for a worldwide release in May 2013 via Century Media Records.
Turisas has also announced a few line-up changes in conjunction with the band entering the studio. After spending 15 years with Turisas behind the kit, original member Tuomas "Tude" Lehtonen has decided to part ways with the band. Lehtonen explains the reasons behind his decision:
"I can't tell you how hard it feels to step away from the path we've been walking together for the last 15 years - and to start a new era in my life without the band. There are many reasons for me to quit the band. The stress from the years spent on the road and different artistic visions have lead to a mutual decision for me to step back and hand over the drumsticks to the next guy. In any case, it has been a great experience and all the memories from being on the road are something that I will always cherish.
"The biggest thanks go to all of the past and present members of the band, not to forget all the technicians and fellow drummers I've met on shows and on tour - and, of course, especially to all the fans that have allowed us to grow to the level that Turisas are at today. Good luck and lots of success to all my bandmates - I feel that I will never be straying too far away from the band. I shall always be proudly carrying the heart of Turisas wherever I go. The man can leave the band but the band will never really leave the man. Battle Metal!" More...
Inner Wound Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Brazilian progressive power metal band Vandroya. The label comments:
"Their debut album 'One' will be released on January 18th in Europe and North America. The Japanese edition of the album will be released on December 19th through Spiritual Beast and the Brazilian edition will be released on February 4th through Voice Music.
"Vandroya is definitely one of the best kept secrets from Brazil and led by the fantastic vocalist Daisa Munhoz [Soulspell] they bring something new to the melodic metal table with their epic progressive power metal. Vandroya should be a perfect fit for fans of Kamelot, Symphony X, Angra and Sonata Arctica.
After being forced to miss a total of 9 dates due to frontman Robb Flynn’s emergency hernia surgery, Machine Head will be returning to the Dethklok, All That Remians, and The Black Dahlia Murder tour for the November 24th date in Portland, Oregon as expected, and continuing on as scheduled.
Flynn arrived back in the Bay Area on Saturday and has been recuperating at home with his family. Flynn says the experience “Totally sucked balls," but is "feeling stronger now, especially after a heavy listening schedule of Accept's 'Balls To The Wall,' AC/DC's 'Big Balls,' hell, I even found time to record a cover of Soulfly's 'Eye For An Eye,' with the lyrics changed to 'Guts In The Nuts',” "Guts in da nuuuuuuts, guts in da nuts, in da nuts, in da nuts."
Rising new female-fronted U.K act Neverstar has teamed up with Metalunderground.com to premiere the new music video "Lose Control," which was filmed at London’s renowned East End film studios this September. The clip can be viewed below.
The video sees singer Vega Sims trapped and escaping a psychological prison, while her band mates contrast the scene with their live performance. It concludes with Neverstar getting caught in a rainstorm, symbolizing internal turmoil. An extended version of “Lose Control” will be included with the band’s debut album, which will be released during 2013.
Neverstar will also be playing live dates in the U.K. during November and will continue to tour after the debut album comes out next year. For updated info, head over to the band's official website here.
“Lose Control” was released as a digital single last month and is currently playing on stations such as TotalRock Radio, while the group was recently selected as band of the month on femalemetal.com.
Singer Vega Sims commented, “Creating this video has been an immense experience and amazing learning curve. Originally we didn’t plan on releasing a video for this song, but it somehow made sense to take the idea behind the lyrics and bring them to life. Taking the concept to the screen enabled us to refine the band, and demonstrate our passion for the songs in a whole new way. We loved the process so much that we ended up being completely involved." "Godless," the new second album from Danish old school death metallers Deus Otiosus is out now on Deepsend Records. To help launch the release, Bravewords has posted a new track from "Godless" over at this location. The band has issued a track-by-track commentary for the eight-song album that gives an in-depth look on each of the songs on "Godless." Read it below:
#1 "Snakes Of The Low":
"Snakes Of The Low" was one of the last songs we finished for Godless. After the initial rehearsals of the song, we all agreed that this would be the obvious album opener. Its fast and aggressive death-thrash style drips with Nietzschean venom. Yet the song never reaches a pace that could give the wrong idea about the general feel of the album.
#2 "In Harm's Way":
The second song is kick-started by our new drummer, Jesper Olsen. "In Harm's Way" is actually one of the oldest songs on the album, as it was originally written for my former band, Cerekloth, around 2009. But the song has seen a thorough reworking to fit the standards of the new album. Drum-arrangements, guitar harmonies, leads, vocal lines, breaks and the drum intro itself are all new. This mid-paced track is meant to point out that whether it's death metal or rock 'n' roll is immaterial, a good song is a good song.
#3 "New Dawn":
Here Godless almost grinds down to a halt, as "New Dawn" shows the slow, heavy side of the album. As this tune slowly drags forward the image of a new world order is laid out. The heaviest tune on the Murderer album was called "Ashworld", and where the old world burnt in this song, the foundations of a new one are laid in "New Dawn".
#4 "Pest Grave":
After "New Dawn", "Pest Grave" is meant to shock start the heart once again, as the fastest, most raging song of the album so far kicks in. The chorus and pre-chorus to "Pest Grave" were actually among the first things ever written for Deus Otiosus, so the oldest parts are from 2005, while the majority of the song came later as we were writing the rest of Godless. In speed and catchiness "Pest Grave" mimics the black death itself as it spread across medieval Europe.
#5 "Surrounded By The Dead":
"Surrounded By The Dead" is a continuation of the bands' "The Dead"-series started on Murderer with "Thousand Arms Of The Dead"; or could even say by "Death Lives Again" on the demo by the same name. Like it's predecessor "Surrounded By The Dead" shows more a more stylistically traditional approach to old school death metal, obviously accompanied by lyrics about supernatural, undead horror.
#6 "Cast From Heaven":
Like "In Harm's Way" this is one of the oldest songs on the album, originally written during my time in Church Bizarre around 2008 or so. I've always felt that "Cast From Heaven" was the best song I wrote during those days, so I'm glad to finally have it recorded in a good studio version. Once again the song has been heavily re-written and is minutes shorter than the original version. "Cast From Heaven" once again shows a new side of the album, as it takes off into more epic and melodic territory to accompany the Milton-inspired lyrics about the fall of the rebel angels.
#7 "Face The Enemy":
From the melody of "Cast From Heaven" the album reverts right back into one of its most caveman-like moments with the opening riff of "Face The Enemy". An aggressive, violent, up-tempo and straight forward song about stomping down your enemies.
#8 "Death Dance":
If there is a standout track on Godless it is the closer, "Death Dance". Once again the pulse slows down and the melody returns. But that is not all. The song is inspired about the artistic, medieval metaphor of 'La Grande Danse Macabre' or 'Totentanz'; and not just lyrically. "Death Dance" is, as the title suggests, a twisted and morbid death-waltz.
