Soulfly plays Nailbomb at Tampa Show

Those who follow closely the career of Brazilian Metal icon, Max Cavalera, know that Nailbomb's "Point Blank" (his album collaboration with Fudge Tunnel's Alex Newport) probably is one of the most in-your-face recordings the legendary musician has ever produced. That's why Soulfly's current American tour is so historically-poignant. The Cavalera's fronted band is playing the aforementioned 1994 classic album in its entirety. Of course, this is a reason to rejoice.

Soulfly—along with fellow openers Lody Kong and Harm's Way—visited one of Tampa Bay's premier music venues, The Orpheum, on November 1. They played "Point Blank" from start to finish, castigating the audience with classic Nailbomb fare like the rabid "Wasting Away," "24 Hour Bullshit", "Vai Toma No Cú" and "Cockroaches," among many others.

Even if the crowd was modest in numbers—let's remember that it happened on a week day, just after Halloween—the response of those present was tremendously energetic. Cavalera commanded the show with his down-to-earth-yet-larger-than-life stage persona. Song after song, he and his band kept everyone on edge, chanting, moshing, singing along and living the mayhem. No doubt, this Brazilian icon and his comrades still are at the top of their musical powers.

During that night at the Orpheum, Soulfly managed to perfectly channel "Point Blank's" sonic panache. They delivered the most punishing Metal performances witnessed by a Tampa Bay audience this year. If Soulfly visits your town during the remaining dates of this tour, make sure to go and see it. You will be blown away—Nailbomb style.

Thrashback Thursday: Fast As A Shark

In these times of trouble, with political and economic strife at home and abroad, human rights abuses and shows like Ex On The Beach, life can get you down pretty easily. Thursday has usually never been much of a day to look forward to, unless there's a decent sports game on, so we've decided to bring back one of our old columns to get your Thursdays off to a decent start. Every Thursday we'll be looking back on a metal song that's either a classic, a hidden gem or one which will make you say, "Oh! I haven't heard that in years!" Despite the title, it won't always be a thrash metal song, but it will be undisputed metal.

We kick off this reactivated retrospect with a look at one of Germany's all time greatest heavy metal bands, Accept. The band from the town of Solingen in the north of the Bergisches Land have a catalogue of awesome heavy metal staples and picking one is a hard choice, but "Fast As A Shark" has edged its way above many of the other anthems Accept have penned. The opening track from the group's 1982 album, "Restless and Wild" has been featured in a number of video games such as the metal themed adventure Brutal Legend and several films, including being played over one of the most awesome scenes in film history, towards the end of the Italian horror favourite, "Demons," wherein the main character rides a motorcycle through a cinema, decapitating creatures with a samurai sword, all to the sound of this metal masterpiece. Arsis Premieres A Medley Of New Songs

Arsis premieres a medley of new songs without vocals via a playthrough video below. States Malone on the new album:

"Since the conclusion of the touring cycle for Unwelcome, myself and the members of Arsis have been busy with other projects, but I'm happy to announce that a new album is almost finished! After returning home from a tour with Necromancing The Stone last March, I began writing for the next Arsis release and soon found myself completely consumed in the process. I don't want to make an incredibly bold statement and say something to the effect of 'it's our best effort since (insert the highest regarded album title here)' but I can say that I have not been this focused on a project since working on A Diamond for Disease. I feel that this focus is reflected in the music and I look forward to the album's completion."

Check out now the medley below.
