Bald Freak Music, label for New Jersey progressive rock/metal act Return To Earth, has just issued the following press release:
"Accomplished & influential drummer Chris Pennie, founding member of Dillinger Escape Plan and current member of progressive rock acts Coheed And Cambria and Return To Earth, announced today that he is exiting Coheed And Cambria. Pennie and the band cited 'creative differences' as the primary reasons for the split after the drummer’s 4-year tenure with the band.
"Pennie officially joined Coheed in 2007, replacing drummer Josh Eppard and touring extensively with the band internationally. He is featured on Coheed’s most recent studio album, 'Year of the Black Rainbow.'
"Pennie will shift his full attention to his most recent projects, acclaimed progressive metal band Return To Earth (Metal Blade/Bald Freak) and Fight Mannequins. Return To Earth is currently working on their third album after releasing their Metal Blade debut, Automata, in 2010. Fight Mannequins, Pennie’s music production company with Return To Earth guitarist Brett Aveni, recently completed their first documentary score and have produced two exciting artists whose albums will be released in 2012.
"'I am very thankful for the times I shared the stage with the guys in Coheed and especially want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I've met while on tour,' said Pennie. 'There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins that I feel require 100 percent of my commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen.'"
This news comes a mere three months on the heels of Coheed And Cambria bassist Michael Todd's arrest for robbery and his subsequent firing by the band.

SPV/Steamhammer has closed a worldwide deal with the German Nitrogods. The release dates for the band's self-titled debut album are as follows:
Europe February 27th 2012
Germany February 24th 2012
USA / Canada - early March 2012
A statement from the band's publicist reads as follows:
"No more endless studio fakes, sound samples, artificial drum overdubs and computer-controlled corrections of suboptimal lead vocals. The time has come to return to the true values of rock music, namely honesty, solid craftsmanship and real lifeblood. To cut a long story short: the time has come for NITROGODS! The motto of this spectacular new rock trio: three men, three corners, and down-to-earth no-bullshit rock'n'roll!
"The band may still be unfamiliar to the public at large, but the three members are renowned musicians with illustrious histories to look back on. Guitarist Henny Wolter founded Thunderhead in 1988, played with Primal Fear, respectively Sinner for number of years and was part of the Rock Meets Classic tour band. Drummer Klaus Sperling (Freedom Call) was also with Primal Fear for a long time. And at the epicentre of the Nitrogods soundquake is a heavyweight who is impressive in every respect: Oimel Larcher, a bear of a musician whose bass performance stands for sheer power and whose voice unmistakably reflects countless litres of beer and whiskey. 'I wanted to return to playing the music that I love,' says Henny Wolter, 'and that only works if you play it with your best friends.' More...

This past June, Toronto metal troupe Mastery entered Studio 57 at Music Lab in Austin, Texas with producer Tim Gerron and recorded the band's as-yet-untitled full-length.
The album was mixed by Tim Gerron and Dan Korneff at House of Loud Studios in Elmwood Park, New Jersey last month.
Mastery was founded by guitarist Markus Armellini in Toronto. With no luck finding a vocalist that could compliment the intensity and aggression of the music, the band’s debut, "Lethal Legacy," was unleashed as an instrumental in North America in 2006 and in Europe one year later.
Following the release, Mastery toured the States extensively. It was at a show in Austin where the band met vocalist Billy Milano of M.O.D./S.O.D. Combined with Armellini, drummer Mike Harshaw, bassist Tim “Tank” Casterline, and lead guitarist Kelly Fitzsimmons, Mastery is finally ready to scorch the ears of unsuspecting metallers globally.
Further details on Mastery are available by heading over to the band's official Facebook profile at this location.

Chilean heavy metal barbarians Battlerage are coming back with a brand new studio album, titled "True Metal Victory," which is their 3rd CD to be released by Metal On Metal Records. The record label commented on "True Metal Victory:"
"Those who know previous albums of Battlerage, will know what to expect (and those who don't, shouldn't have doubts either, even just by looking at the album title): gruff vocals, pummeling drums, thundering bass and killer riffs, as well as some tasteful solos. Battlerage still delivers fist pounding attacks in the vein of GRAVE DIGGER and PARAGON, as well as epic anthems reminiscent of early MANOWAR and OMEN. Epic, raw and honest heavy metal from the most prominent Chilean band playing this style ever since their formation in 2002."

"So spread the news people, and be sure to check back, because next week we start writing the next chapter of Katana's history!"
U.K. based black metallers Deuteronomy have checked in with the following recording update:
"Bass recording is complete: The bass guitar was finished yesterday, the sound is really heavy and dirty, it will fit perfectly with all the other instruments and it will be surely mixed in the front. Guitar reamping is booked. In late November the band will visit miloco studios here in London in order to reamp the guitars.
"Drums: Drummer Volac will be back from the Demonical tour in a few days and will start recording the drums as soon as possible.
"In conclusion, all the instruments will be 100% ready in this month and the mixing will start immediately. Prepare yourself for brutal black metal against Judaism and Christianity..."
New York thrash outfit Anthrax released albums such as “Spreading the Disease” and “Among the Living,” in the 1980s, which will forever be understood as not only classic thrash albums but classic heavy metal in general. In 1992, Anthrax replaced singer Joey Belladonna with John Bush from Armored Saint. Even though the group stepped down the speed of earlier recordings, the first two Bush albums, “The Sound of White Noise” and “Stomp 442” were well received. Then the group experienced a blurry period, releasing only "Volume 8 - The Threat Is Real" in 1998 and “We’ve Come For You All” in 2003.
Belladonna rejoined in 2005 only to be ousted in 2007 to make way for an unknown singer named Dan Nelson. In 2010, Anthrax returned to its greatest glory in twenty years as part of the Big 4 European Tour (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth) and Festival in California. American fans were afforded the chance to see three of the big four thrash bands with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax that very summer on the “American Carnage” tour. This tour was a return to the “Clash of the Titans” lineup, bar Alice in Chains, of 1991.
These tours surely recharged the group’s batteries. A year later, the group has released what many consider the best Anthrax album since…well, since the last album featuring Joey Belladonna. Belladonna may not touch the sky in a Halford fashion on “Worship Music,” but good luck finding a vocalist with as much passion and tone clarity. As he proved on stage after this interview, he can still hit every high note with perfection. “Worship Music” relates a modern sound that just doesn’t warrant this type of vocal style. With said album came a headlining tour with Testament and Death Angel in tow (read the show report).
Metal Underground went backstage to speak with Joey about returning to the group and their recent resurgence. Drummer, Charlie Benante sat next to us in the dressing room, playing an unplugged electric guitar. Guitarist Scott Ian came in to give exciting news about the crowd and comment on Belladonna’s vocal talents. Belladonna frantically changed clothes, hurrying to make way for our interview. While putting on a clean t-shirt he alluded to the movie “Airplane,” saying, “Have you ever seen a grown man naked, Joey?” Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda warmed up his voice outside the door, letting loose soaring, eagle screams. This all made for an interesting and somewhat hectic interview, but other than a few words obscured by Osegueda’s voice, Belladonna gave us a candid look at his life as the front man for thrash legends Anthrax. Moonsorrow is very different then other Folk/Pagan metal bands in the genre, while they may not be giving us happy drinking songs, they have a strong and very distinct appeal that has made them a successful band. Following the release of their last album "Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa" Moonsorrow has been quite busy! I caught up with Ville Sorvali prior to the start of this years
Metalheim Festival where we talked about their first Asian tour, the new album as well as some ideology and what the Moonsorrow concert experience should be. More...
