Stream Of Passion Posts Tour Blog

Stream of Passion has posted a new tour blog online from the band's Canadian tour dates. An excerpt from the blog follows:

"Monday, October 11, 2010 - No Sleep 'till Quebec: 7 AM. I'm wide awake. Today will be the day we all fly to Montreal to start our Canadian/Quebecian journey. Slightly nervous, as it's always a small gamble to check in your guitar at the desk. Hoping you'll get it back once you landed on the other side of the ocean. Also saying goodbye to my wife and my little daughter is not my favorite past-time. Still, I'm all psyched and ready to go. After I dropped my daughter off at school and promised her to bring back the princess dress that her Canadian grandma & grandpa bought her, I'm heading towards Amsterdam Airport. At 10.30 sharp I'm at the departure hall, awaiting the arrival of the other band members. They slowly start pouring in and we start blocking the hall with all the bags and flight cases. After checking in, and waving goodbye to our instruments, the waiting for take-off starts. While lounging at the local McDonald's Johan brings forth a surprise in the form of our Canadian tour sound engineer. No one less than Endre, the incredibly capable and overly funny Norwegian sound guy we met last tour will be handling our sound. This tour is gonna rock!!

"The next few hours were filled with boarding a plane, watching in-flight movies, being silly, the odd nap or 2, and some airplane food. And then we finally landed at Montreal airport. Anxious times as we went through passport control. The next hour or so was spent at Immigration Service who asked us several questions and made a few calls to make sure that we traveled from the Netherlands just to play some shows and nothing else. We were allowed to enter the country after all and after we reunited with our bags and gear we met up with tour promoter and keyboard player of Manahil, Mathieu Fiset. A 4 hour drive to Quebec City was lying ahead of us. So we got everything that's Stream of Passion into the van and off we went. The French-Canadian landscape rolled by and I think we were all needed some getting used to the different sights and the fact that we were more than 5000 kilometers away from home. This was going to be something else. More...

Bret Michaels Life As I Know It Episode 3

This week begins in Phoenix, AZ where Bret takes his daughter to a Children’s Hospital to talk about diabetes with some of the patients. Overall, a nice gesture despite the Celebrity Apprentice and Snapple promotion on the side, also, Bret dropped the phrase “You’re going to be awesome” to a little kid. If you use an entertainment level scale with a range of 1 to 10 we are hovering around .5. This looks like this might change when a fan asks Bret to go see her brother, who is unable to get out of his hospital bed. The brother? Well, it’s a new born child and Bret makes a bad joke. So for entertainment purposes, what if… More...

The follow-up to 2008’s "Programmed To Consume" has been set for a February 1st North American release date (February 7th – UK, February 11th – Germany, Benelux, February 14th – rest of EU). Additional album details including album art and track listing will be posted shortly.

Abysmal Dawn began recording "Leveling The Plane of Existence" in May 2010. Guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott recently commented on the album: "After a series of set backs, illness, and going through a world of shit in our personal lives, we had no choice but to make this record our revenge and the defining moment for Abysmal Dawn. We've had the finished mixes for about a week now and everyone that has heard it has been just blown away. We can already tell that this will be the record that the band will become known for. It's a very varied, extreme, technical, and melodic record and I can promise you that no one will be disappointed."

Pit Stories: Attack of the Killer Mic

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week J Michalski, vocalist and bassist for the Red Deer, Alberta-based death metal band Awkward Silence sends in a short pit story:

Awkward Silence was playing a show at Vern's Tavern in Calgary, AB. We were playing the song "Choke Out Your Pride." I walk up to the mic for the first line of the song when two guys collide right in front of me, barrel roll into my mic and it slams into my eye. The mic flew somewhere off stage by the sound board, and the mic stand collapsed, so I started walking over to the other mic, just to have it thrown away by the pit. That's when I felt the blood dripping from my eye. We finished the song as an instrumental, the audience started yelling something about me bleeding from the eye. I told them they were f'n crazy... Vern's erupted in applause and cheering. Metal!

You can check out some of Awkward Silence's music on the band’s MySpace page.

Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Metallica Playing "Black Ops" Release Show

Metallica has issued the following announcement about playing a release show for the "Call of Duty: Black Ops" video game:

"Our friends over at Activision, the fine folks who bring you the 'Guitar Hero' games, noticed a small hole in the Metalli-tour schedule in between Australian dates and rang us up to invite us to the launch of their next 'Call of Duty' game, 'Black Ops.' One thing led to another and next thing we know, we're playing at the party! Kinda like that top secret (yeah, right!) show we did in Austin at the South By Southwest Music Festival when our 'Guitar Hero' game was released in March of 2009.

"The end result is that on this Thursday, November 4, we'll be in Santa Monica, CA rockin' at the Santa Monica airport, Hangar 8. In addition to celebrating the release of 'Call of Duty: Black Ops,' the event will raise funds for The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit organization that helps soldiers transition to civilian life and assists them in establishing jobs and careers. Tickets will not go on sale, but we have a limited number of passes for Fan Club members to attend. If you're a Met Club member and will be in the L.A. area in a few days, head over to this location to find out how you can win a pair of tickets.

"A big thanks to the Activision staff for inviting us as we sneak one more show in before the World Magnetic tour ends in Australia."

"Power Quest has finished the recording part of their new album ‘BLOOD ALLIANCE’, the follow up to 2008's ‘Master of Illusion’. The recording of ‘BLOOD ALLIANCE’ has now finished at Foel Studios. Big thanks to Chris Fielding and Dave Anderson for all their hard work over the month we spent there. We worked 14 hours per day most days and everyone was pretty much destroyed by the end of the session but we are all extremely pleased with the results! Mixing is due to commence at Remaster Studio in Vicenza on November 2nd.

"Nick Savio, who mixed ‘Master Of Illusion’ will again be in the hot seat for this. Release dates are currently being discussed with Napalm and everything is on course for a February 2011 release. The Boy Will Drown Issues Final Tour Report

British technical death metallers THE BOY WILL DROWN have just completed a headlining tour of Europe. The band played throughout mainland Europe and the UK with support from the likes of FORGETTOFORGIVE and ERADICATION, and are now having a break before heading back out on the road for another European tour in January.

THE BOY WILL DROWN bassist JAMES BATES looks back on the tour:

"It has been almost a month of touring and what an experience it has been - three amazing bands each leg and lots of places."

"29th September - 8th October; It was great touring with the 'Heights' guys to kick start it off with gigs in Edinburgh and Grimsby, which were particularly memorable, encountering our first fan with a TBWD tattoo (photos on our social networking sites). These boys are awesome and will no doubt go on to big things. Writing this email about the start of the tour seems such a long time ago now."

"9th October - 18th October; Touring round mainland Europe to Holland, Italy, Austria and Belgium (with a lil visit to Switzerland in between) was absolutely incredible - the gigs we've done and sights we've seen will never be forgotten. The 'Forgettoforgive' guys are possibly some of the nicest, most dedicated guys we've ever met and having the opportunity to take our good friend Ryan Mason (from Ryan Mason Imaging) to document and help out was a real pleasure. Tour highlights have been uploaded to our Tumblr (http://tbwd.tumblr.com) by Ryan and it's amazing. You should all check it out. More videos and photos will be coming from him soon." More...

Stryper Comments On Covers Album

Michael Sweet of Christian act Stryper has checked in with the following statement about the band's upcoming all covers album:

"Hello everyone, long time no type! I've been very busy traveling and moving two homes into one and it's been a very slow process getting unpacked and settled. My apologies for not updating all of you sooner. I try really hard (and enjoy) keeping all of you in the loop on everything that we do.

"I wanted to let all of you know that the concept for 'The Covering' is very powerful and rings true to the power of God's love upon our lives. God's covering is transforming and life changing and we thought it would be very cool to visually portray that through the new artwork. Chris at Pale Horse Design has designed a character that represents the bad or 'the evil' side if you will, in us all. The booklet, (in comic book style) will tell a story of good conquering evil and therefore leading to the transformation of the main character. I received the front cover and I have to tell you that it's modern, powerful, edgy and thought provoking. It is awesome! More...

Amaranthe Posts New Studio Blog

Amaranthe has checked in with the following update from the recording studio through CrankItUp.se:

"Hey everyone! After getting spammed by a bunch of you English speaking folks with confusing Google translations etc, we decided to write the next entrance in the studio diary in English instead!

"Life is pretty good here at Jacob Hansen's ranch, and the life we're living is not that far away from being farmers, except we milk clichéd chord progressions instead of cows ;) Or a little bit like serving a prison sentence - but spending all day recording metal (and drinking a few beers to!)

"Last week we finished up all the rhyhtm guitar tracks, and it is sounding pretty massive! I went for a nice 5150/ENGL fireball combo, and I am actually tracking 2 guitars only for every song instead of 4 or even 8. The sound is still HUGE, but much more personal than the average wall of guitars everyone's completely used to today. We're heading in the same direction with the drums, where we're only using triggers for the bass drum - all to get a more natural yet powerful feel to the final result! More...

Featuring past and present members of Dead Infection and Tehace, CALM HATCHERY has completed putting the final touches on "Sacrilege Of Humanity." "Our new album is quite diverse" CH guitarist Huzar comments on the content of new release. "We tried to combine technically advanced parts with some kind of simplicity and directness to get better contrast and avoid being monotonous. There are also some solutions that put more space into music – just to step aside for a moment from death metal standards. There are lots of melodies, but the album is still uncompromising. Sacrilege Of Humanity doesn't promote hate, but is rather cumulating some form of cosmic energy flowing from minds of five people. Periphery Comments On Upcoming Tour Dates

PERIPHERY will be embarking on a North American tour alongside Darkest Hour, labelmates Veil of Maya and Revocation this Nov/Dec. Guitarist Misha Mansoor checks in with his thoughts on the upcoming tour and future plans:

“Hey everyone, it's been an amazing whirlwind of a year for PERIPHERY and there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We are currently preparing for a long tour with Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is going to be a blast and we can't wait to get back out there to play for everyone. Also, we encourage everyone to come and meet us at our merch booth after each and every show to come and hang with us. We love hearing feedback from our fans and getting a chance to meet new people."

“We also will have a fresh new, longer setlist with a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW SONG and a few fun surprises just for this tour. We are also giving lessons on our respective instruments (a lot of days are already booked!), so please come out early to see us and jam with us. Contact us on myspace or facebook if you are interested in lessons."

“I am also really happy to announce that PERIPHERY is well into the writing process for our upcoming EP. We have tracked most of the instrumentation and vocals and are making final tweaks on everything but you guys are in for a treat. There will be some re-tweaked material, some rare material and some brand new material on it so there will be something for everyone." More...
