The Swiss industrial wizards in Sybreed have unleashed a fourth full-length album titled "God is an Automaton" (reviewed here), which bridges the gaps between the previous three and still moves the band forward into new territory.
With the album out now, guitarist "Drop" was eager to chat about the new release and what went into writing and recording these tracks. Drop also discussed the album's artwork being handled by Seth of Greek act Septicflesh, and the title of the album referring "to the fact that there are people willing to use the excuse of a higher being as a justification to their deeds and misdeeds." Every week we dig deep into the metal scene and unearth three acts that are unsigned or simply less well known than many other bands. Today we look at a mecca for metal in general and black metal in particular: Norway.
The country has taken on a sort of mythical level of significance for underground enthusiasts, where one imagines a tribunal of grim metal masters passing judgment on what is and is not trve black metal, but despite that impression the country houses a variety of musicians that cover the musical spectrum and frequently cross genre lines. While anyone familiar with the scene will likely be well acquainted with the likes of Emperor or Mayhem, there are still plenty of unknown hard rock and metal bands hidden there to discover.
Beyond the Morninglight
Breaking ranks with the sound that has put Norway onto the extreme metal map, Beyond the Morninglight is a gloomy and atmospheric rock and roll act that drops the harsh vocals and many of the heavier elements. What it lacks in brutality it makes up for in an infectious version of metal-influenced rock that gets stuck in the head.
The band has two full-length releases now, a self-titled debut and the newly released “Liberation” album, which takes an even darker turn. You can stream both of the full Beyond the Morninglight releases through Misantrof ANTI-Records, or you can check out two songs, one from each album, in the clips below.

Since releasing their debut album, “Awaiting Evil,” via Metal Blade in 2008, and completing 3 full DIY U.S. tours, Hatchet went through some lineup changes, which stalled overall progress of the group. Throughout the changes, founding member Julz Ramos always had the passion to keep the band going, even moving to take on vocal duties. Now the band has settled down with a new lineup and readying its sophomore effort, “Dawn of the End,” which will be released on their new label, The End Records, in March of 2013.
Julz commented on the signing to The End Records:
Hatchet is beyond thrilled to announce our signing to The End Records. They have a vast array of genres and styles within the label and it will be very interesting and exciting to see how Hatchet can expand its sonic force within the label. We have been shopping our new full length album to various key labels, however The End's straight forward interest, excitement and approach to the band was a refreshing one for us to see. Further talks have only strengthened this feeling and we are happy to see the label already has some ideas and avenues they are thinking about to help push us in the right direction. Album details and release dates to shortly follow.
Greek symphonic metallers Nightfall have launched a landing page featuring the artwork and a new song off their upcoming new album "Cassiopeia." Surf over to this location to check out the pre-order possibilities and the lyric video for "Oberon & Titania."
Singer Efthimis Karadimas comments regarding the concept of the album: "Cassiopeia has a specific thesis and though its name is linked to both the constellation and the mythical character of Andromeda's mother, it refers to arrogance as leading characteristic of the human race; the outcome of this and the overweening state of affairs are so popular these harsh days everywhere. The entire world seems to be shifting from its previous position to a new one and all and each one of us that used to feel like masters of our destiny are now starting to wonder about when, where and how this transition will end. It may be a punishment like Cassiopeia and Andromeda who claimed themselves more beautiful even to nereids suffered, or it may be just another change. Time will certainly tell."
Efthimis also stated about the "Oberon & Titania" track: "The song is based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream couple; He is the king of fairies and She is the fairy queen. Despite their apparent close relationship, they end up forcefully using their powers and skills against each other; like maniacs blinded by light of passion and haughtiness they drag themselves to the lowest dungeons of nature. It is the ceaseless passion between two beings; passion that unites before it destroys anything around it once unleashed. It is true we are nothing when it comes to sustaining our gratefulness in front of desire. We are born broken in a dilute world poets' admiration cannot disguise. And none can break the broken."
"Cassiopeia" will be released the 18th of January, 2013 via Metal Blade Records in Europe. The recordings for "Cassiopeia" took place in four different places, something Nightfall is quite familiar with. Vocals and keys were recorded in Greece (Soundflakes studios & Cyberia) while the drums got hammered down in Germany in the Soundlodge studios. Guitars and bass were recorded in the U.S. in Nashville, Tennessee in the Boomcave studios. More...

Missouri act As Shadows Collapse has posted a new music video online for the track "Knowledge is Power," which can be found below. The band also posted the following biography online:
"As Shadows Collapse was formed by a friend, and three brothers finding interest in an instrument, along with the new found passion for metal music. Nathan Summerfield, along with Matt, Joe, and Dusty Sherman went through two vocalists and one guitarist as the years went by, trying to find dedicated members who could share the determination for success that they posses. Fortunately they found Brandon Fletcher and Travis Box to fill the void left by the dismissed (Nathan, Jesse, and Ira). Their new lineup consisted of Travis on vocals, Brandon on bass, Matt on drums, Dusty and Joe on guitar.
"Devotion complications aside, As Shadows Collapse made a name for themselves with such feats as performing with the Autumn Offering, Within The Ruins, Oceano, War Of Ages, Threat Signal and Whitechapel. They booked a Mini-tour that took them from Lawton, Oklahoma to Dallas, Texas.
"Competing in the Project Independent showcase of 2009 proved that they were starting to impress everyone since they placed 4th in the nation in fan votes out of 300 bands. With their high-voltage energy on stage and hard work off stage, their unwavering drive to make their name heard by everyone will never weaken."

Pallbearer may have started around 1 pm, but kept its audience in mourning. The group moved with the deliberation and anguish of its namesake. Guitarists Brett Campbell and Devin Holt dropped emotional bombs with weight comparable to receiving bereaving news. Campbell used an effect to make his voice appear distant like a ghost whispering in the ear of its lost lover. This was the third time in the last year I caught these Arkansas melancholic musicians, which is special since they only have one album of material to display: Profound Lore released their debut full-length recording, “Sorrow and Extinction,” in February.

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of the Butcher Babies to their worldwide family of artists. The label comments:
"Hailing from Los Angeles, the Butcher Babies have emerged as one of the biggest draws on the Sunset Strip, their incendiary blend of heavy metal and horror-inspired theatrics inciting crowds worldwide.
"Fronted by Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepherd - named two of the year's 'Hottest Women In Rock' by Revolver Magazine - the blood-splattered band left their mark on the United Kingdom in June, appearing on the Download festival and supporting Anthrax in Cardiff. They returned to America as direct support for Otep in fall, and are wrapping up their first headlining tour tonight in front of a hometown crowd at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. The band - vocalists Harvey and Shepherd, guitarist Henry Flury, bassist Jason Klein and drummer Chris Warner - will be performing with labelmates In This Moment tomorrow night in Las Vegas."

"Álaghom intends to demonstrate that it is possible to transcend into progressive metal without the need to give up our language, rebuilding the meaning of our mythical and cultural heritage of our people with an original proposal."

Today Hells Headbangers announces the signing of Singapore's Impiety for a new single and full-length album, both to come in 2013. Impiety has worked with such labels as Osmose Productions, Agonia Records, and most recently had the crushing eighth album, "Ravage & Conquer," released through Pulverised Records.
Impiety just returned from an eight-date Asian tour and is now ready to ravage and conquer during yet another European run later this month with Enthroned and Forgotten Tomb. Details on that string of tour date are available here.
"I've long admired the works of Hells Headbangers," says founding frontman Shyaithan. "They have always put out killer albums from dedicated bands, and it came by much surprise recently that they have shown great enthusiasm and concern to work with Impiety. We definitely look forward to an infernal 2013 with Hells Headbangers."
After the November European tour, Impiety will seal the writing phase and record a new four-song MCD entitled "The Impious Crusade."

U.K. based extreme metal act Kinasis has posted the following message online about completing the recording process for a new album:
"6 weeks of evening sessions later and all of the album has been recorded. Everything is now out of our hands. We've just got to sit and wait for Justin's mastered mixes to arrive. Can't wait to listen back!
"Instead of rehearsing, this weekend we're sorting out some ideas for the artwork and making some additional notes for Justin, to allow him to make sense of our pro-tools files and understand the setup we used to record the tracks. (mics used, mic placements, naming conventions used in files etc...You get the idea, basically studio geek-speak!)"
You can also check out the band's music and download tracks over at the Kinasis Facebook profile here.
It was announced yesterday that legendary Norwegian musician Ihsahn had joined the God of Atheists project, and now band mastermind Asgeir Mickelson has checked in with the following update about progress on a new album:
"I assume many of you liked the news about Ihsahn joining the project. In fact he agreed to play on it close to three years ago, but I've had a few speed bumps in my life along the way, so he didn't get the songs until maybe two months ago. And, well, I'm not the fastest on this planet either...
"The project is coming along fine right now. Ihsahn is working on the third song, Tideman is recording his neck breaking solos in January, bass player recording his parts around Christmas (you'll know who when we start recording. Rest assured - he's awesome! And, no, it's not Santa Claus), Vortex is eagerly waiting to record the vocals but I have to finish the damn lyrics first. I am a slow writer too (surprise), I am half way into it and quite happy with how vicious it's turning out (psychologically vicious, not blood gore vicious). It will be about 40% clean and 60% grim vocals. Some song titles are 'The Sapient's Error,' 'Fountain of Emptiness,' 'Cataclysm,' and (probably) 'I am God.' These titles might change along the way but it's where I'm at right now.
"Except for the two songs I wrote for the last Sarke album I am totally aware of the fact that you guys only know me as a drummer, so all I can say is that you'll just have to wait and judge for yourself if I'm capable as a song writer and guitarist too. Some of the songs were the most challenging stuff Trym has ever recorded on drums, so the only thing I can promise is that God Of Atheists is no commercial soft shit! If I get a decent deal I'll have the album out before summer." More...

According to a statement, the band's mission is to "create a deep brand of cold and confronting music, part hypnotic yet often disturbing, focusing from an avant-garde take upon black metal, whilst always striving to explore a wide musical spectrum."
