Devin Townsend has posted the following video update online to promote the recording of the following Devin Townsend Project album, "Deconstruction." You can view the video below:
In October, California based melodic death metal act Conducting From The Grave dropped its second full-length album "Revenants," and follow-up to 2009's "When Legends Become Dust." Conducting From the Grave guitarist Jeff Morgan spoke with me about the band switching vocalists for this album, where the band's distinctive name came from, and the possibility of an upcoming music video.
While explaining how the new album differs from the band's earlier work, Morgan commented "I like to think the song writing is a lot more mature on this album. We’ve definitely progressed a lot over the years as musicians. A lot of stuff from the previous album 'When Legends Becomes Dust' was written over the course of five or six years...I think it’s a lot more of a cohesive sound for the whole album." Morgan also discussed upcoming tour dates with Arsis and the themes of the album's lyrics. More...
American technical death metal act Origin has announced its signing with Nuclear Blast Records. The worldwide deal comes in time for the band to prepare its forthcoming full length album. Origin will enter Chapman Recording Studios in Lenexa, Kansas tomorrow with long-time engineer Robert Rebeck to record its Nuclear Blast debut.
Drummer John Longstreth commented by saying: "We are very excited to begin working on our next album under the guide of Nuclear Blast Records! Being signed to one of the largest and most successful heavy metal labels makes it only natural that you will definitely be seeing a lot more of this band. Plans are already being laid by Extreme Management Group for the U.S., Europe, Asia, South America, Mexico and pretty much everywhere with a stage and (future) Origin fans. To us, it's only fitting that after 10 years, it came time to make a few positive changes so that we could continue to create this insane form of music for you. We are very excited to bring album #5 to our fans and we feel confident that our fans will not be let down."
Winds of Plague vocalist Johnny Plague has checked in from the road with the following tour report:
"We are currently wrapping up the last days of our European tour. We had an amazing time with out good friends in Stick To Your Guns and For Today, as well as our new friends from the UK, Monuments. Concluding our first headline run in Europe we are looking forward to putting out a new record and heading back over seas to continue our worldwide onslaught.
"Before we get back to Europe and the UK we have some other business to attend to including the December Decimation tour where we will be headlining U.S. tour dates with a stacked undercard featuring After The Burial, Carnifex, War Of Ages and Upon A Burning Body. For this tour we will be playing a song off the new record, which is set for a March 2011 release. Prepare for annihilation."
As was previously announced, Texas based act Absu will join Immortal on the black metal act's return to the U.S. for six shows early next year. The dates will mark the first live performances for Absu since the Scion Rock Fest in March of this year. Drummer/vocalist Proscriptor notes:
"We feel extremely privileged to have been invited to participate on Immortal’s All Shall Fall US tour in February 2011. Even though it is only a six-date tour, it’s a colossal one for Absu to be performing with our former label mates of many years. We had the opportunity to share the stage with Immortal over eight years ago and this will be a very good experience for us."
These upcoming performances will mark the first time that Absu will appear live as a trio. Proscriptor comments, "I am here to announce that guitarist Aethyris McKay has decided to quit Absu and has recently relocated to Oslo, Norway to join Pantheon I. Working with Aethyris for the past three years has been a prosperous experience and I have the utmost respect for him as my comrade and a superlative musician. He assisted me in resurrecting the band from its hiatus stage and I truly thank him for helping me recast the spell of mythological occult metal."
The dates are as follows:
2/19/2011 Gramercy Theater - New York, NY
2/20/2011 Sonar - Baltimore, MD
2/21/2011 Mr. Small's Theatre - Pittsburgh, PA
2/22/2011 Bottom Lounge - Chicago, IL
2/24/2011 The Summit Theatre - Denver, CO
2/26/2011 Backstage Live - San Antonio, TX
After completion of the dates with Immortal, Absu will enter the studio to begin recording a new album, titled "Abzu." The recording will be the second of a three-part series. Proscriptor reveals, "This recording will feature our signature sound in maniacal fashion. Now, we’re appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion characteristics. Lyrically, it will descend deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System. I can tell you this album will definitely not be a 'natural progression' from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness." More...
This week Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) was asked to leave a bar and instead of politely grabbing his top hat and heading for the door he smashed a wine glass and then bit the owner’s hand. Can someone get this ex-Celebrity Fit Club guy a sandwich? To make matters worse Canadian cops found two grams of weed on Bach. So not only was Bach hungry from dieting, but also smoking pot. In hindsight the owner is lucky Bach didn’t eat his whole hand… More...

Misery Index has posted the following new tour blog on Demockery.org about the band's current European tour:
"Today we are back in the land of overcast, misty cold mountains- more resembling Mordor than 'der Schweitz.' Reflecting back on our Italian weekend, a few highlights come to mind…First on Friday we played this youth center in Bruneck, Italy, a town on the border with Austria, and fully German speaking. I wandered that afternoon up the mountain overlooking the village, and came across a winding trail that was straight out of Entombed’s 'Left hand Path' album cover -yet it was daytime and far less eerie. Around a bend there unfolded a German soldier’s cemetery from the First and Second World Wars. It was in immaculate condition, and the wood-carved grave markers were in absolute perfect upkeep….
"The second highlight was the chance to have the entire day to wander around Rome. The entire tour package followed our adventurous tour manager/tour guide Jay around all the sights, on a brilliant day that could not have been anymore perfect. Sitting here in Switzerland we yearn for the south once more, and are to be rewarded with a trio of days in Spain, starting with our favorite town Barcelona on Wednesday…any ghosts in Catalonia want to come out?"

Stratovarius keyboardist Jens Johansson has posted the following statement online:
"Dear STRATOVARIUS fans, I am afraid we have some quite terrible news. News of the worst imaginable kind. It's about our friend and drummer Jörg Michael.
"Jörg has cancer.
"He recently discovered a lump on his neck, went to the doctor, they decided to operate, and found what they call 'a malignant thyroid neoplasm.' They took out his whole thyroid just to have the best chance to get everything out. He will also have to undergo a regimen of radiotherapy.
"He is a fighter. We have all talked to him and it's clear that this guy is not down for the count. He and his team of German doctors are pissed off and ready to kick ass, and I would not want to be a little cancer cell on these guys' shit list.. believe me.
"Jörg and his family (and us guys in the band) found this out only last week, after the operation. Naturally we are all going between a lot of emotions, sadness, worry, shock, confusion, even anger.
"As for STRATOVARIUS, as you perhaps know, there is a long tour coming up with HELLOWEEN, and with the surgery and therapy that will now follow there is no way Jörg can do the first part of the tour. For me personally, I at first felt quite hopeless about the tour, because I was so upset about all this news. But Jörg himself has been extremely clear that he does not want the band to cancel a single show because of this. In the end, this is what made at least me feel better about going back hitting the road next week.
"So, we have debated what to do for many days now. Jörg first suggested my brother Anders to do this November-December 2010 leg, but it turns out Anders will, unfortunately, be busy recording some record or other with that little indie cellar band of his called HAMMERFALL. :o)
"After a lot of searching, we found a guy that both can do it and didn't have other commitments: Alex Landenburg. He plays well, Jörg says he is a great guy (very important!) and he even started learning the set already before we even had decided what to do, which to me shows a lot of dedication. You can Google Alex's name if you are curious.
"So it turns out that STRATOVARIUS will do the first leg of the HELLOWEEN '7 Sinners' tour, just as planned, only not with Jörg behind the kit, but with Jörg very much as a motivator to us being there. Not one single date will be cancelled or changed.
"Jörg wants to be back on the road with us again as soon as possible depending on the thearapy, but we are not making any promises; that one is up to powers even higher than Jörg Michael and his doctors.
"We will try to keep you somewhat updated.
"Anyway, the most important thing is that they think they got all the bad stuff out and that the end result is that we just fix that sentence I wrote above. We will then say: Jörg had cancer. But he beat it."
Canadian thrash act Annihilator escaped a fire on Wednesday night, shortly after playing to a packed house in Nottingham, England while on a European headlining tour. The band had to cancel the show on November 19th in Birmingham due the fire. Earache Records issued the following statement about the situation:
"Annihilator were packing up their gear from the Rescue Rooms venue in Nottingham city centre at around 1:00am when a large fire broke out next door. 1,400 people were evacuated from the venue as well as others from surrounding buildings. No one was injured in the incident.
"Emergency services were called to the scene and were still putting the fire out on Thursday afternoon, causing significant disruption to the city's transport services. Some of Annihlator's equipment was still in the venue at the time of the fire and the band and its crew were unable to retrieve it until Thursday. View photos of the fire at: this location and here. Annhilator have now retrieved their equipment and are able to continue with their tour." More...

Dutch symphonic metal act Within Temptation has commented on its forthcoming studio album, titled "The Unforgiving" "The Unforgiving" is a concept album based on comic books by Steven O'Connell.
"On this album, we've taken a totally different approach. Each song on 'The Unforgiving' was written along Steven's narrative. The main characters of the comic are reflecting the characters of our songs. The concept pushed us and gave inspiration to come up with a new approach in our sound. It resulted in writing our best songs so far.
"We have been big comic fans since our childhood. With this album we felt the time was there to take a new step in our creative development, take it further and broaden our horizon. Next to the concept form of the album, the songs are more diverse than ever before. In addition, the music of the late '80s, that's when we started to read comic books, certainly has left a mark on our new sound."
"The Unforgiving" is set for release sometime in early 2011.

Metallica has posted the following message explaining the infamous "Baby Kicker" video:
"In the whacky world of rock'n'roll, sometimes stuff happens which looks even weirder than it really is! And with context being vital in these situations, we just wanted to address something which happened on the tour the other night regarding a large beachball, a band member's foot and a little girl. Some of you will have seen on youtube (or read in some reports) that Kirk knocked a small child offstage by kicking a beachball at her. That little lady is the daughter of the stage manager and dressing coordinator, who are fortunate to travel as a family on this tour. She was thoroughly enjoying watching the beachballs drop from the rafters, Kirk was thoroughly enjoying kicking the beachballs off the stage and back into the crowd as has been done every night on the tour, and neither of them saw the other. The poor wee one happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She wasn't hurt. She didn't go 'flying several feet into the audience.' And Kirk and she remain good buddies. It's very cool that everyone showed concern and support though, so we just wanted to say "it's all good" and thanks for asking."
Crowpath has decided to call it quits. The band issues the following statement:
"So, the end is upon us! After 13 years of making noise we are done! It´s been alot of fun and all that but the reason for not continuing with the band its the lack of ideas and creative drive. This is really a natural end, there is nothing more to be done."
"We would like to thank our previous bass players Björn, Thomas and especially Dan for putting up with us through out the years. Thanks to all the cool bands, promoters and people we met and also a big thanks to Willowtip for being the coolest label around!"
"Erik and Henrik has a new band going on called Tellusian. Music will pop up on the web in a not to distant future."
UK black metal band Code has issued the following update:
"We have not been in hibernation, but merely stealing ourselves, plotting and concocting since we returned from our European tour last year. There have been many changes in the Code camp and we would like to bring some of them out into the open for the carrion to feed..."
"Our, so far untitled, 3rd album is slowly emerging from it's crysalis. It's a mutant creature that's evolving and forming of its own will, as we mold to it and bring it to life. We are currently working on some experimental vocal lines and arrangements, re-arrangements and re-arrangements. Kvohst and our wordsmith Andrew Nicol are threading the letters through the needles and so far Aort has composed 10 unrefined and deathly heavy, raw working tracks. As you may crave, this new album will be a continuation of pushing the boundaries of progression and developing the strange world of Code further off the map and into uncharted zones - there will be many things that will shock, bewilder and flabbergast and yet there are many notions that pull the sound into a more organic and raw state this time around." Shaded Enmity has issued the following update regarding the departure of guitarist Rob Steinway on their MySpace page:
"After years of service, Rob Steinway has decided to part ways with Shaded Enmity. Simon and myself wish him the very best in his next endeavors as anyone who gets Rob in their band is very lucky to have him."
"That being said, this position is not the easiest to fill, and can be a bit technical when it comes to the parts. I would handle all the leads in the band, but it is quite difficult to do some of the more complex leads over my vocal parts. Please read the requirements listed, and if you believe you fit these drop me an email at email@example.com"
"1. Must have your own gear. We play in E Standard, so in addition to a guitar that stays in tune, you need a tube head and some sort of 4x12 cabinet.
2. Your own transportation, and the ability to haul your own gear to shows.
3. Good stage presence is a must, you dont necessarily need to spin your head 100 mph like Rob does, but dont be a statue.

Devildriver bassist Johnathan Miller has issued the following statement about having to drop off the band's European tour:
"To all of the DevilDriver fans who will be attending the remaining dates of our current Fall/Winter European run, it is to my dismay that I will not be able to finish the tour due to a family emergency. I would like to thank our tour manager, Bubble, for filling in for me. This is very disheartening to me but sometimes family must take precedent over anything else in life. I will miss being out with my best buds touring Europe and hope to return as soon as possible."
Adelaide’s Double Dragon has announced details of their second full length album, "The Sons of Asena," due out sometime in 2011. Also announced was the bands recruitment of two new members – bass guitarist Josh Lamort (A Red Dawn), and drummer Liam Weedall (Asphyxia, Sonic Euphoria). Guitarist Matthew "Roady" Johnston commented"
"We’re extremely excited to get back out there with the new boys and show everyone exactly what we’ve been up to for the past couple of months. Josh has been a long time friend of the band, has filled in for us several times in the past, and we couldn’t be happier to finally have him on board as a full time member. As for Liam, he’s only 19 years old, but don’t let that fool you – he’s a phenomonal musician who’s blowing everyone that sees him play away, especially us!"
The plans to enter Adelaide’s Against The Grain studios in November/December this year to record the follow up to their 2008 debut album, "Devastator." "The Sons of Asena" will feature ten tracks. Vocalist Lee Gardiner had this to say about the new album:
"We have let our collective imaginations run wild for this album. No stone has been left unturned with these songs, and this is perhaps the most exciting part – for the first time we’ve had the balls to follow our instincts and follow them through. Whether it be with the hiring of our new members, the newfound ambition we feel, or the strength of the songs themselves. As a creative person, it’s a very exciting time to be in this band."
Following the completion of the new album, the band (currently unsigned) will be looking for a release both in Australia and worldwide, with international touring also on the horizon for 2011.
Dave Mustaine appeared at the Megadeth Cyber Army chat room on Tuesday, November 16th for a live chat with fan club members, in which he briefly discussed the band's upcoming album by stating:
"So, right now I have Ken Eisennagel, you may remember him from the last two records doing engineering for all of the pre-production phases of Megadeth records? Well, he is here [Megadeth’s studio - Vic's Garage] going over all of the new Megadeth stuff that I am working on… believe it or not we have five songs almost finished for the new Megs record already!"
Additional details on the new album will be announced as they are made available.
Reverend Kill has checked in with the following update about recruiting a new vocalist and drummer:
"So after a couple months of things changing around in the lineup, trying out some awesome players, we have decided to go with my old friend Paul 'Hotwheels' Merkl from Lethbridge Alberta on vocals. And on drums another old friend of mine Les Sarfi from way back in the day. The band feels very tight as a unit now and everyone is focused on the same task at hand.
"We have 4 new tunes and a few more in the works and we are also hitting the studio soon to re-record the first disc which will be produced by Eric Grief the old manager of Death and the dude that helps out so many of us bands and metal associated people it isn't funny. We are honoured to have such a good guy for our friend. We are excited to pound our way into 2011. Up the Hammers Brothas and Sistas."
