“We don't count on getting signed in order to ‘make it.’ For us, ‘making it’ means giving the power back to the fans, playing shows anywhere and everywhere, and putting out a lot of good music.” Says Walking Corpse Syndrome drummer Noktis. Their underground philosophy shows through in their music, which has loads of energy even if it lacks the slick polish of a big name group. Walking Corpse Syndrome released their debut full-length album “Forsaken” back in 2008 and are currently working on a follow up. Both guitarist Bile and drummer Noktis filled me in on the band’s history, how they ended up with two drummers, and the recording process for “Forsaken.” More...

France's The Old Dead Tree has issued the following announcement about calling it a day:
"The Old Dead Tree is no more. I wish I never had to write those words, but nothing is forever. These last few months, some disagreements started to grow within the band, regarding commitment and musical direction in the making of our fourth album. Those differences of opinions soon turned out to be a dead-end problem and led me to make the decision of ending the band’s activities.
"In twelve years of existence, The Old Dead Tree had its share of line-up changes. Of course, each of them has been an improvement, but they were also painful losses. And I don’t want to face that kind of loss again.
"Be that as it may, I am still extremely proud of the work we have achieved and I want to thank all the people without whom nothing would have been possible: past and present band members with whom I learned so much and had amazing times, our wonderful crew, our label Season of Mist, our tour booker K Productions, and especially the fans who supported us and encouraged us to go forwards. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
"This is now farewell."
Varg Vikernes of Burzum, who was recently released from prison in Norway, has issued the following announcement about releasing a new album titled "The White God:"
"As You might already know, my dear ladies and gentlemen, and others individuals too, I am no friend of the modern so-called Black Metal culture. It is a tasteless, low-brow parody of Norwegian so-called Black Metal anno 1991-1992, and if it was up to me it would meet its dishonourable end as soon as possible. However, rather than abandon my own music, only because others have soiled its name by claiming to have something in common with it, I will stick to it. The ‘black metallers’ will probably continue to ‘get loaded’, ‘get high’, and in all other manners too behave like the stereotypical Negro; they will probably continue to get foreign tribal tattoos, dress, walk, talk, look and act like homosexuals, and so forth. Some of the ‘black metallers’, their fans and accomplices will probably even continue to pretend - and actually believe - they have something in common with Burzum, but let me assure You; they don't! I play what can be described as some sort of metal music, all right, and they do too, but the similarities ends there. Freud wrote books. Tolkien wrote books. The similarities ends there.
"Why more of Burzum? Well, I am what I am; a musician. Musicians produce music, when they can, and now I can; I am no longer imprisoned by the criminal anti-Norwegian regime in Norway. Will my music be any good? My guess is that if You like Burzum You like Burzum. If You don't You don't. I do try to change all the time, but most of the time I fail, and many appreciate that. Others don't. More...
Finnish metallers Rotten Sound have signed a new record deal with Relapse Records. The band's latest album "Cycles" was released in January of 2008 and debuted at #12 on the Finnish charts. Rotten Sound are currently writing for their follow-up to "Cycles," but will first see an EP release early next year. The EP, titled "Napalm," is scheduled for a March release via Relapse. Additional details on this release will be announced soon.
Rotten Sound's Niinimaa commented on the recent signing; “Relapse Records has been a strong label for grindcore since they started, which is one of the reasons that made us want to re-release our 'Murderworks' album through them in 2005. We will fit to their roster like a fist to an ass. Being along the same line with other label-mates is very important for us because we want to tour all over this planet with bands we like ourselves. The upcoming 'Napalm' EP and the next full-length album will start a new and (even) more aggressive era for Rotten Sound. Doing it together with Relapse Records will make this period more grind than any of our phases before.”
Germany's Sniper have issued the following statement about streaming two new songs on their MySpace page:

Until then, have a listen to 'Plasmodium' and 'To The Marrow.' We hope you enjoy it and hope you like it just as much as we do."

We were looking forward to seeing our fans in Switzerland, Italy and Spain, and we wanted to show all of you how good the band is sounding with Ricardo Confessori back to the band. We are as upset as you are, and we will do our best to return to these countries an soon as possible and do the great shows our fans deserve. The new album is being written right now and it will be out by mid 2010."

London, UK-based progressive extreme metal band De Profundis have inked a deal with Kolony Records to release their second album “A Bleak Reflection” in Europe. The album was recorded in June/July 2009 with producer Fernando Pereira Lopes and mastered by Tim Turan.
Commented the label: “Kolony Records are very proud of this signing and would like to welcome De Profundis to the label’s roster. We were blown away by the band’s musical style (an original mix of black-death-doom and, why not, some progressive metal) from the moment we listened to their promo. The guys showed a lot of professionalism during all our discussions and we were really impressed with the international live experience of De Profundis. The band has a proven track record when it comes to live performances, having landed high profile gigs with likes of Iron Maiden, Nevermore, and Annihilator in both the UK and abroad. De Profundis has already performed in Greece, France, Portugal, Romania and India; the band is currently finalizing plans to tour Europe on a wider scale during 2010. That's the kind of band we like to work with!”
The band stated, "Right from the first communication, we have been very impressed by Kolony Records’ professional and honest approach. Following countless emails and a face-to-face meeting with the label manager Lorenzo Marchello, we are confident that we have found the right label to release our new album and help De Profundis to reach the next level. We are very happy to be the part of the Kolony family and look forward to working with them for many years to come." More...

We want to thank all of you guys who have supported us by buying our cd's and showing up at our concerts! THANK YOU! Judgement Day has issued the second report from their European tour with Dredg, with a humorous anecdote as well:
"As soon as we hit Germany, our casual European vacation turned into a full-on, epic rock tour. Dredg are heroes in Germany, and every night we played to over 1000 people. This was definitely the biggest week in Judgement Day’s life so far, and it went incredibly well. For all of the German shows we were also joined by another cool band called The Parlor Mob, from New Jersey. They fit perfectly into the bill with excellent musicianship and a sound vaguely reminiscent of classic Led Zeppelin. They seemed to be excited about our band as well. Their sound engineer Tony liked us so much that he ended up doing our sound for free, which made a huge difference for us.
"A few days before our show in Berlin, Dredg got a memo from the Berlin police department saying that they were looking for 'Dradg' for questioning about some 'property damage.' Everyone in the band got really paranoid, so Drew Roulette (bass player) came up with a brilliant prank:
"On the night of the Berlin show, he hired 2 actors to dress up like German police, come on stage in the middle of the set and arrest Gavin and Dino (singer and drummer)! It worked perfectly: Gavin and Dino were scared shitless!
"Drew wanted all of the fans to think that the arrest was real for the first few days, so after the show we posted this video, which cuts off just before the prank is revealed:
Three days later we posted the full, uncut version: More...
