Eluveitie Discusses New Album "Ategnatos"

Folk and pagan metal has come a long way over nearly three decades. Bands like Skyclad and Cruachan are often credited with creating or pioneering the genre, but as time goes on, many bands across Europe have taken the style and found commercial success with it too. One such band would be Eluveitie, from the Swiss city of Zurich. Since 2002, the band led by Chrigel Glanzmann has put out several high quality albums and become revered as one of the sub-genre's best and most engaging bands.

At their recent show in Bristol with Lacuna Coil and Infected Rain, I caught up with Chrigel Glanzmann to discuss the band's new album, "Ategnatos," the history and mythology behind it, how good fortune led to Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe to appear on the album and more. You can watch the interview in full below, with a transcription to follow. More...

A Life Divided To Release New Album In January

Imagine you could send your latest favorite rock record on a journey through time and into the past - what would it sound like? That's exactly what A Life Divided had in mind when creating their new album "Echoes" (out January 31). New single, "Enemy," is streaming below:

"It was during the ‘80s when we first came into contact with music. At that time I bought my first Adidas Allround sneakers, let my hair grow and played the songs of my metal heroes on guitar", recalls vocalist Jürgen Plangger, songwriter and producer Erik Damköhler was more of a synth-wave fan back then. "That's how we came up with the idea of mixing our A Life Divided-style with the typical synth-sounds of the ‘80s. Echoes as a result was something completely new: 13 songs that combine our dark alternative rock with the zeitgeist of the ‘80s”. More...

Avatarium Posts New Visualizer Video

Doom metal wizards, Avatarium, have released a visualizer for the new song "Voices", featured on their new dark gospel, The Fire I Long For, out on November 22 via Nuclear Blast. Watch the clip below.

Founded in 2012 by Leif Edling of Candlemass, Avatarium soon saw the arrival of Marcus Jidell (producer Candlemass) and Jennie-Ann Smith who brought an air of charisma with her soulful grace. By now, the band has become an entity of its own and while Leif still contributed three songs for the new album, the band’s current nucleus consists of Marcus and Jennie-Ann, who are accompanied on this record by organist Rickard Nilssonand new drummer Andreas ‘Habo’ Johansson (The Doomsday Kingdom). Together, this open-minded, yet doom-laden collective draws elements of folk, jazz and psychedelic brilliance into a grandiose amalgamation that manages to maintain an almost pop-like elegance.

Recorded at Studio DeepWell in Stockholm, the album was produced by Marcus Jidell, mixed by Grammy Award winner Niklas Flyckt and mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein). More...
