Start a Fire has checked in with the following update about the recording process for a new EP:
"Somewhere in a galaxy not to far from the guy you know across the street....... Today Amandus, Alex and Robin took the bandmobile towards the misty hills of Kinna and Studio Haga. Several hours and a lot of duct tape later the drums were finally ready to start the recording.
"Around 9pm the cell woke me up from my nail-biting impatience: '2 songs are done!' stated the voice of a satisfied drummer. 'Amandus?' I cried out. 'Thou shalt cometh with me the day after today!' grunted the voice, and before I knew it I had agreed to follow him wherever he wanted to go and the voice was silent. Can I play with madness?"

“Stand In Line,” a brand new song from Gothenburg, Sweden based metal-sextet Marionette can be streamed through Metal Hammer at this location.
Aron Parmerud, guitarist, backing vocalist, and songwriter for Marionette comments:
“’Stand In Line’ is one of the faster songs on Nerve. It is aggressive lyrically, in your face, and very keyboard driven. It also contains one of the few guitar solos on the album. It shows another dimension to Nerve and MARIONETTE for those familiar with another new song we recently posted titled ‘Remember Your Name.’ Those of you who see us on ‘The SlaughTour 2011’ next month will get to hear this song live and in its rawest form.”
Marionette will release its third album, "Nerve," worldwide on December 5th, 2011. The album will be released digitally via Pivotal Rockordings in all major web-retail outlets and streaming services while the physical album will be self-released by Marionette in individually numbered high-quality digipaks featuring two exclusive bonus tracks. Exhumed has left a twenty-plus-year-stinky stain on the extreme metal community. Starting with their 1998 platter of splatter, “Gore Metal,” Exhumed has become one of the more recognized acts on Relapse Records’ roster of atrocities. Recently, the group released the pun-heavy-titled “All Guts No Glory,” its first proper album in eight years. The punk-laden album subsides on a heavy diet of blistering drums, sharp guitars, ghoulish voices and dark humor.
Vocalist, guitarist and partial Exhumed brain child, Matt Harvey spoke to Metal Underground via phone about his “It’s Alive”-shaped baby. In addition to providing details about recording “All Guts No Glory,” Harvey spoke about playing two Metal Underground-sponsored events. The day of the interview he had just started Exhumed North American tour with Goatwhore and Havok, and also commented on the group’s upcoming performance at The Goregrowler’s Ball. More...

Not only are the Lock Up and Strong Intention guys good friends, they will both add to the complete assault of this aggressive line up. We have spoken to Nick and Shane of Lock Up numerous times about doing some tours together in the past. We are quite enthusiastic about hitting the road with them even if it is such a short run. "To me, 'Paralyzed' symbolizes being stuck and unable to move forward in life. Everybody can relate to that in some way. The lyrics in the chorus – 'I'm paralyzed / I need you now' – are a cry for help to the one person we love the most and totally trust to help pull us out of our despair," Welch told Noisecreep about the track.

Finnish traditional metal band Battle Beast has signed with Nuclear Blast Records. The band released the debut LP "Steel" through Hype Productions this past April and the LP will be reissued on Nuclear Blast on January 27, 2012.
The press release from Nuclear Blast reads: "Finland – a mine of talented newcomer bands since the year one. With BATTLE BEAST from Helsinki, Nuclear Blast are happy to welcome one of the most promising combos of this flourishing scene aboard!
"Founded in 2008, the band already attended the W:O:A Metal Battle in their home country two years later and won the national contest, which enabled them to perform at the Wacken Open Air in Germany and represent Finland in the international Metal Battle finals. Battling 26 other bands from all around the world, BATTLE BEAST emerged victorious. Under these circumstances a record deal with the world’s biggest independent heavy metal label seems to be the only logical consequence – Andy Siry, head of A&R at Nuclear Blast, agrees:
" 'Young, dynamic but still deeply rooted in traditional heavy metal – BATTLE BEAST breathe new life into the scene and rekindle the sound of the 80s with a fulgent livery. The well-deserved victory at the W:O:A Metal Battle 2010 was the first important step to which we want to live up by supporting these up-and-coming talents energetically. We’re looking forward to the cooperation!'
"The band also expresses their joy. Guitarist Anton comments:
" 'We feel honoured that Nuclear Blast show their interest in BATTLE BEAST by releasing "Steel". Many thanks to our partners, closest people and most of all to our fans who believed in us and gave us their support. The journey continues!' "

Cattle Decapitation vocalist Travis Ryan will appear as a guest vocalist on the forthcoming yet untitled Soulfly album. Ryan recorded his vocal portions at Frick'in Studios in San Marcos, CA. The new Soulfly is expected for release in early 2012 on Roadrunner Records.
Travis Ryan commented on the recording: "It's an honor to receive a call from someone you had pictures of on your wall as a kid asking you to be on a new album of theirs. I literally had a picture of Max and Gloria holding Richie in her arms that I ripped out of a copy of Metal Maniacs on my wall when I was 15 or 16. Now they're asking for my artistic hand in one of their creations, just doesn't get much more surreal than that. Very honored and the song is very 'death metal-ish' and completely crushes. Happy to be a part of it!"
Producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, The Red Chord) had the following comments on Travis' recording: "The vocals fucking rule!!!! Fits the song perfect… Very refreshing for me to hear these days."
Cattle Decapitation also recently announced that the band will enter Flatline Audio Studios in Denver, CO in January to record for an early Spring 2012 release through Metal Blade Records.

The Empire Shall Fall has checked in with the following announcement about the release of "Volume 1: Solar Plexus" and an update about working on two follow-up releases:
"Hello all! We are excited to bring you some details about the release of Volume 1. We can now happily say that it will be released digitally on Tuesday, December 6th (via iTunes and other digital music outlets). The vinyl will not be completed pressing until the end of December, but we didn’t want to make our fans (who have all been so supportive) wait anymore. All those who preordered will be emailed the download code several days prior to December 6th release as a thank you for your preorder and as compensation for the delay of the vinyl. Once we have the vinyl we will ship all the preorders (with all T-shirts, Hoodies, etc). Due to the special nature of this release we will not be taking orders for any vinyl from December 6th until the preorders ship. We will also stop taking preorders at the end of November; November 30th will be your last day to preorder at the discounted prices and package deals. We have worked very hard on this first installment and cannot wait to share it with you.
"A new album release also means something else: new show dates! For the first time since September of 2010 we will be taking the stage starting in January. Brooklyn has always been kind to us, so we are pleased to say that our first show back will be there on January 6th. "Finally, we are working on Volume 2 (and Volume 3). In the preliminary stage we can safely say that Volume 2 will be a heavier record (this is intentional, and goes with the concept). We have most of the songs in their skeletal structure, and over the next few months hope to polish things up so we can be recording in the spring (this time hopefully with a faster turn around!).
We are excited to finally bring some new music to everyone, and would like to thank everyone who has helped us, especially with this particular endeavor, and we hope to see you at a show in 2012!"

"As DMT, we are attempting to create music that pulses with the human energy field, and empowers people to awaken the dormant spirit within. Influenced by a diversity of inner vision experiences, we are creating a sound different than what is currently explored. Powered by the use of sacred psychoactive plants, we are tapping into the source of energy to bring you music straight from the gods themselves..."

Carrie Sharp of Femme Metal Records, the sponsor of the Femme Metal Festival, has issued the following announcement about the label being laid to rest and a new entity rising in its place:
"I have decided to lay Femme Metal to rest. There are many reasons for this, the biggest being that I feel Femme Metal has run it's course. I no longer think females in metal need the extra help and support and that by continuing it could in fact hinder rather then help them.
"But that doesn't mean I'm going to quit everything! With Femme Metal no longer running a new agency is being born, this new agency is called Metal Compass. It's an international agency that promotes all hard rock and metal bands (this includes female fronted bands of course!) Metal Compass is an international management, record label and promotions agency. More information will be available in time. There is also a Metal Compass webzine which we are in need of reviewers and interviewers. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
"Of course with the end of Femme Metal comes the end of the Femme Metal Festival but a new festival will be taking it's place! One that doesn't promote female fronted bands alone. More information on this new festival will be available soon! The Femme Metal Webzine will carry on with Miriam taking over the reigns :)
"All that's left to say is thank you to everyone who helped and supported us over the years! We had a great time and I hope you carry on helping and supporting us in our new project!

Quickly after releasing the debut album "Mana" in 2004, Dutch symphonic/alternative band Nemesea realized that they did not want to be another symphonic gothic metal band. After raising the cash through Sellaband, the band took a drastically different approach with the sophomore release "In Control." Adding electronic and alternative elements from the band member's personal influences, they created a sound that maintains a presence in the rock/metal scene, but which allows them to branch out into so many different avenues and reach fans of all likes.
Now, with the backing of Napalm Records, the band continues this progression with the forthcoming LP "The Quiet Resistance" (release date November 18, 2011) which adds even more influences to the sound that is still garnished with a dark edge with the assistance of After Forever keyboardist Joost van den Broek. Vocalist Manda checked in with Metal Underground to talk about the new album. More...
Working hard in the underground from 1987-1992, Nashville-based old school thrash metal band Intruder was given the cult status of tightest thrash band in that underground. For reasons unknown, they were dropped from Metal Blade records while beginning to enter the charts from the release of their third full-length album, "Psycho Savant," just as everyone was getting a whiff of the '90s. The band ended up breaking up and reforming in 2002 for various festivals, such as the Keep It True and Headbangers Open Air festivals in Germany and the Classic Metal Fest in Ohio.
Fast forward to nine years later, back where they started in Nashville, TN: Saturday, November 12th, 2011. Intruder reunited for the 20th anniversary celebration of "Psycho Savant," with DownSlave as the opening band. Of course I don't remember any of the Intruder early days that I just recounted to you all, because I was only four years old when they had disbanded in 1992, but I did my research on their history before coming to the show and was completely blown away.
In this day and age, with Metallica seemingly lobotomized, leaving Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer as just a "Big Three," I think the world needs an old school thrash band to step up and take the fourth set of reigns. As a student of the old school, but not having been there during their major days, I won't claim to know how Intruder was in their "prime." However, I'm more than capable of accurately judging a band by how they sound right in front of me. On this night, I was almost ready to substitute Intruder for Metallica in my "Big Four." More...
U.S. fantasy metal band Lorenguard, featuring guitarist Christopher Cruz (Ex-Demiricous) and vocalist Robb Graves (Ex-Winterfell), will independently release the band's debut LP "Eve Of Corruption: The Days of Astasia, Part 1" on November 29, 2011 through the band's website at this location, CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes and other retailers.
The band's press release reads: "Co-founded by guitarist Christopher Cruz (ex-Demiricous), Lorenguard is an ambitious multimedia project that has been in the works for the past seven years. Conceived to be a conceptual band that writes story-driven music, Lorenguard bases its songs on the literary work of the band’s drummer, Brady Sadler. Their debut album is an entirely independent release, produced and funded without any support from a record label.
" 'Eve of Corruption' is based on a novel of the same name, which will be released in early 2012. All ten songs on the album are chronologically based on the events and characters of the novel.
"Lorenguard was loosely formed in 2004 by Cruz, Brady Sadler, and bassist Adam Sadler. The band released an early EP entitled “Of Tales to Come” (2005) with Rob Stith (vocals). However, Stith was soon replaced by Robb Graves (ex-Winterfell) in 2007. Since then, the band’s lineup has been as follows:
Robb Graves (ex-Winterfell) – Vocals
Christopher Cruz (ex-Demiricous) – Guitars
David Schneider – Guitars
Alec Biccum – Keyboards
Adam Sadler – Bass
Brady Sadler – Drums
Raleigh Barrett – Narrations & Backing Vocals"

Blind Guardian announced details of an upcoming compilation release entitled "Memories of a Time to Come." The three disc album contains remixed, re-worked and re-recorded classics from the band's 25 year existence and is scheduled for release on January 20, 2012 through Virgin/EMI Records.
The official announcement reads:
"Finally, after all these years, we have found the time to gather our most worthy songs into a best of compilation, representative of our career’s first 25 years. From the very beginning it was important for us to undertake this project only if we could put the necessary time and attention to detail into it. With overwhelming nostalgia we have looked back on 25 years and came up with 'Memories of a Time to Come', an organic mixture of some of our greatest songs.
"With the exception of 'Sacred Worlds', all songs on 'Memories of a Time to Come' have been remixed while 'The Bard’s Song – The Hobbit', 'Valhalla' as well as 'And Then There Was Silence' have been re-recorded. This album contains some very pleasant surprises for the die-hard Blind Guardian fan and delivers a perfect image of our musical spirit to those who are not, or just loosely, familiar with the band. 'Memories of a Time to Come' precisely defines our progression and the long-standing dedication to our music. We are proud to present an album that will take the listener on a musical voyage. This year’s Christmas will be in January!
" 'Memories of a Time to Come', the ultimate collection of Blind Guardian music from 1987 to 2011, will be released on January 20, 2012 via Virgin/EMI. It will be available as a double CD, 3 CD deluxe limited edition including the legendary Lucifer’s Heritage demos and as download."
Vocalist Tony Martin (Ex-Black Sabbath) and guitarist Dario Mollo (Voodoo Hill) announced that they will resurrect the band The Cage for a third release entitled "The Third Cage." Dario Mollo commented on working with Tony Martin again: "As usual we are 50/50 partners. I write all the music and Tony then contributes with the melodies and lyrics. We also try together different structures of the tracks and we rearrange them to better fit the vocal parts. Then I go ahead and take care of the entire production of the album, tracking, mixing and mastering."
Mollo also commented on the new release: "There are much better songs, performances and production on this album, plus we will finally bring this project live out there: we have a lot of great songs to perform to our loyal fans, we look forward to meet them." More...
