Entombed A.D. Unleashes Hell In Bristol

Continuing the string of exciting touring partnerships recently, which have included the likes of Amon Amarth & Testament and Rotting Christ & Inquisition, Entombed A.D. are currently on the road in support of their latest album, "Dead Dawn," with another of metal's highly respected veterans, Voivod, joined along the way by Lord Dying and Morbid Evils. Last Sunday, the tour rolled into Bristol for a show at the Fleece which had a surprisingly small attendance but a huge atmosphere.

Kicking off the evening was Finnish doom metal trio, Morbid Evils, featuring Rotten Sound vocalist Keijo Niinimaa. The group really live up to their sub-genre's name, taking to the stage shortly after doors opened and letting loose a highly morose sound, which caught the attention of the early birds in the audience. Performing material from their debut album, "In Hate With the Burning World," the three Finns could be one to watch for all fans of doom metal, though listeners who aren't so keen on very slow, very dour music may not find what they're looking for. Dreaming Dead Announces New Album

Following 2012's "Midnightmares" (reviewed here) and 2009's "Within One" (reviewed here), Dreaming Dead is gearing up to release a new full-length album next year. The band comments:

"We've awoken from yet another long slumber to a world full of new uncertainties, and no matter which area of the current social and political spectrum you stand, no matter your skin color, no matter what gender you identify with, your age or how much money you have in your pocket, your outlook is almost as uncertain as the person standing next to you.

"Yet in the face of such obstacles, we should remind ourselves each and every day that, despite all adversity, we still have each other, which ultimately equates to our humanity. And in that humanity lies the bond that, generation after generation, ties us together: Music, theater, film, poetry, dance, art, death.

"And it is in light of this that we are extremely proud to finally announce the release of 'Funeral Twilight' this coming February 2017 in collaboration with Dutch independent label, Hammerheart Records!" More...

Code Announces "Lost Signal" EP

London-based group Code will release a new EP titled "Lost Signal" on January 25th via Agonia Records. "Lost Signal" is a meeting of ages and a blurring of lines.

In the Summer of 2015, Code spent some time in a studio in England to experiment with tracks from the group's back catalogue of four albums. The idea was to re-visit past works from a different angle and "Lost Signal" is the result.

The EP features three songs from most recent album "Mut" (reviewed here), performed with a strong metallic approach. It also features three further songs, one from each of the first three albums performed in a more subtle and introspective style similar to that seen on the "Mut" album.

The result is a release that alternatively emphasises the subtlety and heaviness of the band's sound and provides a chance to hear these songs in a completely new way. The songs featured on the EP are:

- "On Blinding Larks", "Cocoon" and "Affliction" from the "Mut" album.
- "The Rattle of Black Teeth" from the "Resplendent Grotesque" album.
- "The Lazarus Cord" from the "Augur Nox" album.
- "Brass Dogs" from the "Nouveau Gloaming" album. More...

Defiant Premieres "Milestones Of Time"

Ukrainian melodic power metal act Defiant premiered the new song "Milestones Of Time" over at Pure Grain Audio at this location (also in the player below). The song appears on the sophomore full-length album "Time Isn't Healing," which drops on November 25th through Ferrrum Records. Pre-order it at this location.

Since its formation in 2008, Defiant's mission has been to enthrall fans with a brand of power metal that is as muscular as it is melodic. Defiant went on to release no less than three EPs and 2012's full-length debut "Masquerade," collectively laying the groundwork for what can only be called its magnum opus: "Time Isn't Healing." The crunching riffs and soaring leads of guitarist Andrey Turkovsky blend seamlessly with the epic, often breathtaking keyboard work of Victoria Terzieva, while Stanislav Proshkin's gritty yet tuneful vocals offer a captivating stamp of distinction. The clanging bass lines of Oleg Yakovlev and airtight drumming of Eugeniy Smolin form a robust rhythmic foundation.

But it's the quality and consistency of the songwriting that is perhaps most impressive about the new album. Whether the up-tempo power metal pummel of "Milestones of Time" or the mid-tempo elegance of "According to the Acts," Time Isn't Healing sinks the hooks in deep and keep the listener in a state of rapt attention from beginning to end.

The album track listing is: More...

Syron Vanes Announces New Album

Swedish traditional metal act Syron Vanes hooked up with Scandinavia’s premier rock and metal label Mighty Music. The Swedish band traveled to Copenhagen to meet with CEO Michael H. Andersen and the chemistry was there from the beginning. On January 27, 2017, the band will release the new album "Chaos From A Distance."

The album features 13 new songs of powerful, old school heavy metal, written and recorded over a period of 2 years. The new material is a mixture of faster and heavier songs which has always been a Syron Vanes hallmark.

Syron Vanes was one of the first bands emerging from Sweden inspired by the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal scene (NWOBHM). The band formed in 1980 and released two highly acclaimed classic albums in the eighties, the “Bringer Of Evil” from 1984 and “Revenge” from 1986.

Like other talented bands from that period of heavy metal, the big success never came and the band took a long break in the 90’s. In 2003 the comeback album “Insane” was released and the same year the band performed at Sweden Rock Festival. In 2007 the album “Property Of..” was released and quickly forgotten and it took the band seven years to release the “Evil Redux” album in 2014. The album was very well received by both critics and fans. The album was followed by a sold out UK tour together with Jake E. Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel and Swedish gigs together with Sebastian Bach.
