Multinational hard rock/metal band Meldrum is pleased to announce Tuesday November 20th, 2012 as the release date for third album 'Lifer." Founder and late ex-Phantom Blue guitarist Michelle Meldrum passed away at the age of 39 in May 2008. "Lifer" stands as a proud tribute to Michelle and her lifetime commitment to creating and performing music.
In honor of their fallen bandmate, remaining members drummer Gene Hoglan (Testament, Death, Dark Angel, Dethklok), guitarist/bassist Laura Christine (Warface), and vocalist Michelle Madden (Tourette's) entered the studio with producer/engineer/manager Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Zimmers Hole, West of Hell) to lay tracks for what would become 'Lifer."
Pre-sale's are available now at this location. The album will come as a digipak that includes an 8 page insert and CD. Fans who place their order between now and the November 20th release date will receive a free download of Meldrum's latest single 'Paid.". Partial proceeds from the album will go to Michell's son Jake Thomas who she left behind when she passed.
Gene Hoglan comments on the album: "Let me say this: Never have I obsessed over the recording of any album I've been involved in as I have with Meldrum's latest. The tragic circumstances that took Michelle from us also provided us with a raser-sharp focus to record the most amazing album we could. Michele Madden, Laura Christine, and hell, even Rob Shallcross, our engineer, put forth performances of a lifetime, with each member's full love and respect going into every nuance of every song. Not only to honor Michelle, but to also lay down some bad-ass music, which was ultimately what she stood for what Meldrum stands for. I think the songs speak for themselves, and I, for one, have never been prouder to be a part of a family, let alone a project such as this. Metal with balls. Crank it up, indeed." More...

Dark Tranquillity has posted the following announcement online about canceling the band's previously scheduled European tour dates:
"It is with great frustration that we have to announce the cancellation of our participation in the planned European tour 'Metal Attack Over Europe.'
"The reasons are several. The main tour promoter has failed in making the necessary practical and logistical arrangements needed for the tour to happen. Due to the lack of reliable information and substandard promotion, ticket sales have been surprisingly low. We can't just embark on a one-month, five-band trek risking to be met by closed venues or not being 100% sure that the necessary arrangements for the shows even to happen are in place. The fact that Warbringer had to cancel didn’t help the situation.
"We understand that many people will be disappointed, and so are we. Rest assured that our booking agent has been doing his outmost to save the tour and try to sort things out, but the sad reality is that we're left with no choice but to cancel. We are truly sorry about this situation."
Dark Tranquillity also digitally released the "Zero Distance" EP (reviewed here) last month, which includes five tracks taken from the European tour edition of "We Are The Void" (2010).
Candlelight Records is proud to announce the signing of Voices, which was formed in London in 2011 as a new experiment from Akercocke members Peter Benjamin, David Gray and Samuel Loynes, and also joined by London producer Dan Abela of Legacy Studios.
According to a statement, the band's mission is to "create a deep brand of cold and confronting music, part hypnotic yet often disturbing, focusing from an avant-garde take upon black metal, whilst always striving to explore a wide musical spectrum."
Voices comments: "We have some immense plans for future creativity, ruling out no potential musical style or influence. We hope to never be bound by convention and thus remaining truly extreme through this unique and open minded disposition.
“We are excited to be working with the legendary Candlelight Records. It’s a greatly profound occasion for us to be sharing a label alongside some of our own and long-serving musical influences. Each member of the band has been listening to Candlelight artists for years and has great appreciation and respect of the label’s direction and continuing legacy. From here we hope to spread our message throughout the world via the mighty platform provided by Candlelight Records. And therefore we now have some colossal ventures and goals on the horizon... Expect Voices to always bring deeply innovative and unusual extreme metal infiltrated by the strain of London life, pushing this sound into the forefront of the global metal world” More...

Listenable Records has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with French metal act Supuration:

Red Fang drew my attention first during day two. Contrary to their name, Red Fang’s bite energized rather than paralyzed the crowd. Although they came from the land of fog and towering trees of Oregon, their riffs were the size of Texas and filled with a gritty quality not unlike the festival’s dusty, trodden paths. Their catchy rhythms, guitar solos and drum fills grabbed the modestly sized audience and injected groove into their stoned bones. With prior SXSW appearances, Red Fang has become a well-recognized force in Austin’s festival circuit. Make sure to check these guys out on their touring supporting the “Murder the Mountains” album.

Saxon will release the new album "Sacrifice" this coming February 2013 through UDR as the successor to previous album "A Call To Arms."
"Less tricks, more power!" roars frontman and founding father Biff Byford, "my brief to the band was to be raw, be real and not be afraid to look back at the old classic material for inspiration." The following press release was also issued about the album:
"The album was recorded at LS Studios in Yorkshire and was produced by Byford with Andy Sneap mixing and engineering by Jacky Lehmann. It fairly bristles with muscular metallic intent, Paul Quinn's and Doug Scarratt's guitar work the best it's ever been, while Biff's vocals sound fresher and livelier. The songwriting too harks back to a classic era in Saxon's history, with the likes of 'Warriors Of The Road,' 'Wheels Of Terror,' and 'Stand Up And Fight' evoking the halcyon days of yore with a contemporary twist, the classic Saxon sound absorbing the snarl, ferocity and attitude of contemporary bands (and fans) such as Megadeth, as evidenced by the crunching title cut 'Sacrifice.'"
"It's certainly been done from a more early '80s thrashier perspective," explains Biff, "and it's not just guitars bashing away willy-nilly, they've got a fresh drive, purpose and perspective."
Besides the new material, Saxon will also be adding some unique recordings of revisited classic to certain formats of the release, also produced by Byford and mastered by Andy Sneap, including an orchestrated version of 'Crusader' and an acoustic version of 'Frozen Rainbow.'
"From the songs to the production, I wanted to focus on the raw aspects which made us great in the first place," concludes Biff, "And living in that rawness, combined with some great classic Saxon-songwriting, has in my opinion made Saxon fresher than ever."
After headlining the North American "PaganFest" tour this past Spring, battle metallers Turisas will once again return to the States in February/March 2013 for a headlining tour featuring Firewind and Stolen Babies as special guests.
In regards to the trek, the band comments: "Back to America straight out of the studio! We've spent the last six months off the road writing some new killer tunes and are just about to start recording them as we speak. The great memories from our previous tour last spring is making us even more excited to hit the road again after this long break. We're coming up with new cool and crazy ideas for this tour, and who knows, maybe we'll even try out and premiere some completely unreleased new material. One thing is certain, after 9 months off the road there'll be some serious energy to be released on stage! Serve us your weakest piss-light beer! We'll take it! America here we come!"

Montreal's rising-star progressive death metal wizards Beyond Creation have just released the new official music video for their song "Omnipresent Perception." The track comes off debut album "The Aura" and the clip is available below. Beyond Creation was also covered in the technical death metal edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column earlier this year.
"This video was created in collaboration with Obnoxious Entertainment, a brand-new production company from Montreal," comments BC singer/guitarist Simon Girard. "'Omnipresent Perception' contains a simple and direct message: we are free to trust in whatever we want, but we should first trust in ourselves, and make sure we do it the right way! We are very happy with the end result of this video and we hope people will have as much watching it as we did making it."
Century Media Records is proud to welcome Swedish black metal extremists Watain to its worldwide family. 2013 will see the release of Watain's fifth studio album via His Master's Noise in collaboration with Century Media Records. The label comments:
"Legitimately labeled as genre leaders, deservedly awarded with a Swedish Grammy, playing the world's biggest stages and touring the globe constantly while reaching numerous top positions in the annual reader's polls, Watain has worked hard and achieved a lot over the past years despite successfully ignoring any kind of conformity and concession to the metal mainstream. Unrivaled in their unwillingness to compromise and clear artistic vision, Watain is most befittingly described with the title of Bathory's third opus - 'Blood Fire Death,' a fact they never fail to underline with their infamous live shows: The stench of rotting animal cadavers, the inferno of candelabras and torches, chalices of blood, darkness and death - Watain is a full scale attack on all sensory organs. In days of toothless, sterile, family-friendly metal they embody danger and dread and are rewarded with a maximum of support and appreciation."
Watain issued the following statement:
"We are writing this from a magical place of desolation and desert-like vastness, where wondrous things are at this very moment taking place. Things that will come to colour our world as well as yours in the strangest hues for many years to come. We are entering this new chapter of WATAIN with a will and confidence to make it the most diverse and rememberable so far. And with the things that we have in mind for the future, it looks like it will be just so. Just wait and see, fuckers! Loud and terrible shall the trumpets of Devils sound..." More...
