Derelict Issues New Album Update

Canada's Derelict has posted the following lyric explanation online via the band's official website, as well as an update about recording a new album:

"Quick update before the article: Jordan just finished up drums for the new album in studio, and we’re going to have video footage of that in the next few days.

"This is another post in our series about the meanings behind the song lyrics. This time I’m covering ‘Forth With The Herd’:

"I wrote these lyrics when I was in university. At the time, I was working hard on some sound production courses through which I was learning how to engineer and edit. In fact, all of our 2008 EP Carry The Flame, as well as the guitar tracking for Unspoken Words were done through those classes, which was great. (And I met Max there, which turned out for the best, haha.)

"What wasn’t so great was the mentality that I was surrounded with at the time. Perhaps it was the age group, or the class/culture (upper middle-suburban-white) many of my fellow students came from, but I felt like at lot of them had no idea why they were studying. Their parents had pushed them into it and were paying for it, so these kids just went along, sucking the teat, and assuming they would get a six-figure job at the end of a communications degree… ha! These people are part of what I call 'The Seasame Street Generation,' people who were told they could be whatever they wanted to be, so they just go along with the flow without any plan, but still expect to be rich/famous/world leaders/etc.

"The other part that was bothering me was the corporate business aspect of higher education. Call me naïve, but I only realized a few years in that universities really just are businesses. They need corporate sponsorships. They need good PR. That means hypocritical things like publishing a Dean’s list in the newspaper and setting up booths by organizations like the military or credit card companies to try and rope students in. There are many sides to this issue, I know that, but it still bothers me fundamentally.

"In the end, I’m not saying 'fuck higher education,' in fact quite the opposite, I’m saying that there should be more of it and that it should be of better quality. I just don’t think school should ever be used as a substitute for the real world. If you don’t know what the Hell to do with your life, get some kind of job, travel, try things, but for fuck’s sake don’t just go into some program because someone else said it was a good idea. Go when you’re ready and grow up in the meantime." More...

Blodarv Announces Compilation Release

Danish black metallers Blodarv have reached an agreement with the Slovenian underground label Nigrum Serpentis Production for the release of a retrospective compilation that will cover ten years of the band’s history.

The ten-track CD will contain various tracks from Blodarv's releases, including the bonus track “Six feet Below As She Wished For Death,” which was originally written in 1996 and up to now has only been available on the first Blodarv demo “Murder in the Name of Satan.” The album is set to run for 60 minutes and comes with a twelve-page booklet containing lyrics (the band writes in both Danish and English) and photos and fan art which detail the history of Blodarv.

The track listing for “A Demon’s Diary” as follows:

1. Under Satans Vinger
2. Daemonstormens Tid
3. Power Of A Soul
4. Where The Beast Dwell
5. Those Who Speaks In Minds
6. Heksen Nitiria Amlech
7. Sealed In Black With Silver Stars
8. Beyond Life
9. Langt Vaek Fra Livet
10. Natteskarn
*Bonus track: “Six Feet Below As She Wished For Death”

Despite an accident which smashed Hugin’s jaw and left him unable to either sing or perform live for most of 2011 while it healed, the vocalist has nevertheless been busy. Work has been progressing well on Blodarv’s next full-length album, and the band featured two previously un-released tracks on the “Shadows of Tragedy” compilation, which was released on Self Mutilation Services in September of this year.

Finsterforst Comments On Rekwi Fest Appearance

Finsterforst has issued the following statement about the band's short play time at the Rekwi festival and update about working on a new album:

"First, we would like to apologize to everyone who was at the Rekwi-Festival for playing so short. We had more for you, but we had to pay for someone else's dawdling; so we had to leave the stage after just 30 minutes. That pissed us off even more than it did you. It also did not help when a fire alarm got set off by a fog machine behind the stage during change-over that locked away the drumkit for a while. We will come back to Franconia to play you some bloody ears though!

"Of course there are positive things to report. The summer was a hell of a time! Thanks to all the fans that banged, sang and drunk with us at the concerts! Also Thanks to all the organizers and crews of the festivals, it wouldn't have been possible without you. May the Haxenmeischda come to all of you, you deserve it! ;-)

"As already announced we are working on a new album with exquisite compositions from the deep dark woods. The first impressions are already on Youtube and there will be some more! Maybe not all of them will make it onto the album, but perhaps you will get an impression of the direction of march. We wish you all the best, and have fun!"

When this footage recently surfaced on an old external hard drive, Cernunnos desired to release it. After re-mixing the original Overture recordings, he felt re-recording the track might better suit his current endeavors.

"He is in the process of recording Circle for release w/ the original video for the web, though rumor suggests it will be a 2012 compilation on UW Records (BATONROUGE, Louisiana), same label who released 'Excommunicated' earlier this year."

Cernunnos also stated that this re-recording would not delay the next new full-length release. You can find the band's last recording update at this location.
