Katatonia Releases "Lacquer" Live Video

To mark their new release "Dead Air," on Friday 13th November, Katatonia have released their live lockdown session performance of the "City Burials" single "Lacquer." You can check it out below.

”Dead Air is a document and a remembrance of a strange and surreal situation, as well as true evidence of the love for music – both ours and that shown by our fans.” Vocalist Jonas Renkse explains what Dead Air means to the band.

April 2020 saw Katatonia present their eleventh studio opus, the poignant "City Burials," to unanimous acclaim but with the unforeseen global event transpiring this year resulting in their album touring plans being put on hold, Katatonia conducted a more intimate “lockdown” show which was streamed live from Studio Grondahl, Stockholm on May 9th. "Dead Air" offers fans a full 88-minute set containing 20 tracks from the band’s extensive and illustrious repertoire to date, with inclusions spanning two decades of dark progressive greatness, and essentially also debuting three of the City Burials album tracks in a live setting.

The tracklisting itself contains a very literal selection of fan favourites overall, having being voted for exclusively by the band’s worldwide fanbase, flawlessly flirting between earlier singles such as metallic anthems "My Twin" & "July," to the stirring emotional grandeur of new song, "Lacquer."

The recording, mixing & engineering work was orchestrated by David Castillo, notable for his extensive body of work with Katatonia to date, and the performance itself was professionally filmed by Blackbox Video. More...

SOAD Raises Over $600k For Armenia

Following the surprise release of two new songs in aid for the Armenia Fund, System Of A Down has revealed that they have raised over six hundred thousand dollars for the organization. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your incredible support of our campaign for the people of Artsakh, and for helping us raise over $600k in donations to provide for those in dire need via the Armenia Fund. Because of you, we will be able to help displaced civilians, young and old, who are affected by the hideous war crimes inflicted upon Artsakh by Azerbaijan and Turkey. Please take a few minutes to watch our full interview to get a more intimate look and understanding into why we came together to release 'Protect The Land' and 'Genocidal Humanoidz.' To the four of us, it's extremely important to share these truths with you. It is for our ancestors, our culture, and our nation. Help us spread the message. Watch the interview in full below."

Interestingly, a few days after the songs were released, the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed a ceasefire, which was also signed by Russian president Vladimir Putin. While the agreement allows prisoners of war and fallen soldiers to return home, Russian and Turkish forces will be deployed to the Lachin corridor for at least five years, Armenian forces will withdraw from the territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan will also gain control of the Nakhchivan exclave, via a strip of Armenian land near the Iranian border. Therion To Release New Album In January

Sweden’s symphonic metal pioneers Therion are proud to unleash the first single and title track from their upcoming 17th studio album "Leviathan," which is set to be released on 22 January 2021 on Nuclear Blast.

Balancing ominous atmosphere and powerful, seducing chants, Leviathan succeeds in virtually conjuring the mythical sea creature the song has borrowed its name from.

Therion has always been a band that have challenged themselves to explore new paths, while remaining true to their musical core values. For their 17th studio album "Leviathan," mastermind Christofer Johnsson and his collaborator Thomas Vikström have created something that has been previously unthinkable to the guitarist and the singer. "We have done the only thing that was left of all the different angles to explore", explains Christofer. "We have decided to give the people what they kept asking for. 'Leviathan' is the first album that we have deliberately packed with Therion hit songs." More...

Eleine Prepares For "Dancing In Hell"

Since emerging in the nineties, symphonic metal has gone on to become one of metal's most popular sub-genres, with bands of the ilk becoming household names, releasing classic albums and headlining festivals across the world. While people will immediately think of the legendary names like Therion, Nightwish or Epica, there seems to always be a steady stream of new groups to capture the imagination, including Surma, Scardust and Visions Of Atlantis. Another of symphonic metal's rising stars hails from Landskrona in Sweden and are already making their mark with a pummelling sound, guided by a truly commanding voice, namely; Eleine.

Eleine was formed in 2014 and only a year later released their eponymous debut album, before really catching listener's ears with their sophomore, "Until The End" in 2018. A new EP, "All Shall Burn" followed in 2019 as a stop gap before their next album, which is now only two weeks away in the form of "Dancing In Hell." The songs released so far are going over very well with fans and newcomers alike and to find out more about the album, its background, concepts and more, I caught up with vocalist Madeleine Liljestam & guitarist Rikard Ekberg. You can watch the interview in full below. More...
