Sweden's Hammerfall is set to enter the recording studio in two weeks to record the follow-up to "No Sacrifice, No Victory." Guitarist Oscar Dronjak reveals: "The new material contains a lot of fresh ways to look at the musical ideas, we're trying to preserve the essence of what HammerFall is while at the same time updating the execution and approach. Definitely heavier and less straight forward than the previous albums, yet remaining true to what we believe heavy metal is all about."
The quintet also decided to work with producer James Michael, who has worked with Motley Crue, Scorpions, Meat Loaf, and others. Oscar explains: "Working with James Michael is going to be very, very exciting. The two Mötley Crüe album James has been involved in (songwriter on 'New Tattoo' and songwriter/producer on 'Saints Of Los Angeles') are great, and easily stack up against the classic albums of the 80's. That, and the fact that HammerFall have used the same producer (Charlie Bauerfeind) since 2002 has me very psyched about this collaboration, it will automatically bring a freshness to the proceedings! A lot of what HF was got refined when we started working with Charlie, and I'm sure we'll get a similar kind of reaction here. Sort of like a kick in the ass, to get going in the right direction.” More...

Norwegian black metal act 1349 has posted the following update online after finishing its North American tour with Triptykon. You can read the update below:
"The Legion is back home in a snowy and wintery Norway, gathering strength for our next raid.
"First of all, we want to thank all our North American fans that came to our shows — we hope it was as enjoyable and intense for you as it was for us. Perhaps did we manage to ignite the flame in some of you that saw us for the first time...
"It was a great tour.
"Being on the road with Triptykon is nothing less than an honour, and the two bands truly enjoyed each other's company. We grew to like Yakuza a lot, too! Then, it's very inspiring for us — musically as well as spiritually — to perform 'Demonoir' material live. It's truly challenging, but when everything works; it's like succeeding with a dangerous act of black magic, where we get to open the gates to vast depths of darkness and connect with the immense powers that streams out of there. Getting to share it with you was special to us.
"We saw the U.S. leg of Weltenbrand as the tour that would conclude our touring cycle with 'Demonoir' in the U.S. and Canada. But as the tour is now finished, it feels like there is still work to be done with the album in North America. There were areas we didn't get to cover neither on the 'Weltenbrand' tour nor on the leg we did with Cannibal Corpse in the spring (Southeast, mainly); that's one thing, and there is also the sensation that the task simply isn't finished yet. So who knows — there might be another round! We will keep you posted and let you in on relevant developments.
"We most definitely haven't forgotten about our fans and supporters in Europe. Plans are made as this is written, plans that will result in an extensive 1349 tour around Europe. It has been oh so long since the last time, but we promise to make up for the time you have waited to again experience live Aural Hellfire. News regar

Comments Desultory singer / guitar-player Klas Morberg: "It’s been more than a year now since we entered the studio to record the first Desultory album in over a decade. This album will write a new chapter in the history of the band and it has been with great anticipation and endurance we have waited for the cover art to take form. We wanted the whole package, from music and lyrics to the visual appearance to communicate the same feeling, and as it turned out, this work had to take time. Now, at the very last hours of this long year, we are finally ready to reveal it all to you. We hope you think it was worth the wait, we do."

Heavy Artillery Records has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Volture:
"Heavy Artillery Records is pleased to announce the scheduled release of Shocking Its Prey, the debut release from Richmond, VA’s high-powered heavy metal quintet Volture. The six track debut will be unleashed worldwide on January 25th 2011 on CD and limited edition Mini-LP formats. The tracks 'Volture' and 'Heavy Metal Machine' from the forthcoming Shocking Its Prey are available for preview now via the official Volture Myspace profile.
"With the humblest beginnings the seeds for Volture were first laid in November 2008. Inspired by a mutual interest in obscure NWOBHM and early European heavy metal VOLTURE was born when friends Ryan Waste (of Municipal Waste) and Nick Poulos over a few beers agreed to channel those mutual interests into a fully realized project. With Ryan and Nick, respectively, on bass and guitar they were soon joined by vocalist Brent Hubbard and drummer Barry Cover, who had previously worked with Ryan in 2003 in a band called Immortal Avenger. Also joining the fold was Ryan’s fellow Municipal Waste band mate, Landphil on rhythm guitar.
"Throughout 2009, a demanding tour schedule with their other bands left the members of Volture with minimal time to practice. Landphil left the band and the remaining four focused their attention on writing during this time. In January 2010 the four piece entered a small studio in Ryan’s neighborhood to lay down the tracks for Shocking Its Prey, sans any modern studio trickery solely relying on capturing Volture’s natural ability to unleash raw, unedited heavy metal fury. Sensory Records has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Cynthesis:
"Sensory Records is ecstatic to announce the signing of Cynthesis, and the release of their upcoming debut album DeEvolution. Cynthesis is an entirely new band of its own, which also reunites three of the original members of progressive metal purveyors Zero Hour -- founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold -- for the first time on a recording since the band's heralded 2001 album The Towers of Avarice and 2003's Metamorphosis, both still considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community. After reaping massive critical acclaim from major international metal media, Zero Hour successfully toured Europe and performed at two different ProgPower USA Festivals, the band parted ways with Erik Rosvold, disappointing diehard fans of the band across the globe.
"In late 2007, Jasun began writing material for Cynthesis. As the music developed he could only imagine one vocalist to really connect to the material. 'I've always been a fan of Erik's vocals and I knew his lyric-writing would be a perfect match for the material' explains Jasun. After one phone call Erik was brought into the fold. Rounding out the lineup on drums is longtime friend Sean Flanegan, who not only played on Jasun's 2000 instrumental release, Night's Pulse, but is best known for his amazing work with prog rock heroes, Enchant. During a lazy Sunday I found myself catching up on previously recorded episodes of Bored to Death when much to my delight I discovered a couple Metal Mania episodes on queue. Here’s what I found:
In Kiss’s video for “Rock and Roll all Nite,” I wonder what was so bad that the girl coming down the stairs needed her eyes blacked out like they do on the show Cops. Also, is there someplace we can put all of the eighties brick-sized cell phones for display? I would definitely go to the Pre-2K Cell Phone Hall of Fame (maybe located in Indiana?) to see the phone Gene Simmons has while sitting on his throne in this video as well as the one used by Zack Morris on Saved by the Bell.
