Pit Stories: Mushrooms And Flaming Swords

For the first Pit Story of November and one of the last of the year, we've got a truly epic tale of the best of metal culture: getting stoned out of your mind and hitting up a proper festival.

This week guitarist Nate Jones from Florida stoner / sludge metal outfit Junior Bruce shares a tale of fiery terror from Cromfest 2010. Nate recalls the events like this:

February 2010, with very loose directions and gear loaded up, we embarked on a journey to an isolated area just outside of Cassadaga, FL to play a party called Cromfest. $5 all you can drink, bonfires, and metal celebrating fucking CROM? Seriously I can't make this shit up!

Darkness falling and people starting to show up, it was time to eat some shrooms! Moments later the bonfire was blazing and things were warming up fast. These guys even had the forethought to have shit laying around to throw on to the fire all night long - old sofas and other random junk furniture and flammable garbage. The people at the party were fucking nuts - there was a guy walking around with a python, people with legit sharp ass dangerous as fuck battle axes, fuck - even the guy carving the smoked pig was using a jacked up sword to cut the meat (you know the kind that you'd find at a flea market or outlet mall for "decorative purposes only").

There was another guy that fashioned a mace out of a steel chain and bowling ball, another guy had a giant hammer to smash things with, and someone built a flame thrower out of a propane tank and was torching the pigs head mounted on a steak. This shit was intense! Did I mention they smoked a pig? People were smashing shit, throwing shit on the fire, and getting fucked up. It was Ocala / Volusia county at its finest! Pure testosterone filled redneck destruction - all in the name of CROM!

Invoking The Abstract Posts "The Summit" Video

Earlier this fall, South Carolina-based instrumental tech metal sorcerers Invoking The Abstract unleashed debut full-length "Aural Kaleidoscopes" upon the masses via Unique Leader Records.

Tracked at The Basement Recording Studios with Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Scale The Summit), the confounding record utilizes various approaches to rhythm, phrasing, and playing techniques to convey a sound that transcends genres. Listen in right here.

Today a visual accompaniment to mind-bending track "The Summit" comes online, with the band commenting: "'The Summit' is Invoking The Abstract at its most progressive. It features a broad dynamic pallet constantly shifting meters, and abrasive modulations. Earache Acquires Rights To Nachtmystium Catalog

After getting the boot from Century Media back in 2014 over Blake Judd bilking fans, you will now have the chance to acquire Nachtmystium material again. British independent record label Earache Records has acquired the majority of back-catalogue titles from the American psychedelic black metal band.

Formed by notorious frontman Blake Judd in Illinois in 2000, Nachtmystium stormed onto the scene with a raw, true-to-the-roots black metal sound, releasing debut full-length "Reign of the Malicious" in 2002. Following the band's second studio album (2004's "Demise"), Nachtmystium expanded the style to incorporate more psychedelic elements.

Earache's new deal with Nachtmystium includes the rights to five of the band's studio albums, four EPs, a demos collection, and a remixes and rarities album which was previously only released on YouTube.

Earache's Al Dawson comments: "We've been fans of Blake's music for a long time now and I am excited in the fact that we are now the official home of his extensive catalog of some of the finest American black metal ever."

Nachtmystium frontman and founding member Blake Judd comments: "I am proud to announce a new cooperation in the lengthy release history of Nachtmystium. I have teamed up with the folks at the legendary, UK-based metal label, Earache Records, to reissue the majority of Nachtmystium's back catalog recordings. More...

Luciferian Light Orchestra Releasing "Black" EP

Today, Svart Records sets December 9th as the international release date for Luciferian Light Orchestra's "Black" EP. Luciferian Light Orchestra is a band formed in 2014 by Christofer Johnsson of Therion, performing songs that Johnsson has written over the years but he thought were too retro-sounding for Therion.

Johnsson has always had a big passion for '70s music. Thus, Luciferian Light Orchestra sounds like a '70s version of his more well known band, mainly inspired by occult vibes and themes. The self-titled album was recorded and mixed by Christofer at Adulruna Studio and and mixed by Lennart Östlund (Led Zeppelin, Abba) at Polar.

In the process of making Luciferian Light Orchestra, there was a large group of people involved: two drummers, one bass-player, five guitarists, two keyboardists, three Hammond organists, four lead singers, and five backing singers.

It's not official who contributed on the album and who the members are, but Christofer has revealed that it’s "a mix of old symphonic rock and progressive musicians, some current Therion members, one ex-Therion member, and some artists from other bands, plus some known and unknown people from Dragon Rouge giving a hand with backing vocals."
