The almighty metal mosh pit: sanctuary to some, place of unfortunate pain for others. Every week we seek out fans and bands to share their most memorable mosh pit stories, and this week guitarist David Davidson of Revocation shares the following tale of a drunken stage dive. A bloody clip of the aftermath is also available below.
My mosh pit story took place during the Darkest Hour Legacy Tour. We were playing in Cleveland at a club called Peabody's and the DH dudes bought a shit ton of booze to get the party started early. I was drinking heavily and was talking with Misha from Periphery about the joys of stage diving. He had mentioned that he had never done it before and in my drunken state I convinced him there was nothing to worry about so I decided to demonstrate for him. I jumped of the stage backwards and at the same time head first. Unfortunately I over shot my jump and landed directly on the back of my head, busting my dome open. After a quick trip to the emergency room I returned to the show with 8 staples in the back of my head. Good times!
In other Revocation news, the band recently shot a new music video for the track "No Funeral."
Check back in next Tuesday as we share more pit stories from band members and metal fans.
U.K. act Conquest of Steel held a release party at Conquest Towers for the new 7" single "Victorious in Defeat." The band has now posted footage from the show online, which features the song "Man of the Dragon" and can be viewed below.
Outlaw country modernist Bob Wayne and heavy metal outfit 3 Inches of Blood have released a split 7". The split, which is available today, includes Bob Wayne's "Everything's Legal In Alabama" and a live version of "Call Of The Hammer" from 3 Inches of Blood featuring Ben Falgoust from Goatwhore.
3 Inches of Blood vocalist Cam Pipes commented on the release, "When asked if we wanted to do a split 7" with Bob Wayne it was a pretty easy decision. We've never done a split 7" before and Bob's already a friend of ours, a good ol' Pacific Northwestern boy. We've also never released a live track before. We had recorded some shows in Vancouver last year, so we picked Call of the Hammer since Ben Falgoust from Goatwhore does guest vocals on it. All around this is a special release for us."
Bob Wayne adds, "I've always had fun hangin with those guys [3 Inches Of Blood]. We've played a few shows together and I always go and see them live if they're within 100 miles of me! I'm a big fan so this is a huge honor."
U.K. based operatic metal act Aonia has issued the following announcement about splitting with the band's bassist:
"In sad news, bassist Matt has decided to leave Aonia due to the financial concerns that come with being a PhD student. He will play the shows the band has committed to and will continue to fill in as a session musician for the foreseeable future until a replacement can be found. We are grateful to Matt and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours!
"In the meantime, we are looking for a bassist who is flexible, committed, who is able and willing to pay a fair share of band expenses, and who has his/her own equipment (and preferably transport). If you're interested, please contact email@example.com and we hope to hear from you soon!"
Further details on Aonia are available by navigating your browser over to the band's official Facebook profile.
"The song was recorded in Clockwork Studios in Tartu by our long time friend Raido Traumann. Mixing and mastering was done in Sweden by Dino Medanhodzic who helped us in the last time when we did our EP How About Discount."

The week leading up to Metalheim festival was taut with anticipation, and excitement. The festival is hosted by the wonderful people at Metalheim Productions and takes place in two cities, Helsinki and Oulu. Each day featured five bands, and they travel between the two cities so we all partake in the epicness of the tour.
This year’s agenda boasted a fantastic lineup both days. Naturally, the week dragged on and on; and with a brand new Canon eos just waiting to be used, it felt like eternity until Friday. I finally arrived at Nosturi, and was lucky indeed to be able to interview Ville Sorvali of Moonsorrow, and later met with Kari, Gunnar and Terji of Tyr. Read the interview with Ville Sorvali here, others coming soon! More...

California death horde Gravehill has issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of their planned performance at this year's Goregrowler's Ball:
"We were saddened and pissed off, to say the least, to hear from Goregrowler's Entertainment about their decision to not bring us out for the Fest in San Antonio on the days of November 18th-20th. It is unfortunate and we just wanted to let all of our friends and fans down there that we had no control over this situation and are disappointed beyond belief.
"I will not get into every aspect of what went down and what was said and agreed upon. I also won't sit here and bash anyone at the Goregrowlers camp and get into any of that type of crap. What I will do is be honest and give you a 'long story short'. Gravehill was one of the first bands asked to be a part of this years fest. I was also instrumental in helping them book a few of the bands that are playing. More...

"Daniel also has helped technically OF THE ARCHAENGEL on the road for some time, a fact that made him close to other band members. Besides the friendship, he was musically far superior from what we hear of other candidates in the listenings we did, there is no doubt that it was the right guy to follow us going forward. Welcome to the Clan Daniel."

Danish black metal act Blodarv has issued the following recap of the band's activity this year and announcement about upcoming plans:
"We're coming to the end of yet another eventful year for BLODARV, and once again, in what we hope will become a tradition, I will take a look back at the achievements, and, it has to be said, mishaps that we went through, and a look forward to the year to come. January kicked off 2011 in what looked like a great way. YNLEBORGAZ was fit and at full power after an enforced rest following knee surgery and once again BLODARV was ready to hit the stage. Dedicated Booking had already booked us two shows, the first of which took place in Copenhagen at Beta and was a more than successful return to live performing for the band.
"With our second show set to take place at PH-Cafeen in May, disaster unfortunately struck again, and the show had to be cancelled when my jaw, which was already recovering from earlier surgery, was badly broken following an accident. With some bone needing to be removed from my jaw, recovery from this was obviously not going to happen overnight. In fact, it took half a year, during which time not only was I unable to sing, but I was also not able to eat anything more exciting than soup.
"The time was not entirely wasted however, and despite not being able to rehearse I was still able to start mixing the drum tracks for the next BLODARV full-length album. I had actually already composed most of the album back in 2010, and all the drums tracks had already been recorded by YNLEBORGAZ in December of that year when he visited my home and studio (HammerArt & Studio's) on the island of Bornholm. A few months later we began recording the guitars, and the next step will be to record the bass, for which HUUL will come to the island over several weekends to lay down the bass lines. And then, of course, it will be time to do the vocals. More...

No giant spiders and nasty worms battling heroic humans in a primordial pit of death this time around, just a clandestine home invasion of the slitherin' kind. "What’s up everyone….Welcome back to the War. Well then, have we had a monumental year of decisions and change. First things first, we truly apologize for the lack of updates to the site. After the explanation, we hope you’ll understand why. To ensure all questions are answered clearly, we will lay it out in Bullet points.
"Has the band broken up? No, but we are currently not performing either. The band spent some serious time playing gigs and learned one thing. Without new product or a new audience, you will lose money. This may seem like an obvious statement, but when your always being offered gigs, its very hard to say no when you enjoy playing live so much. So we have shut down to embark on a different kind of journey, in recording.
"Is there anything major to know about new material? We intend on having guests on alot of the new material. Musicians and poets whom will be revealed as the songs get released. More...

It caused the worst power outages in history for the state of Connecticut. After 24 hours with no power, heat, or running water…we are all grateful to be safe and warm! I was supposed to be lining up the album release and tie up all the loose ends, but now things got shifted back YET AGAIN. So for now, we are going to release the single 'Haunting Your Daughter' tomorrow. With the full album following very soon after. Hang tight, and check back with autumnseyes.com for more updates!"
