Septekh Issues Band Update

Swedish metallers Septekh have issued the following update about working on new material:

"After a somewhat counterproductive weekend, involving fantastic metal, mad Italians and (regretfully) a lot more, things are now lining up for a very fruitful month.

"We have a new gig booked for 9th of January. More shows next year will follow. Merchandise is on the way. T-shirts first then maybe patches and something even cooler later on! A photo shoot is planned for next week. You will most certainly be able to find the above mentioned on our website that is in the making! Hopefully it will be up in a month or so.

"Apart from all this multimedia extravaganza we are also still playing music. And a couple of new songs are in the oven. Hot stuff! So in other words we are working harder than ever! When we´re not all disastrously fired up on Jesus juice and checking out cool bands that is."

Weedeater Issues Tour Recap

Weedeater has issued the following recap of their recent tour dates:

"Hey all yous,

"It took a couple weeks to recover but Weedeater actually made it back in one piece. 70 days is a long time to tour, and we didn't have one day off for the last 39 days of that. Plus Keko was playing with a severed tendon in his pinkie. He is a fucking madman. Despite those obstacles and many others that shouldn't be mentioned, we had an amazing time. Everyone in the Down and Melvins camps were great to us and it felt like we were leaving family at the last show together. Amazing musicians, amazing people, all of you, we THANK YOU for an outstanding tour!! That was some legendary shit for sure. We'd also like to thank all of the fine folks at the shows who supported us via merch, lodging, and through any other means necessary. You are all saints and we couldn't have made it without you, so again, THANKS for everything!!

"In other news, during January Weedeater will once again be entering Steve Albini's wonderland that is Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago IL. We'll probably do a few shows on the way out and back, so stay tuned for those when they confirm. In March we'll be doing another US headlining tour; we'll have dates and such soon. We'll also be coming over to Europe next summer and hopefully the new album, 'Jason The Dragon', will be released by then, though we don't have a solid date for that yet. Lastly, we've just released the 1st ever Weedeater hood. It's simple, elegant, and it's got a fucking zipper."

East Of The Wall Signs To Translation Loss Records

Translation Loss Records has announced the addition of New Jersey’s EAST OF THE WALL to their roster. Born from the dissolution of The Postman Syndrome and Day Without Dawn, EAST OF THE WALL has been hard at work crafting their complex and varied sound, drawing inspiration from a wide range of emotions and ideas.

Translation Loss Records will be releasing a three way split release from East Of The Wall, Rosetta and Year Of No Light in late 2009. The material is a precursor to what will be their Translation Loss debut. EAST OF THE WALL has released records on the indie label Forgotten Empire Records.

Drew Juergens from Translation Loss comments on the signing and co-release: “We are very excited to have EAST OF THE WALL on the label and help them release their next opus. They are an amazing force to behold live and if their material on the three way split we are releasing at the end of this year is any indication of the level of musicianship we will all bear witness to for their next full length, I can only imagine what kind of greatness is on the horizon for the band.”

Brett Bamberger from EAST OF THE WALL comments: “We are so fortunate to be on a roster full of artists who we respect and appreciate so much, not to mention having this excellent opportunity to do business with such a hard working operation of great people. On the road ahead we will be focusing extensively on writing, recording, touring, touring, touring. We have about half of our next full length written, which thus far in content is a bit more technically involved than our last LP. We want to extend our thanks to all the people who have helped us along the way, most especially Brandon Helms, Dave Grossman, and Dave Witte. Looking so forward to our time ahead with TL. Cheers - East of The Wall”

You can check out some of the band's music on their MySpace player.

Nothnegal Recording New Material

Nothnegal has issued the following update about recording a new album:

"As you may have noticed, recently there have been almost no updates or any news by Nothnegal. We have been busy with writing new material for our debut album which would be recorded soon for a release in 2010. This would be our first recording with the new lineup and instead of continuing from the point we left with Antidote of Realism, we have decided to focus on creating the actual Nothnegal sound this time which. we will be revealing more details of the album. There would be no live dates before the album.

"Apart from that, we are in the process of updating the Nothnegal Myspace layout and we have recently re-recorded 'Web of Deceit' from our previous EP with Kevin drumming and Marco doing the keyboards again, right now its being mixed by producer Mark Lewis. This was done for the fans of the EP and to test the sound of the new lineup. We will also be releasing the trailer for the long delayed video Web of Deceit on our YouTube channel and Myspace."

Survivors Zero Parts Ways With Drummer

Finnish death metal act Survivors Zero has issued the following announcement about parting ways with their drummer:

"Some weeks ago our drummer Reima Kellokoski informed us that he was not able to continue in our band, as he felt he could not in the future give the 100% commitment needed. As 2010 will be an anniversary year for Impaled Nazarene, his allegiances of course lie with his band of 15 years. As both bands will tour actively and will not settle for compromises, both SZ and Reima felt this was the best decision and this departure is not in hostile terms in any way. We will of course miss playing and partying together, but life moves ahead. We thank Reima for the great times in the studio and on the road. You may leave the band but never the brotherhood. Best of luck in the future, brother.

"SZ continues to keep it in the family, as we did not have to look for a drummer very far. Our new skin pounder is none other than our good friend Seppo Tarvainen (Tukkanuotta, ex-Scourger), who took on the challenge and took the drum seat (and stage) by storm. After he stood in for Reima on the two last gigs of the Cobra Tour (with practically no band rehearsals and a broken finger), letting him go was not an option. Perfect. Fucking. Mayhem. Welcome, ya crazy fucker!

"This change in the line up will in no way change our touring schedule, all previously announced gigs will be done and more will be announced soon. See you down the road!"

Chthonic Comments On Passport Issues

Vocalist Freddy Lim of Taiwanese black metal band Chthonic has issued the following statement about experiencing passport problems while attempting to enter the UK:

‘Sir, where is your VISA?’ asked the puzzled ticket clerk at JFK. With very little patience left, I told her: ‘I am a Taiwanese, NOT a Chinese and Taiwanese don't need visa to travel to UK’ She was still confused at my ‘Republic of China’ passport. ‘This is our government's fault. Sorry to see you getting confused by this but I don't like this either. Anyway, my country is Taiwan, NOT China and I should be able to travel to UK without a VISA.’ (#1)

"This is actually not uncommon to happen. I am getting used to it even though I am still pissed off, especially after a long day in New York. Today in NYC we were stuck in traffic for 4+ hours and checked by cops twice. Unfortunately I don't have the international driver's license with me and I look like a long-hair freak driving a big trailer. We felt like I was gonna be busted by ‘John McClane’ in NYC and miss the London concert. Fortunately ‘John McClane’ let me go and we made it to the airport in time. After the ticket clerk realized we are Taiwanese not Chinese, we finally boarded the flight to the UK. More...

Sunday Old School: Venom

The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal produced dozens of new acts, some of which have gone down in history as legends of heavy metal and hard rock music, but of all these bands, none were as extreme, as over the top, as exciting, as Venom. The band was formed in the early '80s in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England and released their first album, "Welcome To Hell," in 1981. They gained an underground, cult following in the United Kingdom as well as in the European and North American metal underground, yet they didn't perform a proper live concert until after the release of their second album in 1982. "Black Metal" would go down in history as one of the most influential metal records of all time, and the band's first show took place at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon.

During interviews, Venom would invent numerous tags to describe themselves in order to set them apart from other heavy metal bands of the time. Almost all of these tags went on to become actual sub-genres such as "black metal," "thrash metal," "death metal" and "doom metal." Venom claim they wanted to stand out from the other bands of the time because they felt metal wasn't being represented as well as it should have been. The final straw for Venom came, surprisingly, after Michael Jackson entered the British heavy metal charts with the song, "Beat It" because it featured a guitar solo from Eddie Van Halen.

Over the years, the band released several more albums and experienced several lineup changes, which some might say led to the somewhat unfair reactions to strong albums that didn't feature certain original members. Although they might seem ridiculous when looked upon, Venom is one of the most influential metal bands ever to enter a recording studio and is without question responsible for the likes of thrash, death and of course, black metal. They helped American bands like Slayer, Exodus and even Metallica find fans in Europe by taking them out on tour and their original sound can be heard on many albums from other thrash metal bands such as Metallica's "Kill 'em All" or Slayer's "Show No Mercy." Venom is still going today, with singer/bass player Conrad "Cronos" Lant remaining as the band's sole original member and they are currently working on a brand new album. For Venom, it wasn't quality or quantity that counted, it was standing out from their peers and creating something new, and no-one can deny they did just that.
