Vodun Ready To Ascend To New Levels

With the rejection many of us have to the more mainstream rock and metal bands today, it's always refreshing to find a band which keeps the original flame alive, quite literally in this case. As I mentioned in my report on their show in Bristol, London based power trio Vodun are a band quite unlike any other, combining Sabbath like grooves with African rhythms and mysticism. The three piece has just released their sophomore album, "Ascend," and before their show at The Crofters Rights, I was able to sit down and talk with all three members of the band about influences, "Ascend" and more.

Diamond Oz: Straight into then, this tour is to promote your new album, "Ascend," which has only just been released, is that right?

Oya: The seventh of September, so about three weeks now.

Diamond Oz: Lovely, have you had much in the way of reviews and feedback so far?

Marassa: Quite a few reviews trickling in so far. Everything seems to be positive, everybody says it's a step up, the textures are thicker than "Possession"...

Oya: Yeah, good reviews, positive. People seem to like the dynamics of the songs and the war cry aspect of it in what we're talking about.

Diamond Oz: I'm not surprised they're liking it, I've had "Spirits Past" in my head all day!

Oya: Well we're playing it tonight so you'll soon be sick of it!

Haken Posts New Video Online

British progressive metal outfit Haken has posted a new music video online for the song, "Puzzle Box." You can check it out below. The song somes from the band's upcoming fifth album, "Vector," which is scheduled to be released on October 26th. Speaking about the video, the band stated:

“‘Puzzle Box’ was born from some of the jam sessions we had early on in the writing process. The music has a raw and slightly psychotic nature to it that is brilliantly complimented in Crystal Spotlight’s video. To achieve favourable consequences we suggest taking this dose of Vector at regular intervals throughout the day.” More...

Jungle Rot Announces European Tour Dates

Ferocious American metal pioneers Jungle Rot have announced headlining dates for their return to European shores this spring.

“Finally, the wheels are in motion and we return to Europe for the first time in five years with the 2019 Send Forth Oblivion Tour Part 1!” exudes Jungle Rot warlord Dave Matrise. “We are ready to get back and smash audiences with our style of old school metal to all the head-banging lunatics of Europe. We will also be returning to Europe in the summer for the Send Forth Oblivion Tour Part 2 with confirmed appearances at the Brutal Assault and Stonehenge Festivals, with more dates coming soon. The wait is over, the time is near and 2019 is going to be a hell of a year!”

Vodun Casts A Spell Over Bristol

Vodun could well be one of the most exciting and original rising bands in the United Kingdom today. Combining classic heavy and doom metal with African and Latin beats, presented with striking imagery and a bombastic live show. With their new album, "Ascend" now available and with a European tour underway, now is the perfect time to be introduced to this one of a kind trio.

The show took place at The Crofters Rights in Bristol, a smart little venue in the increasingly trendy area of Stokes Croft, a far cry from the last time I visited when it was known simply as The Croft, a tiny, cramped but welcoming club which hosted such hardcore legends as Sick Of It All and Madball. Vodun were joined tonight by local outfit Age Decay, who themselves have a lot to offer. The band can very much best be described as doom metal, with echoes of early Cathedral to be found, but there's a strong aura of progressive rock too, a little like a darker North Atlantic Oscillation. Given the usual long run times of both doom and prog songs, it's hard to say how long they were on for, which is actually a compliment in that I was entertained throughout enough not to check my watch once. Fans of slower, gloomy rock and metal would do well to check out this group from the English south west. More...

Chthonic Posts "A Crimson Sky's Command" Video

Taiwanese metal outfit Chthonic will release their new album, "Battlefields Of Asura," on October 10th, the first new music since 2013's full-length album, "Butik." A music video for the album track "A Crimson Sky's Command" can be found below.

According to Chthonic, the new album depicts the adventure of deities in Taiwan through eleven songs carrying messages about resistance, freedom and fraternity. The journey is full of hostility, adversary, impregnable fortresses and desires but also inspires infinite courage to search for eternal wisdom. Anyone deeply touched by this album will eventually realize that it is the origin of all thrilling epic stories portrayed in the past albums. This album sounds like gods versus devils and fights among evil spirits on the surface; however, everyone can feel the empathy of fury, grief and even strength of resurgence from the lyrics. More...

Decapitated UK/IRE 2019 Tour Dates Announced

Decapitated are pleased to announce a string of UK/IRE dates as part of their 'Killing The European Cult 2019' tour. Accompanying the four piece on the road in February will be death meta outfits Dyscarnate from Horsham, UK and Baest from Aarhus, Denmark.

Decapitated guitarist Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka said:
"Last weekend we played Mammothfest UK to a fully packed venue, which makes that night very special. The show was amazing and it was a truly magical night. After the show I was really grateful for all of you who showed up, talked with us and showed us your support. Maybe you don't know but IT MEANS A LOT!!

Moreover I am more than happy to announce our return to the UK. I am honoured to inform the metal community in UK/IRE that Decapitated will be heading back in February 2019!

Since our debut album "Winds of Creation", the UK has always been a second home to me. We have never felt like strangers and I simply love to play here, and every time I jump on stage I know I'm in the right place. I have so many memories from old times and many friends who support us and are ready to help. Maybe it sounds a little bit sentimental but after the hard times we had last year, I appreciate everything 1000 times more than ever.

That's why I am super excited to also have Dyscarnate and Baest on our UK/IRE tour. Dyscarnate is a well-known band especially in UK and they just crush live! Baest has THIS energy you want to see in every band during a show. Both bands are amazing, have great music to share with people and I am sure they will dominate the metal scene faster than we think.

This line-up will destroy everything on it's way. Join us in February for "Killing The European Cult!"
