Quicksand Dream Announces New Album

Cruz Del Sur Music is proud to announce the forthcoming release of "Beheading Tyrants" from Swedish group Quicksand Dream on November 11th. "Beheading Tyrants," the band’s first release since 2000’s "Aelin: A Story About Destiny," is best described as epic metal with heaping portions of doom. Druz Del Sur comments:

"Don't expect Manowar-syle epic metal here. Rather, imagine a crossover between Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and mid-80s Manilla Road. That epic vibe resides not only in terms of heaviness, but also in terms of an atmosphere rife with introspective elements and a sense of impending tragedy. The bass lines assume the role of leader of the dance, perfectly matched by vocalist Göran Jacobson's sympathetic interpretation and by a clever use of guitars, with some great solos and diligent rhythmic work.

"It's no surprise that it took Quicksand Dream 16 years to provide the follow up of 'Aelin.' In some ways 'Beheading Tyrants' is an album from the past; one without the trappings of a band giving in to the urge to follow a specific style’s features, but rather to offer something personal to a dedicated audience." Alex Holzwarth Splits With Rhapsody Of Fire

Drummer Alex Holwarth (Serious Black) has followed vocalist Fabio Lione in his departure from Rhapsody Of Fire by announcing his own split with the Italian power metal pioneers.

In an announcement on Facebook, Holzwarth posted:

"My dear Rhapsody Of Fire fans! Some of you may know, I wanted to do something different since a long time and I feel the time is right to focus my energies on other projects. This means I won't be able to play with Rhapsody Of Fire anymore.

"My bandmates have known about this and they are supportive. I know it comes very soon after Fabio’s leaving but I feel that's the best moment to do it as the band is already working on the new line-up.

"I wish the Band everything positive and best luck for their new chapter with a new singer and new drummer. There will be a fresh line-up for an exciting future. I really trust ROF for finding the most suitable musicians. More...

Sunday Old School: Asphyx

The Netherlands has always had a soft spot for hard music. The country has played host to many metal festivals over the years, most notably the Eindhoven Metal Meeting, where many of metal's most beloved names have performed and several have recorded live albums. Their contribution to the music itself has also been quite noteworthy, especially in the death metal field. Today we'll be looking at another of their more notable bands, Overijssel's, Asphyx.

Asphyx was formed in 1987 by drummer Bob Bagchus and guitarist Tonny Brookhuis, who soon recruited a second guitar player named Eric Daniels and singing bassist Chuck Colli. This lineup lasted for two years but only recorded two demos, "Carnage Remains" and "Enter the Domain" before replacing Colli with Theo Loomans for the "Crush the Cenotaph" demo, which itself was the last recording before Brookhuis quit the group. Left as a trio, they recorded an album entitled, "Embrace the Death," though due to label problems, it remains unreleased to this day. More...
