As American doom metal unit Daylight Dies releases forth studio full-length "A Frail Becoming" (reviewed here) via Candlelight Records this week, the band’s brand new video for the album is today unveiled via Metal Injection.
Constructed for the album’s fourth track, "Dreaming of Breathing," the video was directed by Ramon Boutviset. Check out the video in the player below or over at Metal Injection here.
Stated drummer Jesse Haff on the course taken in bringing the video to fruition: “We worked with director Ramon Boutviseth back in 2006 when he filmed the ‘Lies the Bind’ video. We were blown away by what he delivered, and by his talents and ambition. We knew without hesitation he was who we wanted to work with for the ‘Dreaming of Breathing’ video. It was important the video not only visually matched the aesthetic of the album art, but also communicate at least metaphorically some of the meaning behind the song. He filmed the narrative bits in Malibu, California, and the band shots in a small studio with no air conditioning during a sweltering hot evening in North Carolina. We think the end result is gorgeous and fitting, and are just so pleased to have worked with Ramon and his team once again.” More...

9… something… am. Or maybe it’s 10, or maybe I’m in Hell. All I know is that the sun has risen, transforming my tent into a “Bridge On The River Kwai” sweatbox and my sleeping bag into a dehydration cocoon. I’m marinating.
Cooking aromas. Eggs frying, a Mediterranean whiff of olive oil, the universal scent of black coffee. Subdued, slow-motion, hung-over camp chatter. An unfamiliar voice: “Mind if I drop in for a meet-and-greet?” Male, low and steady-pitched, Eastern European. Might as well get my ass moving and be social. Also, I’m starving again.
I peel away my constraints, fumbling, slippery, dazed. I unzip the door and gasp for breath. The open air feels cucumber-cool by comparison and prickles my skin.
With nature doing all the work around here, who needs an alarm clock? More...

Extreme metal formation System Divide (featuring members of Fear Factory and Aborted) recently recorded a new single entitled "Ephemera" to be released online right before the band hits North America for a tour with Epica, Alestorm, and Insomnium.
Head over to Noisecreep.com here to listen to the new single "Ephemera." The single was mixed by producer Pete Rutcho (The Ghost Inside, Revocation, Bury Your Dead) and will be released online as a free streaming track to serve as teaser for the band's upcoming second full-length album due out on Metal Blade Records in 2013.
Comments vocalist Sven De Caluwe: "We are extremely excited to get this out, having just completed the mix of the tune, it has been amazing to see Pete transform this into the mastodon it turned out to be. This is without a doubt the most epic and challenging material the band has EVER worked on just the tip of the iceberg in regards to what we have in store for the second album. I hope people will be as excited about it as we are, it has been a lot of hard work and we cannot wait to play the song live on our upcoming North American tour with Epica! See you all out there to crush some skulls in the name of metaaaal!" More...
Anubis Gate has issued the following statement about guitarist Jesper parting ways with the band:
"Jesper's decision to leave the band to pursue other musical interests has been some time in the making, actually Jesper announced his leaving to the band 3 months ago, leaving us with good time to the difficult task of finding the right replacement.
"We feel it's important for everybody to know that Jesper's exit has nothing to do with personal differences, in fact we are still the best of friends. Jesper simply found that now was the right time to try something new. We are of course sad that he is leaving but respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best.
"We are happy to announce Michael Bodin as Jesper's replacement. We know Michael from his works with Third Eye and nineties progmetal band Northern Empire. He is a fantastic player who can contribute with very interesting material, in fact he is already writing great new stuff for the new album which we expect out late 2013. We are looking very much forward to presenting the new lineup for you both on stage and on record."
Anubis Gate released a self-titled full-length album (reviewed here) last year, and the band's lineup now is:
Henrik Fevre - vocals, bass
Kim Olesen - guitars, keyboards
Michael Bodin - guitars
Morten Srensen - drums

"Machine Head's studio albums rule. We all know this. But honestly, you've got to experience this band's music in the live setting. "So, the good news is that starting on November 13th and for the first time since 2003's Hellalive, you'll be able to experience the band's crushing live show in your home, on your iPhone, wherever. 'Machine Fucking Head Live,' a DOUBLE live album, features some of the best moments from the band's recent world tour." More...
Downfall of Gaia has launched a stream of new album "Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes" in its entirety through CvltNation.com here. In addition to the stream, vocalist/guitarist Dominik Goncalves dos Reis has written descriptions for each song on the album, which should be of interest to fans as the entire album is sung in German.
"Suffocating In The Swarm of Cranes" is a concept album about an individual's struggles with living in modern, oft over-stimulated society. Comments Downfall of Gaia:
"The concept album 'Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes' is telling a story about a person who falls victim to his thoughts and becomes consumed by the pressures of the outside world. Suffering from insomnia, the day by day routine and the security that things are completely out of control nowadays, all of this puts so much pressure on him that he is slowly losing his mind. It's a huge story about a person and the sickness, his state of mind and how his psychological conscience develops. More...
Finnish d-beat derelicts Tinner are pleased to announce their official union with Pulverised Records. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Despite numerous European festival appearances throughout the years, Tinner has remained true to the DIY tradition of old-school crust punk and, through a host of various full-lengths, CDRs, 7”s and compilation appearances, have created a name for themselves within the European crust community. The band’s upcoming new 16-track long player -- Soundtracket Till Din Vräkning (The Soundtrack To Your Eviction) -- promises to be harder, faster and gnarlier than ever before!"
Tinner drum commando Subben comments: "Tinner is extremely happy to have inked a deal with Pulverised Records for the release of Soundtracket Till Din Vräkning. It will be a pleasure to bring our unpure Scandinavian crustcore to the Pulverised family. Pulverised feels like the perfect hideout for TINNER on our quest to piss off people all around through total d-beat destruction. 16 songs were recorded in less than 10 hours in our rehearsal room. 13 of these songs we had never played or rehearsed before. That's how we wanted it: Drunken, dirty, raw kängpunk straight from rock ‘n’ roll Hell."
Adds Pulverised A&R Manager Calvin Chiang: "For the first time in Pulverised history, we are very pleased to finally have a Finnish band on our roster! There was never a Finnish band to come our way that we could truly say, ‘Let's sign them!, until recently, when Tinner came along. Everything about Tinner seemed to fall in place; from the musical direction down to that awesome-looking band logo! We sealed the deal almost instantly and hope Tinner will be able to move on to a worldwide level with their already industrious touring activities and ever-growing fan base." More...

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. With the ProgPower USA festival still fresh in my mind, this week I will take on the festival's “power” metal side.
Most people think that the majority of what you see and hear at ProgPower USA is just the bands on stage. Of course, this is true, but there are also many other avenues at the festival in which the metal connoisseur can explore and discover new bands. For one, the merchandise area at "Vinyl" is just about the greatest record store you can ever find in the world (see my first reaction to that in my op/ed piece “The ProgPower USA Experience From The Eyes Of A Newbie” over at this location). However, there are times where this is almost too much to take in, so while you are at the festival its best to make time for many trips to the merch area.
Despite the onslaught of material at the merch area, the first place any attendee should check is the free promotional CD that the festival itself gives out each year (see full track listing at this location). For 2012, the giveaway was expanded to three CD’s and all are chock full of power and progressive acts from all over the world. Now I pride myself on knowing thousands of metal bands, but I was shocked at how many I hadn’t heard of on this triple CD. The bands showcased here all appear on the promotional CD, though did not perform at the festival: Seven Kingdoms (USA), Siren’s Cry (Austria) and Draekon (USA). More...

Swedish act Morker has issued the following announcement about entering the recording studio:
"Hi there. Long time since the last update, far too long unfortunately... We apologize for that! We know that many of you are wondering what the hell is going on.
"Well, nothing has really happened since the last update in March, because of some personal issues. But now we are back on track again with full force. As mentioned in the last update, 3 acoustic songs has been recorded earlier this year, and now there is only keyboard and piano left to record for those songs.
"Tomorrow is the day that we all have been waiting for, we will finally enter Aurora Studios again to finish the 3 songs.
"We have also set a date for the drum recordings, which will be 10-11th of November. As soon as the drums are ready, we will start with guitars and bass. Our plan is that we will have everything recorded, except for the vocals, by the end of 2012.
"The yet untitled album will contain a total 10 songs. This is all the information we can give you right now, since we don't have any song titles or anything else ready. When the tracklist, cover art etc. is done, it will be posted here!
"That's all for now. Next update won't take 6 months, that's a promise!"

Looking back at the ProgPower USA experience, most attendees would argue that Austrian symphonic metal act Serenity stole the entire show. With the excitement surrounding the band’s first U.S. performance palpable before the set, what transpired thrilled long time fans of the band and made a whole string of new ones (See Metal Underground.com’s review coverage of Day One and Day Two).
